You don't see Germans getting up in arms all the time about WW2 games.
That's different. The Nazi's actually tried as hard as they could to be as evil as possible, so they are the perfect enemy while the British are always being wrongly portrayed as cartoonishly evil to appeal to American buyers.
I find the whole pro USA thing a bit annoying but no big deal since they said we get to play both sides.

That's personally what I love about the Assassin's Creed series. Templar Knights are most often glorified and killing them in the first game was a risque move. Playing a Muslim character was another gutsy move and there wasn't nearly as much negativity or rejection of the game as I thought there would be, restoring faith in the gaming community in my eyes anyway.
Fast forward to the third installment and now it's a big deal because Redcoats are the targets. Despite Ubi saying otherwise, I have a feeling Conner will be killing mostly redcoats and very few Colonists/Patriots. I'll have to wait and see. Despite this being my most anticipated game (love the frontier setting and love killing the often-stuffy portrayed redcoats, I do wonder if I would enjoy the game as much if I were killing patriots and not Royal soldiers.

But seriously, does it even really matter? They're soulless digital husks, not real people. I don't care what they look like. I've killed zombies, nazis, russians, muslims, christians, random civilians, that guy who gets to the cloud district very often, aliens, french, various anthropamorphic enemies, and that does not include my many many team kills.
