JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN'T COMPLETELY READ THE TITLE. THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF SPOILERS PLEASE LEAVE NOW.
Well here goes. This as we know is Desmond's last game, but not the last game of AC Franchise. So for the major spoiler, Desmond dies. How? is probably the question you're asking, well I can't give you that answer, because I simply do not know how. I'm just doing the best I can with what has been given (this is his last game). Anyway this won't be Connor's last game, simply due to how each historic character has had multiple games and everyone wants to make money. SO with that said the next games will focus on a new descendant, quite possibly two (son and/or daughter, what with the whole female assassin thing going on lately). Desmond has been dead already for the entirety of the series. We are actually playing as someone watching Desmond's memories (which is why we play as all of the assassin's we've played as). whatever happens in 2012 is not of any importance and the real threat is years later. We aren't going to get a game where we play in present day (2012), but we'll get a game where we play in the future. Whomever we've been playing as the whole time is viewing Desmond's memories to get his training in order to train themselves through the bleeding effect. Now the interesting part is, are we actually playing as a Templar or an assassin.
This is my theory about where the series is going. So its obviously not real, but would be totally awesome if it became real, but at the same time maybe not.

Except for the sentence "Now the interesting part is, are we actually playing as a Templar or an assassin", everything you've said is already a well-known theory. In fact, its probably one of the most (if not the most) popular theories out there for AC...

I thought they already started that after this one they will be done with the whole modern setting? Only historic.

They never said that. They only said that this one will end Desmond's story.

I didn't know that this was a well-known theory. I posted this back when AC:B was about to come out and people were like this is stupid and they would never do this, though some people thought it was possible (actually from what I remember almost everyone hated it).

Ya, there actually a lot of people that believe in this theory. I don't want to be rude (in fact, I'm a very nice person) but you didn't come up with this theory. However, you brought up a point that I've never heard of before, and that is you questioned if an Assassin or Templar is Desmond's descendant...

Same here, I once posted it around AC2 and everyone ignored it. However once ACB came out I started going againts the theory as Desmond cant die when you play as him (he would desynch if he could) and has no animus menu when you press pause.

I've always thought this (I know I prob didn't come up with it, there's like 6 billion people in the world, I mean who knows right?). I've been leading towards that the descendant (If my theory is correct) is a templar or controlled by the templars at least, because we never ever see this descendant and they are trying to extract info from them, by forcing to be in the animus without letting them out. OR Abstergo (Templars) found a way to use anyone's DNA, but I feel that they'll continue with the Desmond bloodline and reveal he is in fact an ancestor whose memories are being viewed in order to become a top assassin in the shortest amount of time. Also Demonreacher brings up a great point about playing as Desmond, which better supports the descendant (if there is) being controlled by templars and forced into the animus. Remember now this is in the future a but, so the animus is gonna be much more upgraded than it is now.
