I'm trying to think of what would be good since many of the skills I use have to be unlocked. For now solar tree can help in getting cash to buy stuff, are you more of an attacker or a defender?
Solar tree is not worth it imo. My playstyle depends on my team and character. If im playing with Yuri i will stick more to our turrets and thin out the enemy bots as soon they pass the enemy turret, killing other players only if the chance presents itself, or when im being pursued. As Lonestar i only think in the turrets.
Do you use piggy bank instead?
Yeah piggy bank not only is free it also gives you 125 solar right there. Plus almost everyone uses it (Or they should) so if you dont use it you will be at a disavantage, albeit small, at the first minutes. Sometimes its those first minutes that decide the fate of a match.
Oh, I've never had that problem with solar tree, I just take care of drones to get my extra cash early game, sometimes I'll actually kill an enemy stupid enough to try to rush the turret without backup.

We must all remember:
All experts were once beginners.
I'm still learning with each battle and the depth of the game doesn't really become apparent until after a few hours.

That's why they included practice mode to let you try out different builds. I think people take that for granted.

Yeah, but all the same, I wish I could stop getting crappy Lonestars who STILL think they're in Practice mode...

Speaking of crappy Lonestars, I played with one of the worst ones last night. I'm Leon, a buddy is Voltar, and we join a game with this Lonestar. The other team has a Voltar amassing droids for a mob push on the turret. A Clunk was involved too.
So what does our brilliant Lonestar do? INVEST IN THE GOD D*** BULL!! Did not buy a single stick of dynamite, which would have thinned that droid army out real fast. No, he bought and upgraded his bull (with no techno viking helmet), pushed the Droids back to Voltar to be healed, while more droids are being produced on their side.
My buddy bought knockback for his healing wave (it's the best and only thing he could do) and I came up from behind to take potshots, but either the bull would push everyone away or Clunk would start a self destruct.
Frustrating.

Oh, so I just played with the world's crappiest Clunk tonight.
This brain donor would just run at enemies, self destruct, then run around like a chicken with its head cut off until:
A) An enemy just put him out of his misery, or
B) He recharged another self destruct and killed himself.
That's it. Never did ANYTHING else. I'm pretty sure they never even fired their primary attack once.
And it was ridiculously annoying, because there was one point where my entire team were in a single united attack against an enemy turret, with about 6 or 7 drones all around us, and we're ready to take the turret... until the dumbass Clunk bolts ahead of everyone, self destructs, and gets wasted by the enemy barely trying from behind the turret. We were flattened shortly afterwards.
I don't even know what I was thinking playing more than one game with this dipstick. I must've been in an especially masochistic mood tonight. I had to fight every urge to send this guy a goddamn college lecture on how to NOT be an embarassingly piss-poor Clunk.

This is game is really fun, but can be frustrating if you can't talk to your teammates. I try to have at least one friend local or wear my headset. Problem is I don't find many people who have one.
Also, I'm not one to rage quit or anything, so even if my team is getting decimated one match, I'll play some more matches, use different tactics, etc.. It's disappointing when people leave half battle, and get replaced by solar-feeding bots... -_-
I'd like to find some [Awesomeauts] who have a headset or will at least stick around so we can see the enemies strategy and work to overcome it. I mean i fought the same team over and over tonight half the time with bots, and lets just say they as a team knew what they were doing...

I do have a mic, but I don't bother unless I see other people with them.

I don't have a Mic, but the d-pad commands are very nice, especially since you can see where they're coming from on the map.
Back to topic, I just played a game this morning with a Voltar that didn't heal. Not once, just went aggro (and died). I'm standing next to him with a quarter of health left and he brushes me off to go on another suicide run.
smh
