Chris Watters braves the dangers of Hueco Mundo in his review for Bleach: Soul Resurreccion.
Kinda disapointed, I was expecting bleach to be more like Naruto Storm Generations, one on one fights mostly.....still big fan of the MANGA!!! Not the anime.
You know, I just do not understand. As big as anime is in Japan and considering what Japan means to the gaming world you would think a fantastic Anime game of the big three would be released. If they would put as much time, effort, and yes money into making this game like Devil May Cry just for an example it would be a major hit. The universe is considerably larger then 98% of RPG video games anyway with an amazing story. Will we ever have an all time great game from Anime? That isn't just a fighter.
@Warningx13 Unfortunately, games based upon great mangas or animes usually just get the same treatment that movie tie-in games in the US.
And we all know how horrible those are =(
It's a shame.
@Warningx13 Also, for some stupid reason they keep using the brain dead Dynasty Warriors template on all manga/anime games... Why do this? So stupid.
Brainless beat 'em ups.
I'd love for them to make like some RPG-ish kinda game based on like Naruto/Bleach/One Piece and so on and so forth.
Or like some deep action game with combat similar to Ninja Gaiden and God of War or Devil May Cry, with actual difficulty and lots of combos to learn.
But instead they just make it lame.
On my opinion the game is not so bad: the graphics should have been a bit more accurate, though! I
They should do a Bleach game with game mechanics similar to DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3... and also with the same number of characters (over 100 :D)... put in a story mode that covers everything not just the last part of the anime (and also has clips from the show not just narration), some challenge modes, multiplayer and that's it... you have the ultimate Bleach game... if they would do that my life would be complete
I am disgusted it didnt get released in the UK. WTF is that about? Why do we not get the same great titles as others do in the US and Japan. UK gamers get $%£&ed over.
What do you mean the game offers us to play our favorite character? There are only few characters in it... quite a few of them are absent.
Hey, Gelugon_baat, I can't tell if you mean you think they're making good games or bad.... I liked the Ps3 Naruto Games, the last gen Gamecube Naruto: Clash of ninja games, and quite a few DBZ games as well ( minus the last 2, which were horrible). so, did you hate Bleach Soul Resurreccion, or like it like I do? and what about other anime based games?
I can't wait for a good Bleach game.. something like Rise of the Ninja or Broken bonds..
they should have made the game from start to finish, or to the final battle with aizen. they should make it like hundreds of enemies, and they should have had animated sequences in between every battle. the only fighting game that did something similar to that was the first dragonball game for the ps2. between every single battle was an awesome cinematic sequence that was made out from the anime.
Gamespot always rates Dynasty Warriors style games low....its like the keep expecting something new from this Beat-'Em-Up Genre. Its pretty funny to me. This game is a hack and slash, in the style of every Dynasty Warriors game before it. its also strictly fanservice, so the "story" is short because it expects fans to know it already. Honestly, this is a good way to do a Bleach game, if its not a 3D Fighting game :P
The only anime based game that is good is Dragon Ball Z. Most of their games are solid and fun, but they need to find a good company to make their games otherwise the will be crap like this one.
I loved the demo, have followed the manga/anime since the beginning and i'm definitely buying the game. I don't like the way the review puts down an awesome game like this, the same way they did the 2 Naruto ultimate ninja storm games for ps3. I'd probably give it a 8 or 9 out of 10 based on the demo alone, . This isn't the first time gamespot has giving a bad score and review for a good game, in fact i could be here all day listing the games they've wrongly said were bad. Bottom line is, Bleach Soul Resurreccion is a good game, that they've said was bad. If your a fan of the anime/manga series, ignore the review and reviewer, just get the game, you'll like it.
i am current with bleach and i like it but that doesn't mean that they can make a bad game and call it "Bleach" then expect me to pay the same price as a good game...people shouldn't be buying every single Bleach game just because its Bleach because it shows that they can just quickly make a cheap game and still get good enough sales :/
The review has so right and its pretty clear about if you are a bleach fan you sure will loveit lke soul carnival 1 & 2 if you are not then don't even bother watching it. For me ( a person who only watches bleach weakly, this game is a must buy but for you it may not.
The only really good and highly enjoyable anime-based game i've played was DBZ: Budokai 3 for the PS2. That game was epic.
Moronic Logic 2: Considering how much games need to have at least about 500,000+ people buy the game to be worthwhile to continue, it is also borderline moronic to think that the developer of this game did not need to introduce characters and story in a way that allow anyone to pick up and quickly see the motive behind the action involved. While it's obvious that the target audience is us Bleach Fans (I am actually a fan), it's no excuse of not at least beginning the game and throughout that makes the game accessible for all. If they're going to make a game this deep into the series, they should have started it right when or right after Ichigo comes back from Aizen revealing his true agenda, the initial nights of meeting these Arrancar in time. Initial nights of getting pwned by people like Grimmjow, meeting the Vizards, and etc. Think of it being like how Ninja Gaiden 1 (current generation) started only even more dramatic. All that said, it's fail on the game developer's part on using source material that can satisfy both current fans and allowing/ encouraging people after enjoying this to follow the franchise where it really gets its gains from: the manga....
Some of the logic I heard is borderline moronic: You guys want games based on your famous anime to stop sucking but you guys will buy this game no matter what score it gets? That is the EXACT problem. It's like games off movies, the game could be piss poor in execuation, but because you love the series in its primary medium, you think you're doing the right 'thing' or something (some fans even say "for the sake of series" to buy this crap. Customer's speak with their dollars and the overall quality of a product is ultimately dependent on customers? Why improve on something you know some fans will blindly buy? Look at the Madden Franchise, nuff said. Don't buy this crap, it's not like it'll hurt Kubo not do his job continuing the franchise for Jump every week.
@toddx77 Believe me dude I get ya, but (and I hate to keep using the same old argument over and over again) when you look at a game like NUNS2, that, not only was a beautiful game for the fans of the series, but also in terms of a fighting game, AND was accessible to noobs of both the anime and genre... you feel sad that there are so many missed opportunities in a game like this. Basically what I'm trying to say is, one of the things the hack n slash genre is known by most for are the "convoluted" stories the games try to tell. That's enough on it's own, but even then this game is all over the place, it can't even properly tell the TINY LITTLE CHUNK of story it was trying to tell without skipping past like 3/5 of it lol. So, not only is a noob to the anime lost, but fans get annoyed at all the missing content. I just HONESTLY think, if they took more time on this, to get a few more things right, it could have been the Bleach equivalent to what NUNS2 was for naruto. In terms of story, gameplay(more than 1 combo each) and the character list(oh the list.. :/)
An excellent review. I have never played the game but feel like I now know about exactly everything it has to offer. Thank you Mr. Watters for your thoroughness and sound judgment.
If you like Bleach, you're gonna like this. If you like Dynasty Warriors, You're gonna like this.
How does it get an Good emblem for "Outstanding visual design" and then get a bad remark for "Bland environments"?
So this is a PSN downloadable game isn't it? It doesn't seem worthy and besides the repetitiveness seems to be at the core of the game.
@gohoanq Well maybe its because Im such a nerd but when ever a movie, tv show, or video game of a comic is made I never expect it to be as good as the source material. Now thats not to say the game can't be good and easy to follow. I loved how the legacy of goku 2 and 3 did a great job of following the anime story as best they could. I wasn't trying to make excuses even if it sounded that way, I was basically saying that for a game based on a anime and manga in my opinion it shouldnt follow the story perfectly since us fans know the story. When I look at this game I just see a chance to get to play as the characters and see the world of Bleach through a game. Ofcoarse developers should always try to make the best game possible but if it is not understandable to new comers that is something I wouldn't hold against the game, but as I said Im pretty nerdy lol.
this game would have succeded if it was similar to Naruto storm 2 if cyberconnect made it instead of that crappy company
Looks like another Bleach game that won't surpass the first games (Blade of Fate and Dark Souls both for the Nintendo DS) but is not worse than Shattered Blade for the Wii. But personally is fun and entertainment (to give timeout on other genres). For me deserves a 6 or 6.5
@toddx77 You say that, but NUNS2 did such a Damn good job... that's why it's so sad when you come to a game like this. I've said before I love the game, but you(in general) shouldn't make excuses for a game that was clearly made to cash in on the fact that it's source material is popular.. They even said, "The incredibly popular anime and manga franchise comes to PS3" and "First Console Game for the Huge Anime MegaFranchise With over 65 million copies of the manga sold and over 1 million in US DVD sales, Bleach is one of the most popular anime series in the world" in the details for the game lol They gave the least amount of content possible without it getting ridiculous then sold it :/ But yea as I've said, it's mega fanservice for us all so I love it.
i love bleach so im personally baffled why they would make this game. give me a straight up epic beat em up anyday. id accept a port of the psp games over this in a heartbeat.
