- "Worth playing"
While not the greatest game in the world, Castle Crashers is well worth the purchase.
I've been anticipating this game since it was originally announced back on www.newgrounds.com, of which I was, for quite some time, a rather big fan over (amounting 10,000+ posts, top 100 community reviewer, etc.) so when the game turned out to not be the best game I had ever played, I was a tad disappointed - but I quickly got over it and shortly began to enjoy it.
The game is pretty simplistic. You have two attack buttons (X, Y), of which you can pull off some basic combos, a button for magic (B), a jump button (A) and some bonus items - like potions, ranged attacks, etc. that make use of the shoulder buttons, and a block function (LT).
The structure of the game is pretty much as simple as advancing from one level to the next. It's extremely simplistic, as was The Behemoths previous game, Alien Hominid. The game is basically a 2D beat 'em up with some RPG elements.
The game does actually have some surprising depth to it. Such as a huge array of weapons to pick from, pets which add bonuses to your stats, some pretty fun boss fights and a large number of unlockable characters, as well as a really fun multiplayer mode, which I've yet to use extensively. However, unless you are a hardcore RPGer prepared to waste plenty of time retreading and levelling, the game doesn't have much in the way or replay value once completed.
Gameplay: 7
Graphics: 7
Sound: 7
Replay Value: 3
Overall: 7
Great with friends, great for it's price, but no masterpiece.
