Is there an endgame? A win situation? Or a timer or something? Or is it like a SimCity, Minecraft sort of thing were the goal is to play and enjoy?

After being humiliatingly trolled by another player and bleeding out, Ed and Dan use your community know-how to finally get some positive momentum, persisting through disappearing weapons and melting sheep with their new best friend, the hatchet. Follow GameSpot_AU on Twitch!
looks like a buggier version of STALKER... a sentence I never thought I would utter. Looks cool though.
looks as polished as any Arma game ive played ...the controls are clumbsy at best with old graphics and by the way theirs much better zombie games already made so whats the point ? painfully stupid video.
I think this is an absolutely freaking awesome game that I might get never play...(Mac user :(...) There are few things more appealing that the zombie factor, killing with no remorse! and free roaming into cities! Being an Alpha game still, it looks its gonna be so good...
The only thing that I don't really understand and maybe that the human behavior thing is players killing other players... maybe I'm just naive and innocent or just noob. But If I where able to play this game and encounter another survivor i would not think on killing but to try to survive together and try to get more people along!
I saw a video last night on youtube, this guy snipping some one who said "FRIENDLY" before, and Bum head-shot.... don't get it... I guess we all are to used to killing everything it moves and not thinking thins game has another logic.
Anyway, great game!!!!
I hope will be for mac!!!!!!!
@danielcliment agreed, players just murdering other players for the hell of it, no thanks
@danielcliment I try to not kill people too, working together can work a lot better. Sometimes people will kill others out of desperation (if they're dying of thirst, hunger, bleeding out, etc.), but sometimes it's just people defending what they see as "their territory". Or just being pains.
@almat96 I agree, maybe in a paranoid game like this one situations like that can happen, what is that "bandit" thing, a category you can choose from? does that mean you dedicate to "hunt" people down? look interesting! I was a bit annoyed with this 2 guy2 in an airfield, one with a sniper from a hill an another one in one of the hangars, this guy appears, asks them "friend or foe" and next, headshot dead.... that wasnt nice.
I really want to play this game!!!!!!!!!
@almat96 Damn.... Now I really need to play this.... If this is an alpha game, can't wait to see the big enchilada!
@danielcliment What the whole "bandit" thing is, is that once someone kills a certain number of players, their appearance changes from a civilian clothes to digital camo with a head wrap. It's sort of a warning sign to others, saying "hey, i'm gonna shoot you in the face, so avoid or shoot on sight"
I have played arma-A2-A20A from the beginning and pulled my hair out over many of the flaws in this game (too many to name) from the painful graphics to stilted and limited animations, but this mod is too boring to stomache ps.Ed you are a girl
people who havent even tried ARMA 2s editor are truly missing out on one of the best war experiences ever. You can make any style game you want in the editor and even a COD experience if you want. Just put a map marker on the map and a trigger in the editor and grab 30 Ai in the town , grab 4 squad guys and have an awesome time. Or even create 5 squads of 10 guys each and make them ransack a whole city and be part of that invasion Or even defend a whole town against a horde of US troops you plot out in the editor. randomise the enemy, do whatever you want in the editor.
this game has SO much to offer. the REAL ARMA 2 game is awesome.
recommend a free game called Slender too, if you have time its free and only 50mb's, but totally worth it.
I bet the arma 2 team makes more money off this mod than the game itself!
I wonder how long we have to wait for a purpose built version of the game?
You guys need to just skip over the crossbow and bolts, that thing is damn near worthless unless you are completely unarmed.
Hah, I see the dude isn't any better at the game then he was the first time. I think he needs a LOT more practice.
@jer_1 Haha, well what you see on site is pretty much the amount we've played so far. If we end off with a death next time I'm going to cram as much practice in as I can.
To people trying this game out. It's like Dark Souls where the dying is part of the learning process. The first few times playing kinda sucks but it gets better, kinda like ... :)
Stick with it and you will get in to the game more with headset chatting, exploring, grouping up with friends or strangers to clear out a town, etc.
So I just bought Dragon's Dogma. Then I see some stuff online about this little mod called called DayZ. I tried it out and thought, "pretty cool, pretty creepy but kinda buggy and slow" Then I played it some more and when I caught myself praying that a wandering zombie wouldnt see my while laying down in a corner or my wife yelling at the damn screen at the chance that a chopper flying by would pick me up while at the top of a useless lighthouse. Dragon's Dogma just sits collecting dust (AND IT"S A COOL GAME!!!)
This game is awesome. Excited to see where game goes from alpha. I would totally pay money for this.
Game needs not just NPC zombies, but even some bandits would be interesting. That HORRIBLE interface will keep me away, i really hope its fixed up, the zippy zombies was as far as i was willing to go. Just so much that should and needs to be done with it to make it as amazing as it should be. Arma 3 should be Day-Z and built absolutly around the ideas.
Day Z will be Arma 2 - because BIS want to keep sales of Arma 2 going when Arma 3 comes out.
Hopefully the DayZ devs will release the mod as standalone game once they feel they're ready, maybe get a Kickstarter fundraiser going. That would be sweet.
@Madball357 Arma 3 definitely should NOT be dayz. Dayz should be exactly what it is, a mod for Arma 2 and eventually a mod/mode for Arma 3.
Arma 3 is going to be badass!
I didn't say ArmA 3 should be DayZ o.O
I just said at some point DayZ will be a standalone game, if the mod devs get around to it.
the only thing that really bothers me about this game is when i finally find a hatchet or a gun and then get randomly sniped from a half mile away. not in any way a complaint, since this is definitely my fault for being seen, but the fact that random bandits with a character thats been alive for weeks can just kill you instantly is intimidating. i hope other devs take the hint from this mod and make games that are super hardcore and punishing. its definitely the best survival experience ive ever played, despite its overall clunkiness and terrible inventory system. im not sure what my point is, but i look forward to witnessing the development of this mod as it nears final release.
Things are disapearing into the ground when you loot them because you are clicking "Hide body" from the context menu on the left. Also you need to find a hunting knife before you can gut an animal.
@pelvist Thanks for the tip! Will be less freaked out next time.
@doorselfin The hide body option is great for staying stealthy and hiding from other players. If you leave a trail of corpses, someone might investigate an area so they can find you. For good or bad. Alternatively, use any corpses you find to judge whether someone might be (or have been) near you. Unless you see a zed that fell off a roof. They sometimes spawn on them and then fall off to their deaths. Lol. I believe corpses last for 15 minutes.
The building you visited at 1:22:00 (with the tower and big red hanger doors) was a firehouse. It can spawn pistols, bandages, ammo, shotguns, assault rifles, snipers, you name it. They are only located in the major cities of Chernogorsk & Elektro (where you logged at) and the northwest airfield. There's also 2 of them in Elektro. They are also popular places for players, so watch out. Right now you're in Elektro (bottom right-ish corner of the map). It's home to many buildings as wowgrandpa below said. Getting a Chezch or Alice pack, at least a pistol, food, and drinks are the bare minimum. Loot a hospital for morphine injectors if you can (they fix broken limbs). Blood packs too, but you need another player to administer it to you. After that, you can try travelling abroad, heading north to visit other towns, scavenge deer blinds (lookout towers for hunters), crashed heli sites, etc.
Since you had the most trouble with your gear system, I'll try to help ya out.
1) Loot system bugs out when replacing a weapon overtop of your current one (as you did with your axe and shotgun). To prevent this...
2) Place main gun on the ground first
3) Put new gun into inventory
4) Pick up old gun again (if you have room and want to)
Time consuming, but bug free! Not sure if the same goes for your backpack too (can't remember accurately). Well, when in doubt, do the same as above.
@Falzonn Fantastic! Thanks for the knowledge and step by step. Here's hoping they fix that inventory soon.
@doorselfin Oh, also! Since you only get the graphic of whats visually inside your backpack when inside a loot pile, and quick way to tell how much room you've got left is to open your pack and look at the # at the top. Ex: 8/12. This means your pack is holding 8 items out of a max 12.
Hahaha look at this:
This is why free-form games are miles ahead of all that next-gen cinematic shit.
@Madball357 Man, that guy reminds me of why I tend to shoot most people I can't sneak past. It's also why I play with no music and the volume turned up. Don't let anyone sneak up on you.
Yeah, at first as I suppose every newb one would try to at least communicate and say "friendly here!"
Haha no more! Now it's shoot first ask questions later.
These guys are freaking retarded. It's like they've never played a game before. They constantly miss stuff, seem ridiculously clueless, and can't even distinguish what the hell different buildings look like.
Is this an add-on to the Arma series? Or is this a stand-alone? Because this is totally the type of Zed-game I want to play!!! The only thing that would make it better is if you could get a couple co-op'ers with you. But the simplicity, the openess of the world, and the focus on actual survival is nice. Just as a viewer I have to say that the view of the Zombie out across the field gave me goose bumps. Having stuff jump out and scare you is one thing, and to many games use this tactic to often. But it's the views of distant danger is great. Sneaking through the open, trying not to get swarmed is wonderful. Looks so much more survival and way less just blood and gore. Looks like it could be a real great game.
So is this stand-alone game, or add-on content?
@CruiserCaptain its a mod go to their wesite dayzmod.com and you can download it for free
@CruiserCaptain Is there multiplayer? Yeah, it's multi only. Servers range from 25 to 60 players max, with a good hundred or so servers ranging all over the world.
@CruiserCaptain This is currently an add-on mod for Arma 2 Combined Operations (term for Arma 2 and the Operation Arrowhead expansion). It's free to download provided you have both Arma 2 games.
