did you read anything any of us said it's optional and those "monsters" are called necromorphs.

if by optional you mean its in the official story whater you like it or not, ya sure its optional.

if by nercomorph you mean armored soldier, sure they are necromorph.

Dead Space 3 is basically CoD in space.

Is it really? What else do you see in your crystal ball?

You haven't played it. I haven't played it. The game testers haven't played it. See the pattern?

Ill happily admit if you're right, but not until the flippin game is released for a start.

horror game and co-ops doesnt mix period.

DS developer are great and all, but i highly doubt they are capable in making a horror co-ops game. co-ops game that are scary is impossible. co-ops require communication, communication with another player simply kill the mood.

and dont give me that "its a separate mode" crap, i highly doubt DS team are going to spend extra time in developing single mode and co-ops mode.

most likely they are mash together and just dump an AI to annoying you if you doesnt want to play with people. to technically its just either getting annoyed by stupid AI or stupid people.

Developers believe action sells more than survival horror. They are right, and they're using your beloved franchise to cash-in. Is it right? No, there are enough action FPS and TPS on the market as is. I honestly can't wait until for the inevitable over saturation of them so when can finally get back to playing good games.

The heavy emphasis placed on co-op and online is dampening the depth of video games as a whole. Everything is becoming casual, accessible - the experience loses depth and often becomes shallow to appeal to a wider audience.

Forced co-op is a bad idea for any title, a prime example being the travesty that was RE5. Optional co-op is a bit more acceptable, but it depends on what terms. When co-op is forced we are given completely craptastic AI and/or a dull single-player experience.

Though you'll definitely get folks that blindly sling around generalizations. "You're afraid of and/or intolerable to change". It's simply an attempt at negation; they don't want to hear what you have to say. This pandering, kiss ass PR mentality is the reason the industry walks all over customers.

"We will give you what we want you to have and you will like it".

Obviously people are pissed due to the lack of isolation, an integral piece of horror that can often make or break the experience. It's too vital to exclude in horror media, which is why Resident Evil 5 should have been a full on action title without the Resident Evil makeup. At least the series wouldn't have been lying about it's identity.

    "Fear you can't forget".

    Clearly false advertising...

RE5 was the least scary game ive played this gen for a so called horror game. Was an enjoyable action game i suppose, just not horror at all.

Wasn't so much the isolationism, but the angry murderers as opposed to actual zombies. I was insanely bored by RE4 - torches and pitchforks, really?? Not my cup of tea.

But yea not a bad action game all in all, RE5 at least.

People who complain about Dead Space 3 having co-op are foolish and ignorant. The Dead Space franchise has always been about more than it's scare factor. The dynamic of the series, or any franchise for that matter, is the story being told and the audience having a good time with said story. It's about immersion, and making you feel that you're right there with the character. And I'm sure the series will retain it's scariness co-op or not.

I mean, why do people still go see horror movies in theaters, and still jump in fright? It's still fun to get scared having someone with you.

And people need to stop blaming Resident Evil 5's co-op for it's lack of scares. The game altogether wasn't scary, with or without a partner, because it wasn't meant to be scary. Capcom decided to take the series in a more action-centric direction from the get-go. And I saw it coming since RE 2. And I'm sure Visceral Games has no plans to go as over the top as Resident Evil.

Besides, even if Dead Space was to have a more action-y tone to it, one must remember one of the franchise's biggest inspirations is the Alien franchise. And Aliens, which in my opinion was superior to the already awesome Alien, had a more action-y tone to it, all while keeping the scare-factor and all around creepy atmosphere established in it's predecessor. And it had a GROUP of people working together, not just one guy and a partner.

People who complain about Dead Space 3 having co-op are foolish and ignorant.

Because they don't prefer jolly cooperation in their horror and believe it worsens the experience? Mature.

The Dead Space franchise has always been about more than it's scare factor.

Like any franchise there is usually more to it than it's most appealing attribute, this doesn't justify weakening said attribute unless the series is moving to pander to a different (more profitable) demographic. It obviously is.

The dynamic of the series, or any franchise for that matter, is the story being told and the audience having a good time with said story. It's about immersion, and making you feel that you're right there with the character. And I'm sure the series will retain it's scariness co-op or not.

You talk about immersion but stress plot. In horror games, atmosphere and aesthetics heavily outweigh the importance of plot in terms of immersion. People complain over loss of isolation in horror games for a reason.

Horror is being reduced in favor of action, co-operative play, and casual appeal.

It's still fun to get scared having someone with you.

    It's also much scarier alone.

It wasn't meant to be scary? But it was advertised as such. You mean Capcom lied to us?

Co-op would have diminished RE5's horror if it had any to begin with.

And it had a GROUP of people working together, not just one guy and a partner.

How many horror scenarios do you see a GROUP of people working together and suddenly get seperated, having to fend for themselves?

This and i dont understand how issac would go through hoardes of necro's by himself again it would just be pushing it, I dont care if i am playing with somebody. If the fear of dying and having low ammo plus necro's leking around me ready to tear me up is still a factor than im still scared. if the graphic novel can't tell that this game is still going to have that ur F'ed attitude that i dont know what to tell u,i mean cmon issac had to deal with 2 ships full of necro's in the graphic novel they showed u, there in a city and ships are falling out the dam sky. Also im pretty sure the goverment is against issac so why wouldn't he have to shoot some humans?

    @Spade59: Capcom lying
Please tell me that's a rhetorical question.

And, as far as the almighty internet has gathered, if you want to play the game solo, you still can, and the second character won't be replaced as an AI partner. It'll just be Isaac or John. And if you guys really think EA and Visceral are tacking on Co-Op to simply appeal to a bigger demographic, one must remember, VIDEO GAME MAKING IS MONEY MAKING!!! It's not like they're underground rock bands "selling out" and signing on to a major record label to gain more money. That was the plan from the beginning. And I personally saw this coming since they put multiplayer on Dead Space 2. But, all in all, I'm sure Visceral has considered its core fanbase while developing this game.
