E3 2012: In Dead Space 3, the only one who can hear you scream is your co-Op partner.
Really like how everyone is reacting to co-op. It's just a trend. The big difference here is that it's optional. It's clearly stated in interviews and the Stage Demo that you can play the game alone. There's no Carver in that case, no friendly AI taking over carver. Jump in - jump out co-op. If you have a friend to play it with he jumps in as Carver but otherwise he's just a new character in the game. He's part of the story not necessarily the action itself. The game can become more versatile like this. You can play it alone survival horror game or play it with a friend which is more action-packed with horror elements. Dead Space will never disappoint. It will always be fun, there will be times when it scares you and there will be guts flying all over the place. This change will make it more desirable for a larger audience. Just like the implementation of multiplayer to Dead Space 2. Many have cried and said it will ruin the whole game. Well I like playing with 3 other friends and we still do time to time. Really cool concept for this genre and to be honest if you don't like it don't buy it. But you will miss out on one of the best games on the market. And 2013 is starting off really well. Just have to get my wallet full and upgrade my PC for Dead Space 2, Crysis 3, Metro Last Light, GTA5 and the list just goes on. Enjoy that there are this many to choose from and play the ones you want.
I don't mind coop but I think it's really suited best for standard action games, not horror survival. To create h-s atmosphere one needs to feel alone, trapped and isolated, that's what really makes guts to chill. With coop I don't think you can get that sort of feeling.
everyone needs to shut the fuck up, they are going to make it a horror survival game because that is what the game is, all they have shown u is the coop, there is a single player mode and a coop mode, i will do the single player first but they just want to see how well coop go's, so everybody needs to stop getting their pannies in a bunch,
i don't agree with how they're taking the series, but i love dead space so much that i'm going to buy it regardless.
This game looks awesome. I wonder if Isaac still has a partner in single player. I don't think you should judge whether or not it is a survival horror or action game until you've seen what the rest of the game is like. There may be still be environments that are as dark and creepy as Dead Space 1 & 2.
I hope it's just the demo, but looks like they've abandoned survival horror completely and gone the all-action route.
I really don't mind swearing, but is there an F word quota when ever a game implements co-op?
I just hate huge bosses. They really have to stop doing that. You just know they put a huge amount of time making this look cool, and the gameplay always suffers. The boss always has a weak spot, and it always has a set of moves so you have to time your attacks. It feels like they're trying to shove cool moments down my throat. It stopped being cool when I turned 14.
Dead Space had a unique atmosphere, if they could make a Hybrid with combat and those dark halls with voices inside Isaac head I would be happy, but I don't think that will be the case.
Still I'm looking forward for this game not as much as I did for Dead Space 2.
another good thriller game lost..and transformed to an action shooter..just because it sells!!! SAD!!!
I'm trying to keep the faith. On one hand I feel a little alienated due to the lack of isolation and fear that having drop in/drop out co-op will bring. On the other, I feel like Isaac Clarke's character has taken an arc, he's fought who knows how many necromorphs, he's probably the most equipped to handle them than anyone else in the galaxy. I'm not scared of them anymore either. The fact that this installment is about bringing the fight to the source of the necromorphs and taking them out coupled with Isaac's journey kind of suits (in my mind) a more action-oriented title. Its a little difficult to think of the identity of the IP evolving rather than staying static and pure to horror though, that's all
WTF!?
This looks awful! Bland, predictable 3rd person shooter - Complete U-turn from what Dead Space is about.
As if we don't have enough of this crap already!
First off, let me state that I am a huge DS fan. I've beaten both, gotten all achievements in each and replayed the first like 6 times. I loved the horror feeling Dead Space 1 gave me that no other game had, and would gladly play it again. Now, with Dead Space 3, they are dissing the horror it seems for coop action, much like RE5. However, I will not judge it just yet and i have extreme faith in EA and Visceral games on making DS3 as fantastic as its predecessors. :)
I thought this was Dead Space, not Friend Space. I'm not sure how this will work out personally, the whole premise was that Isaac was alone and that made the events scary, coupled with the fact that something was trying to rip your throat out. Co-op just makes things...less scary. RE5 is a shining example.
Here's hoping... I just can't, srly do whatever you want, I just don't care anymore.
I'll play it because it looks fun. But sad to see yet another horror game get chewed up into a typical sci-fi action shooter.
Looking more and more like indie games are the place to go for true horror games now.
What the Hell Happned to Dead Space? Since when has it become a Gears of War Game??
I don't like how you're suddenly comfortable around tons of other people now, seeing as Issac was hardly ever in the same room with another person in the last games
I hope there will be more necromoph enemies than human one's in Dead Space 3. God I thought I'd never say that.
I'm glad he said parts of the game will still take place in deep space: the zero-gravity sections are some of the scariest, most tense parts of Dead Space. The co-op doesn't appear to be anything special as far as this video goes but it could be fun. I'm looking forward to this one.
Hmm seems I missed the memo where Isaac the Engineer of Dead Space 1 changed to Isaac the Mercenary/Soldier in Dead Space 3. I loved the feeling of scarce ammo, weapon scavenging and using engineering and mining tools as weapons in DS.
Seems now Isaac is well-versed and proficient with multiple categories of rifles, machine guns and whatnots.
Hmm I guess the series is going in a different direction. Hmm its still intriguing but not for the reasons I had originally hoped for..
@vikram_basu123 Well, i can't remember of a series of a big company that stayed true to the series all the way.
There's CoD who never changes, staying dull because of it's predictability.
There's NFS who was a street racing, then all of a sudden is a pro circuit sim. It basically made a new game but instead of risking a new IP they used a famous name.
It's hard to find the exact point between keeping it fresh and keeping it true to the franchise. The ones that i can remember is Gears of War, AC (with the exception of Brotherhood), Splinter Cell (until Double Agent), Codemasters racing games, etc.
Now more on-topic, i think that after what happened in the first game Isaac can handle weapons as good as any soldier, and i think it's smart they made him a engineer, because the main quality of a true engineer is not knowledge, but yes it's open mind and fast learning. So, instead of spending most of his time with "OMG THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING, PANIC, PANIC!" He always remain calm and adapt to the situation. That's what made him survive.
Dead Space 2 wasn't horror any more, it was a "survival sci-fi shooter", but it was good. They're creating a gap from the first game, but they're trying to keep it fresh. I'm really interested in Dead Space now because of the coop, since they are more to the "action" side, doing so with a friend is way more fun. I'm still not sure if Visceral found that point between radical changes~derivative, or they're more to the side of changes. So far i can say i'm liking it.
And if you think about it, it makes sense storywise. Like i said, Isaac is a person of an open mind, after everything he went through, do you think anything can scare him now?
@menace420WHY ARE YOU SAYING THAT THE THIRD LOOKS GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ali1111111 I'll admit the game looks good and I'm sure it will be fun but it is not like the past two games. Firefights with other humans? Coop? Looks more like Gears of Wars than a horror survival game.
@menace420 GoW was a horror survival in a manner of speaking. That feeling of extermination, being outnumbered, unknown...
But they're not scary, neither DS or GoW (ok the first DS was). The second was something like FEAR (the first), firefights, firefights, firefights, scares, firefights, firefights, firefights, scares...
Besides, if what you want is a scary game, i'll recommend anything from frictional studios. They know how to keep on your toes...
I get what you're saying ampthos, but regardless, more Dead Space is a good thing. I just love the story / backstory about the markers and want more! What's with many of the demos at E3 dropping so many F-bombs. I'm no prude, but this and the Ubisoft Farcry demo just seemed a bit excessive in their usage.
i'm worried but it should be expected, basically every survival horror follows this life cycle of becoming less survival horror and more action oriented if it makes it pass the sequel
Hi, i am ashkin if anyone here do a little Bartle Doo? now im not ashkin if you like tacos up on em sides, ima ashkin if you like to slap a cow on em ribs. So, do you? ima ashkin if you like to spare em meat onto em sides?
Suddenly Ellie is a totally different person. Too bad, I really liked her design. And I hoped for a wicked eyepatch, and now they give me a healthy eye...bastards.
Lost Planet meets Gears of War. Looks like they sacrificed every bit of originality dead space had. Machine gun and aiming reticule? Sidejumps? Meh.
Aww. When i first heard that dead space 3 was in the works i was like YAY! After this i'm not so sure, it looks like it's ditching its survival horror elements which i loved. =[
