EVO 2012: Maxwell McGee talks to the Editor-in-Chief of Shoryuken.com, Adam "Keits" Heart, about his new, two-button fighting game: Divekick.
Everyone hating on the game COMPLETELY misses the point of what the game is about, and don't really know how popular this game is within the FGC.
Some people don't seem to understand what's going on here, I'd explain but gamespot is worse than YouTube when it comes to pseudo intellectual know it alls.
were actual gamers doing the testing? or people that only play mobile phone games? im working on a game called super pong...same thing as pong, except you can move up/down and back/forth. any takers? sorry tho guys, its gonna retail at 59.99 lol
If you guys don't get the joke - Dive Kick the game makes fun of Marvel vs Capcom 3 where any scrub could pick Wolverine in that game and beat really good players just by mashing divekick in the air into a full, easy combo that would often kill. Since the release of UMVC3 they toned down Wolvie's overpowered dive kick ability..
@emperorwolffang Anyone who thinks this game will be horrible and completely writes it off is an idiot.
Sounded really retarded at first..but after listening to this guy he seems pretty dedicated to bringing something new to the genre and I guess thats cool. But still I think this game would be mighty repetitive.
>:( so many people in here who are hating just to hate. If you don't like fighting games then that's cool but don't flame a game because of it. If you follow fighting games then you know how intense this game can be. Especially if you've seen it in action, the first tournament I saw for it I was getting so hype cause it is so simple and basic but the high level strategy involved is ridiculous. It's like Chess you don't realize that guy moving his Knight in a position to be taken out by the opposing players bishop is actually setting up a check mate in 3 turns when he baits him twice more.
@Grimbear13 Your not going to get anywhere with these comments. Just let it be my friend..let it be.
I only worry about rip offs. A game like this should be very easy to rip off and someone to put it up for free with ads on it. That would really suck. I'm gonna dive into the kick starter... -_- lol. I just can see this being ripped so hard. I really hope it doesn't happen.
@Cephrien you aint neva lyin i mean come on.
@spydayx1 you realize the entire point of the game is for it to be not complicated right? did you even watch the video posted on the link? people enjoy the game because it offers a level of skill without the complexity of modern-day fighting games. this game is more about strategy, skill, and timing, not "who knows a better button-mash combo" or "who can lock someone in the corner longer". you're also comparing side-scroll "beat-em-up" games to a 1.v.1 fighting game, and you can't make any sort of parallel between them, it's like comparing halo to big buck hunter because they're both games with guns. there's also the fact that, as he stated in the video which you probably didn't watch, It's a $10 game. it's the equivalent of an Xbox live or PSN arcade game. It's meant to be a parody on normal fighting games, it's meant to be tactical over button-mashing, and it's meant to be something quick and easy to pick up and play with your friends. if you want a fighting game thats just combo-this and stunlock-that, you're more than welcome to pay your $80 for a KoF, or street fighter, or tekken, but don't talk down about a game that decided to try something different than all of the other games on the market
@BlackReaper1_33 I think it's cool for someone who is simple-minded to be challenged on a cerebral level, rather than a complex one. All that's okay.. But, do not be surprised that traditional fighting game players do not embrace this. It can not, and never will be, as complex or deep as a real fighting game. It's too simple for that.
All fighting games are about strategy, skill and timing. Any good player will tell you, if you're losing to 'button mash combo's', you're just not very good at the game. Which is fine.
But, this seems ridiculous to many because it's like, are people are so basic that we have to simplify game experiences now so they can "keep up"? We're supposed to be getting smarter, not the other way around.
It just feels like another portrait of a society that is becoming increasingly less intelligent and adaptive, and more complacent and demanding. It's not the game itself as much as what it represents as a snapshot of the industry.
I already contributed, I really want this game to have online play - otherwise it's kinda pointless for me to own. :(
@SteadyShark I'm in the same boat man :( I REALLY hope this gets funded to include net play...also what's with all the haters in here... I haven't even tried the game but everything I've seen about it it looks hilariously awesome.
this actually looks fun :O
I like how KICK doesn't even bother getting his hands out of his pockets XDDD
The negative comments are people who have not tried the game. Having witnessed reactions of actual players, I'm blown away. This is a parody game and the players are not only in on the joke, but they're enjoying the experience in suprising ways. People line up to play because of the hype... the come back because it's fun.
@PapaKeits Of course the trash talk can get super trashy when it comes to fraud detections. Nothing like frauding an opponent. Then again there's nothing like getting frauded.Keits, we keep saying if this game comes out we need a choke detection warning.
this looks too simple to be fun more then an hour :)
on a side note: still waiting for a fighting game to come even close to Samurai Shodown 2
I think this looks quite good. If they introduce a character creation option I can see this being very popular on social media sites.
well at least my dog can play computer games now, hang on rover i ll just get in my sneaky position and press one button so i jump then one after to dive, wooo you sneaky Russian you moved !! and now for a game of pong, or maybe i ll go cleanse my eyes with hot pokers, just to be sure they arn't deceiving me.
@itchyflop i can see this game require more skill to get a 30 win streak then some generic multi-button faceroll fest. OH LOOK I SMASHED ALL OF THE FRIGGIN BUTTONS ON THE JOYPAD AND HE DID THIS REALLY COOL MOVE AND I WON or OH LOOK I FOUND THIS REALLY COOL MOVE ON THIS CHARACTER AND ITS REALLY HARD TO COUNTER AND I KEEP DOING IT OVER AND OVER AND WINNING. ITS SO COOL!
@bambrek haha!! that made me smile (i dunno if it was meant to). Maybe these gamers arn't playing them right then, Tekken requires plenty of timing and strategy with button configurations, whilst being a totally different game from SF, dead or alive has counter moves which are quite difficult to pull off. Have a look a fighting masters on the genesis, this reminds me of that (which i actually liked).I hear you buddy, keep gaming bro :)
@itchyflop hahaha well played. but to be fair, pong can still be a fun game. and I feel like divekick will be too. but you're right it's certainly not up to the level of any fighting game. sure it will be fun and you will have to use a decent bit of strategy, but nowhere near a full fighting game experience obviously.
Outsmarting people is essentially what everyone tries to do in fighting games anyways, he's just making the most basic idea playable. Looks like a super fun game to play with lots of friends. Not with npcs though.
