Hahah, Carmack's a god damn genius.

It's funny watching all the Rage kids crying cause their precious video game had glitches while Carmack is busy inventing the future with ski goggles and duct tape.

Don't you ever die John.

since rage i no longer take Carmack seriously.

i enjoyed this game, but it was utterly forgettable, even without taking into account the utter fail of the launch, the awful choices they made with the engine and game design or the embarrassing dismissiveness of customers complaints. i am sorry Carmack, you are no longer relevant in this industry - take a hard look at Randy Pitchford and learn something.

@JaJDoo Carmack is a graphics programmer and engineer, not an artist, or level designer, or story writer for that matter. Yes Rage's launch and choices were definitely not great, and he even admitted and apologized on behalf of the company @ Quakecon at his keynote (which was brilliant by the way) for the lack support and poor choices. Even though I didn't like Rage either, because of the bad multiplayer, the graphics in the game were spectacular, and it was decent fun for what it was, though I believe it not to be a @ release $60 title.

The only comparison I could even remotely make is that Carmack and PItchford are both very much enterprising, but, aside from that their backgrounds and talents are completely different. Carmack is very much more a scientist than anything else. Pitchford is a straight up sales man, and business man now.

No one can truly predict where this is going & how well it will be received. BUT, it's Carmack here people! If this is place your bets time, I'd put it all on him.

@rob_dAmAgE  can you name one genre shifting game from id in the last decade?

all were good lookers with very little substance.

 @JaJDoo

Id's place in the gaming industry tends to lead more to technology and software, thats Carmack's forte.  Not necessarily the games themselves but Idtech engines are almost always top end.

JaJDoo
JaJDoo

@turdimus yet almost one one uses those engines. compare the amount and popularity of games developed on unreal engines 1->3 to id tech 3->5. the hardware industry tends to ignores unpopular engines. being top end at the direction Carmack chose made Rage's textures weigh at 150GB before launch.

John Carmark has always been an visionary from creating some of the first and greatest 3D engines, to pioneering licencing game engines, creation of on-line / LAN multiplayer games to this. His contributions are always valued because people respect his ethos. That?s to always push technologies boundaries.

I love John Carmack's work he does I honestly do not know how his brain fits in his skull, but I am agreeing with Justin "I will not rush out to buy one". Don't get me wrong though it's something unique same thing with the 3D HDTV Didn't get one because I already wear glasses it will be something else on the market HDTV, 3D HDTV or a VR headset.

They're so ashamed of RAGE they still use Doom 3 for every tech-demo

@s4dn3s5 not sure which version of rage you played (if you even did play it) but the one I played was awesome.

@famekiller that's because you have very poor taste in games. Rage was a crappy shotter, with a sh1tty engine, terribad textures and r3tard3d AI. Right, not even Doom 3 had good AI, but that was 8 years ago.

Ofc newbies and console gamers loved it.

In other words, "You crazy kids, get off my lawn!!" (I also played the first release of Wolfenstein 3D)

@s4dn3s5 Sounds like you might be the one with bad taste in games there mate. But that's OK. You enjoy Barbie and Friends.  And spelling words with numbers is now unoriginal and a bit outdated don't you think? not to mention retarded. Time to move on.

Justins gradual americanisation with his accent makes me cringe, im not against the american accent, or even if someones accent changes, it's just, i dunno, like a bad parody. Sorry Justin :)
