Time for a strength hero! Zorine springs Skeleton King on Ed and he attempts to deal with the terrible burden of being the team's tank. Can a resurrection skill help this newbie out?
I'm a big fan of Spirit Breaker myself, as far as melee heroes go.
2 Passives and 2 very awesome targeting skills used for ganking and chasing. Getting a kill with his ult after the enemy thinks they have gotten away safely is a great feeling.
I see many people playing as Skeleton King though, and I hate going against him because I always forget about the resurrection. Don't think I'll forget as much in the future after watching this episode. Thanks Zorine and Ed.

I haven't played since when Dota was on TFT. In Dota 2, can you level up stats instead of your skills? Because if you're a melee up against 2 heroes in a lane, survivability is very important hence the need for more stats. Ed is getting less painful to watch though.
Ed is getting better, but he should be introduced to more variation of hero, different skill/item builds, and of course new heros, and he should try playing actual pubs, because matchmaking will only match you against your skill level...and Zorine needs to remind Ed more frequently turn off armlet...
cooldown for ress is 1 min, that is too quick in my opinion! A feeded Skeleton king will be VERY hard to take down once and with resurrection 60 sec later?
@Mertyref Well it is too quick but of course carries such as am or even hero's such as na who can burn his mana, or if you get the item that does the ability purge which allows you to minus mana every hit you do, he shouldn't resurrected but even a very well farmed harder carry then skele king can take him down twic
2 Like Personly i never max hellfire blast first
because the 1 lvl already gives max stun and slow the rest of the lvls only improve damage. so rather lvl up lifesteal aura and crith since those bost increase survivabilety early game. if u make a crith it steals extra life for u 2 ofc
1 Like @doombones Normally hellfire is maxed first because burst damage matters more early game. your dps is too low for crit to be significant and lifesteal will push your creep further, which is undesirable for farming
1 Like @Soundaholic92 @doombones well early on you won't have much mana to spam ur hellfire blast...and that the early game damage is enough and a 2sec stun and a crazy slow should do the job early on...early on ur crit should do about 200 dmg at crit lvl 3 - lvl 4 which is about lvl 8 roughly at 7-9 min, and roughly by then a treads/phase and ur crit if ur not such a good farmer will help you last hit and life steal more survivability on lane, because many newbs may find it hard to lane with a meele hero and get last hits, skele king will really make it easier with your crit and insane lifesteal
@Soundaholic92 normaly i would say your right cause the mana cost of hellfireblast doesnt raise with his lvl. but hes solo laneing against 2. so the extra push aint that bad. and seeing as thay aim on the ranged creep first that deals the most damage thay try to push in to the tower and make it a quick tower destroy so thay have a easy time ganking so in this case i would max lifesteal since a tank doesnt need that much farm he can get the farm lategame

As someone who?s only been playing for 4 days, with this being my 3rd time playing Morphling, the game and the commentary has been quite helpful.
In fact it was the DOTA 2 diaries series that finally convinced me to give the game a try and it was great to be able to play with those of a similar skill level!
I also think that Ed did quite well for his first time on a melee tank character.
I?m looking forward to the next instalment of the series :)

Idk if it was ever mentioned in the video, but after he got heart he could have left armlet on permanently. The regen from heart is enough to cancel out the health drain from armlet.
2 Like Another great video, thanks! Ed is like myself in that he is way too hard on himself. It's a very complex game. You have to store up a volume of thousands of bits of information and be able to recall the right one instantly as the appropriate situation arises. That takes a whole lot of time and practice. So, don't be so hard on yourself for not being able to do it right away. Nobody else could, either.
Finally a melee hero...... Wooo hoooo.... Me Favourite!!!! :D Wow, seriously Ed no matter wat, u have improved. So u didn't get many kills. Big deal. No one does in the first couple of games. But like Zorine said the most important thing is not to die. n compared to the other dota 2 diaries videos u died way less. And as always a great episode once again :)
1 Like @rahul4life well hes sepose to die less cause of only the hero he picked. he has skellking uber tank with ressurection omg if he would die more with this hero he would reaaaly totaly suck balls
but luckly for him he didnt :P
Another enjoyable video, and as much as you may hate it Ed, changing up the variety constantly by playing new characters is very insightful. Overall, you should not get so down about this match since I also agree with Zorine about how well you did given it was your first run with SK. Also, remember, your role as melee is to tank and initiate, and I wouldn't downplay the high number of assists you had.

1 Like At 10:07 Ed mentions that his creeps are pushing very quickly. This is because you leveled vampiric aura early in the game. The aura will pump your creeps and cause them to push, and given your situation at the solo bot lane, you don't want this to happen. Don't level vampiric aura until later, putting 1 point in between levels 6 and 11, during a time that you begin pushing towers. Instead, go with stats early in the game. This will help to boost SKs pitiful mana pool so he can cast more stuns.
Vampiric Aura actually scales terribly. An increase +5% life leech is garbage at earlier levels. When you bump it at level 8, you go from stealing 15 life per hit to 20. Getting +2 to each stat or increasing critical damage would be preferred,
Use your armlet more! I know Ed is getting used to using items as he plays more (it's frickin tough, I know.) but it will increase how quickly you farm dramatically. The increased attack speed and damage will help you easily plow through creeps/jungles. Take advantage of this when you aren't pushing.
+1 for the suggestion of Soul Ring on SK. I know it's another item to use, but it's ridiculously useful early on for harassing/stuns/getting mana for your ult.
I have a couple of friends who I'll be teaching DOTA 2 to, and this series will be quite useful for the basics. Thanks GS AU.
@Zaknaifen '+5% lifesteal is garbage'...it's amazing and +your crit you can insta heal harass with 1 crit proc and max lifesteal, starting at 15 is like a free HotD at lvl 1 without the +20 dmg and at lvl 2 close to MoM without bonus attack speed for free and at lvl 4 almost the same amount of life steal as a satanic for free...and another reason why it was pushing was that he was laning against no one...if he was they would have lowered down his creep life as well, and he would then deny so the creeps would pushed less...
@TehIce98 My comment refers to the difference between lvl 1 vampiric aura and level 2; an increase of 5%. At lower levels this is not as beneficial as +2 to all stats, which gives you more HP, Attack Speed/Armor, and Mana. I stated that leaving it at level 1 (around level 8) once you max out his stun would be solid. As for the pushing, the part I was talking about at 10:07 when his creep lane is pushing against 2 heroes, because he leveled up the aura early.
Look, there isn?t going to be a build/strategy that everyone agrees on. Given Ed?s familiarity with melee heroes, it was better for him to level up the aura sooner. The security blanket of survivability that it gives you is useful early on if you?ve run out of regen, so you can maintain your position in lane and don?t miss out on early exp, when it?s very important. Do realize though that this is guaranteed to push your lane, which isn?t what you want if you?re 2v1 and are trying to control the creep wave's location.
1 Like @Zaknaifen uhm lvling the aura skills is realy good early game expecialy against the team he was playing so he can stay in range easyr also to push the tower beter and keeping his own tower alive cause u dont want the enemyes get a buttload of gold because thay raged to the tower early game
@doombones I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on the hero build, but we can certainly all agree on the fact that your grasp on the English language is positively atrocious.

Sadly the horror of the LoL community have left me complete unable to get excited about DOTA 2.
so tired of dota. was tired of it almost 10 years ago too.
Has there ever been a more linear game, or a worse community? so why do we get 5 updates a day about it?
3 Like @Crush_Project i dont find it linear, but i have to agree with the worst community part. In playing dota 2, it has gotten better, (people are more inclined to help a noob, or stay quiet when some one fails a lot.) but there are still far too many a holes playing. I love the game but too many take it far too seriously.
4 Like @Crush_Project It's not linear at all, it's actually pretty dynamic, like a real sport. Sure, you always play the same game one the same field, but it's the teams and the tactics that they apply that make the games interesting. If EA can keep re-releasing the same sports titles every year and still sell hundreds of thousands of copies then Dota clones also have the potential to stay interesting for several years to come.
@nik0la2 thanks for the reply, and you have a point, altho what i was saying with how it was linear is how if you choose a certain hero at the begining of the game thats weak or strong against the other guy or one player starts to win for example and gets a xp edge, theres very little you can do as the player to turn the game around if he doesnt start making mistakes.
@Crush_Project I see what you mean. Then the word you're looking for isn't 'linear' but 'one-sided'. It's true that the game awards good players with xp and gold for killing and punishes bad players with long death times so they can't advance. The game has a brutal learning curve but if you play as a support character in the same lane as a high dps opponent then you asked for it. Every character has a role to fulfill in the team as a whole. Most newcomers are uncommunicative and unorganized so they just pick their favorite hero, rush in and do their own thing as if the don't realize it's a team game. Dota is multiplayer game and as such it's best enjoyed with friends. Since the game is highly anticipated I'm sure you know at least 4 other people who will try the game. Find a team, get organized, devise a strategy and most importantly communicate during the match. After that you'll see that game from a completely different perspective.
I don't know if I can continue watching this episode, it's started off so painful to watch.... do you get better?
@Tevarius It's pretty out there. It's the name of an instrumental track by an Australian band named Regurgitator, who were my favourite band when I was young. There's also the whole dorsal fin on water animals as well, but mainly the band. Also, I seem to get stuck in video game doorways a lot.
1 Like Personal opinion; leo's first item should be soulring. It covers most issues leo has early and mid game.
Gives him improved regen for survivability and harassing capabilities early game.
More importantly, it gives enough mana for leo to activate his ult in case he's used it up or has it drained.
I find that while leo is noob-friendly given that he has 3 passives, the moment they introduced a mana cost to his ult, noobs would rarely activate it as they tend to have bad mana management. Soulring fixes that easily by activating it near death.
@53880 hell yeah i always buy soulring with him or sven or tiny i feel like its the key element early game and lets you abuse your stun only hampered by the short cooldown of said stun
