- "Almost, but not quite"
Dragon Age: Origins was a game I was tracking for a pretty long time. I was pretty excited to get into the game. Overall I was pretty satisfied, but there were some major elements that left me wanting.
I really enjoyed seeing the characters lives unfold in front of me, and I felt this was one of the main positives to the game. Even thought some of the dialogue was pretty dry, most of the characters felt fairly deep, and towards the end of the game I cared about what happened to them. The battle system was pretty fun as well. I played through with most of the different character types, and I thought that the magic user was by far the deepest and had the best end game.
Most of the negatives revolve around the game world. I was really hoping that this would be an open-world game, but really it was just a series of zones on a map. It would have been much more fulfilling traveling from place to place enjoying the scenery. It was not a game breaker, but I felt that this could have really helped out the game in becoming one of my favorites. With the emphasis on the characters, I felt that the overall story lacked a little bit. I was not too drawn into the whole overarching struggle the land was going through. I was more focused on the characters, and how they developed in their own bubbles.
Overall Dragon Age: Origins is a fun game with plenty of things to do. I enjoyed my time with it; however, I do not think I will be revisiting the game again for quite some time. I already have the sequel, Dragon Age 2, but the majority of the professional reviews are pretty mediocre. So, we will see when I crack that game open.
