On the surface, that downward trend doesn't appear to bode well for Sony's latest handheld device. However, speaking to GameSpot at CES 2012, Sony director of hardware marketing John Koller said that PS Vita sales in Japan aren't a concern for the company.
"If you look at the word-of-mouth factor, it's really strong because people are bringing it home and really enjoying it," he said. "That satisfaction rate is really high. But also in terms of when we funnel in additional...
Microsoft's final Consumer Electronics Show press conference on Monday night offered little of interest for gamers. Of the minor announcements made, the Xbox 360 maker confirmed that Kinect for PC would arrive February 1. As part of an interview with GameSpot, Microsoft senior director of marketing and PR Jose Pinero justified this price difference by noting that Kinect for PC is targeted mostly at companies that do not have a gaming interest. He went on to note that the kit comes with software development tools that aid in creating programs for the device.
Pinero also confirmed that Microsoft has no plans to pull out of June's Electronic Entertainment Expo, as it will do with the gadget-focused...

As for the game-specific content, that was anchored by Sony's showing for the PlayStation Vita. Set for release in North America and Europe next month, the PS Vita has sold more than 500,000 units since its Japanese debut in December. Sony followed that stat up with announcements that it had sold 6.5 million systems across all its PlayStation brands over the holidays, including 3.9 million PS3s and 1.6 million PSPs.
Back to the Vita, Sony Corporation executive deputy president Kaz Hirai announced a pair of new services that might be in place for the system's Western launch. First up, Hirai confirmed Sony's own Music Unlimited service for...

Foremost among the night's newsworthy tidbits was a February 1 release date for the Kinect for Windows package. But don't expect to be playing Kinectimals on the ol' desktop just yet. With a price tag of $250, the hardware appears aimed at software developers more than gamers; the Kinect sensor will only work...
LAS VEGAS--There are those who believe that Microsoft will drop the mic in its final 2012 Consumer Electronics Show appearance, after bringing down the house with the first official word of the oft-rumored Next Xbox. This speculation comes despite the Xbox 360 still being the dominant console in North America, from both a hardware and software sales perspective.

LAS VEGAS--Sony Corp.'s 2011 Consumer Electronics Show offered little to get excited about for those of the video game-playing persuasion. Unless, of course, those gamers were also interested in new ways to experience the still-lukewarm 3D movement and the various devices that Sony has crafted to support it.
With Microsoft backing out of CES as of next year, it's possible that Sony will take the opportunity to play a more dominant role in the massive gadget-centric Las Vegas show. While there might be no better way to do that than to stun crowds with a first look at the PlayStation 4, Continue Reading »
