Lead writer Jeffrey Yohalem talks about creating a story that revolves around the game's central mechanic, relates to you on a psychological level, and lets you experience what it means to shoot a gun.
This is THE game I have been waiting for all year. Really enjoyed FC2, but this is looking truly great.
Let's be honest, does anybody here have any idea what this guy was really talking about? I sure don't. I've yet to see how this game is going to be the "definitive shooter". Anybody who's ever worked in the game industry knows that those are some really big words. I really hope that the game itself can back it up.
@rbc13183 I understand what hes talking about, and from the looks of the comments, a lot of other people do too.
Cant wait for this, i loved how imersive FC2 was, the depth of play, the large area of map. The weapons layout and the fact you could start fires and lay IED's. If farcry 3 has bettered FC2 by only half then its going to be an immense game!
Providing you can explore and actually drive along roads without being shot at by EVERYONE then I'll be happy. That was my main gripe with Far Cry 2 :/
After the disappointment of that one I'll be waiting to read gamer reviews before parting with my money.
I would trust the reviews of these 'critics', but to be fair quite a lot of the time us folks on here leaving the comments seem to have a better understanding of things :p
this is the most confusing explanation of a game O_O!! I'll do a degree in psychology and then play the game to see if I understood the whole "experience"! it look's good anyway! :)
i just think that far cry is somehow underrated. i'm not a hardcore fps gamer but i really liked far cry 2.
This is "the shooter"? Bitch please, no matter how good the game will be, we all know it won't beat Crap of Duty
@cynjen CoD of duty is the same 5hit every year. People buy it because they know what to expect and because they do not have to learn too much that's new, all that changes is a few additional weapons, era and location......graphics engine, game play mechanics even weapon sounds and the whole structure of the game do not change! I stopped buying CoD after WaW (which in my opinion is the best CoD ever). I skipped MW2 and got Black ops free when i brought another game, still have not bothered with MW3 and will not bother with BO2 unless someone rents it and brings it round. CoD is a dying breed, soon the sheeple will wake up and see it for themselves.
@mikees1 I agree with you, CoD is just so generic, far cry offers variation ive been put off shooters just because the story is so shit sometimes.. excluding a select few of games, far cry gives me the choice to be silent when i want to or not, its not on rails by what ive seen so far and i like being in control of what i can do.. CoD is just the same shit every year just different character and different enemy everything still stays the same
The main character is an "every man". I'm not sure. He seemed like a frat boy meat head in the trailer.
Hope it's better than 2. Didn't think much of the second entry in the series.
This looks good though. Feels a lot like the new Tomb Raider from the footage and the story.
Also really nice to hear that they're trying to freshen up the very core mechanics.
I had almost given up hope of seeing that sort of thing in big-budget games.
I'm all for new IPs, games like Dishonored, but I just don't think it's going to be as different as it says it is.
I hope Far Cry 3 game better than other series of Far Cry. I think Far Cry 3 very difficult in tactics and combats. If Far Cry 3 is release, I will buy it first. Far Cry 3 is one of my favorite game. I hope that it won't have delayed. I hope Far Cry 3 release in this year
Looking amazing, and I like this lead writer! usually when I see an interview I'm disappointed, they're mostly childish..
Also when he said what he was inspired by, I was sure he was gonna mention the movie " The Beach "
and was the dubstep in the end really necessary? god I hate this new generation's "music"...
This got me thinking about fc2 not that it matters but gamespot gave it a 8.5, been so long since i played it all i could remember was the annoying stuff maybe i didn't give it a fair chance. I might actually grab a used copy and give it another run
I think this game is going to be great, we do need some more psychological shooters that are not just about a guy picking up a gun an shooting a lot of people.
But they better find a good way to progress the main character from an "everyman" to someone who does all that crazy stuff we saw in the video, otherwise they're gonna kill the whole plot of the game.
i agree the xp pop ups have gotta go makes it feel like an arcade shooter imo, i allways keep hope that a good farcry will surface one of these times, i never played the first one i did however play vengence on the wii and i thought it was awefull. I had great expectations for fc2 but that game didn't pan out for me either (too much time spent fixing my car engine, annoying enemy respawns, and trying to look at the map and stay on the road at the same time etc just my opinion) I dont know maybe im getting to picky these days but $60 bucks has become to much for me to just throw at anything, but i guess we'll have to wait and see.
I agree 100%. This xp points is not too good idea. If they want this game to be moody it cannot be CoD-MP-like... I hope it will be changed (or at least optional)
I dont think those points will be in the story/singleplayer campagne . Probably those are some challenges or something , or something to turn on or off.
for some reason i feel that the points that appear when you kill an enemy will bring me out of the emersion the game is trying to create, maybe its just me but i cant take a game seriously when every time i kill someone i get 15 points..... the game looks good though....
This guy has a drug problem the first thing he does when he sees a blue mushroom is eat it. Instead of malaria effects he will probably keep having flashes from a bad trip.
As long as I don't have a malaria attack while in a firefight or some other issue related this game looks like it'll be pretty good.
I think the dubsteb music they put in this game will nicely mirror the awful feeling that comes with killing a human being.
@GhostofWar75 you might be able to relate if you were put in his position. which is what the dev was talking about.
@Vrygar777 Too bad your never going to get Far Cry 1 quality, because that was Crytek.
I hope the storyline doesn't get overhyped like Far Cry 2's story was. Far Cry 2 was supposed to be some "Heart of Darkness" level narrative about the war in Africa, and ended up being pretty lame. I mean, it looks good so far, but usually story becomes backseat to the action in an fps... Well, I hope for the best, Far Cry 2 was still fun regardless. Far Cry 1 was awesome.
@Vrygar777 That will be the case with Far Cry 3- I guarantee it. I feel like these guys seriously have no idea what they're talking about. "It's going to be like Pulp Fiction" wtf? One of the dumbest statements I've heard come out of a game creators mouth. They are basically in way over there head when they try to be cerebral.
Ubi, ffs please do away with that console FOV, it's not 2003 anymore and the world (besides consoles) have grown up. 16:9 widescreen is the norm. I personally don't know anyone who games on a 4:3 monitor/TV. If you can't do it for all platforms, at least make the .ini files easy to access and edit.
Hopefully this game get a Crysis mod so i can play what Crysis 2 should have been in the first place.
This game looks pretty good. And it sounds like they might have gotten Current Value to do some of the music.
He keeps talking about how the game makes shooting/killing serious and realistic and not something that can be done easily like in other games, yet every time an NPC gets shot, we get 10 points!? Seems counter-intuitive to me.
@Masterbmw I saw that too. I hope there's a hook for that. There must be a reason for achieving those points, right?
This looks great. If the developers can manage to develop the story and emotions talked about, this could be one of the greatest FPS shooters in a long while. Very excited about this. Graphics look amazing.
