Systems that run Battlefield 2 without a hitch will likely need few modifications to keep up with Battlefield 2142. But if you're on an older rig, you might need to upgrade a few parts. The two games are largely the same, but DICE gave 2142 a slightly updated graphical engine that has new animations and updated shaders.

We tested Battlefield 2142 using FRAPs and a 25-second driving scenario in the 48-person Suez Canal map. The frame rate results were consistent, but the numbers might be on the high side since the test doesn't include a lot of player models. We didn't play on populated servers or against other bots to keep our tests reproducible. The game also has a built-in frame rate cap of 100 frames per second. We increased graphics settings for our more powerful hardware to keep frame rates below the cap.

Game Settings
Battlefield 2142 has a few settings you can tweak to improve performance. We tested all the options to find out how much each setting affected frame-rate performance.

Graphics
Battlefield 2142 is based on the now-aging Battlefield 2 engine, which means it should run fine on moderate hardware. But if you're thinking of upgrading, we tested nearly 20 video cards to help you determine how much performance is enough.

CPU
We tested the game up and down the clock-speed ladder on our Intel Core 2 Duo and AMD Athlon 64 CPU-based systems. We even brought in some single core CPUs to see how they performed.

Memory
Moving up from 512MB to 1GB of system memory will help improve performance in most PC games. But it seems that even 2GB of RAM will give noticeable performance gains with Battlefield 2142.

    My Comp: (not the best, but OK)
    -Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.13Ghz
    -256MB nVidia GForce 7500LE
    -2GB RAM
    -600GB 7200RPM HDD

    I play the game on medium graphics and it works just fine. It will work on full graphics, but there is about 5fps with that setting.

    this is a good game there is a code to unlock the frame rate but ill have to search for it im the Clan leader of +BLM+ clan and ConFliction mod team leader depending on wat your running even on the fastest system to perform better you need the extra fps set all graphics to low and turn enhanced lighting effect offset sound qaulkity to high and hit rego will favour you

    also dont worry 1 gig will run it fine make sure your procesors arent running crap in background
    eg msn xfire and sum mate stealing your porn while online LOL and turn your firewall off unless its a avast firewall style xp doesnt like bf242 and does cause it to crash

    mainboard x86. Microsoft Windows XP Professional,2 GiG of ram,Sapphirre ATI Radeon X1550 256MB DDR2 DVI/HDTV AGP.will my system play 2142?i current ly barely run 2142 on the same system using a once good but old ATI Radeon 9600 / X1050 Series

    Im using All High Settings in this game.
    What can I say is, like im playing the old game. It's just fine, no Graphical Problems.

    Thanks for the heads up. I've got a nVidia GeForce 8500(512MB). It makes Oblivion look close to the XBox360 version. I own both versions. I'm upgrading to a 9600 in a few weeks. 8800 is cool, but it's a resource hog-it needs 1GB RAM. 9600 isn't as powerful, but only uses 512MB RAM. I've got 2GB RAM and Vista uses 400+MB RAM.

    with an ati radeon 2600 hd pro i can run it at 1280 by 960 at max setting with AA off and enhanced lighting off. enhanced lighting makes no difference at all so it just uses up pointless frames per second.

    I've played this game on a FX5200, 6600GT, a 7900GS and a 8800GTX with 512MB, 1GB and 2GB RAM.
    Depending on how old your graphics card is the less frames you will get.

    BUT!

    The RAM made a big difference. (On the 7900GS PCI-e)
    512MB - choppy sound and constant visual lag (regardless of card used)
    1GB - choppy sound only in high action (like orbital strike) + some visual lag
    2GB - close to no lag visual or audio

    For:
    Gefore7 above put on high if you have 7800+ or med/high(custom) if its 7600or below Geforce 6 med
    geforce 5 Low
    (similar for equivlent ATi cards)
    I suggest using at least 1GB because then you can actually kill people

    **to see in game FPS use: renderer.drawFps 1 on the console by taing the key just below ESC

    MY 7600GS has a lot of trouble with this game. I cannot get the graphics on decent, even with 800x600, and keep playable frame rates. The view distance becomes horrible and I don't even play because the game looks so bad. Anyone else had this problem, I should be able to run it on decent graphics but it just wont happen.

    Since it's an X2 it has two 1.73GHz, two 1mb caches etc.
    What settings do you suggest running 2142 on it with?

    Dragoon45 I think you should be able to run it on it's highest settings, but I think you should run it with 2xAA. Your graphics card is about the equivalent to a 7600GT (except that yours has DX10 support). In the benchmarks it says they got 37fps on the 7600GT on high quality with 4xAA and 4xAF, but they have a faster processor, and their RAM has better latencys and runs at a higher clock speed (although the performance difference because of that will be minimal). So I would suggest your run it with 2xAA and maybe some stuff on medium, just so it doesn't bog down in bigger battles (it can get hectic in 64 player games!).

    My LAPTOP runs a AMD Turion 64X2, 2gb of RAM, a 559mb nvidia gforce 7150m.
    It goes on 1.9GHz/ 1600MHz.
    I have Btllfield 2142 haven't tried it yet, what do any of you think?

    I'm wondering if my laptop can run it. Specs:
    Core 2 duo Merom T7500 2.2ghz
    Geforce 8600mgt (crippled due to it having gddr2)
    2GB mushkin ram 667mhz
    Windows xp
    I really want to be able to play the game on the highest settings at 1280x800, with 4xAF and 4xAA. The reason why I'm skeptical is because of how crippled the 8600mgt is since it was given gddr2 and not gddr3. Memory clock is 400mhz and gddr3 memory clock is 700mhz (talking in actual clock, not effective clock).

    With the low settings also i get lags a lot since my Graphics card is old so need to upgrade that part & Memory too.It works fine at Single Player Or LAN mode Except Online.I am to buy a new pc by next year.Upgrade:-
    Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor QX6850 Graphics Card: GeForce 8800 Ultra
    Memory: 4 GB RAM
    I hope these requirments must be good enough than the minimum requirements of this game to run the game with hitch - free at all especially online.

    Remember that Battlefield 2142 does NOT support dual core CPUs.

    If you have a 1.8 dual core processor it will only use 1.8ghz of processor power - resulting in a bad gameplay experiance.

    Im running a P4 3.2 ghz and 1 gb of ram in 4 256MB chips but i just bought Ascentive WinRocket and optimized it for games and it runs a hella lot better, almost no lag. Guys get WIN ROCKET from ASCENTIVE it pwnes HC. I just bought 2 gigs of Corsair XMS2 ram and i hope it improves the game play cus I got really bad sound lag when the computer starts to say stuff like "Hostile Infantry" and "Medic" stuff like that sounds choppy. But overall great program WinRocket and all hail the EU.

    nvm dont answer. it plays pretty well for a intergrated card.
    amd 3800+ 2.4ghz
    1256mb ram
    6150LE video card and i can play at medim settings fine but slows when a explosion happens but it runs smooth at low and medium settings at 800x600 res

    running the game graphics on medium preset processor: AMD ATHLON 3300 2.0 GHz RAM: 1.25GB ( 1 gig stick with 256mb in second slot)

    Mine runs medium - high. If I make everything high it runs fine but only the loading takes ages.
    I have an AMD ATHLON X2 DUAL CORE at about 2.4 GHz
    2 GB of RAM (just upgraded it from 1gig)
    Nvidia 8600 GT

    Mine just runs fine... except for when i installed windows vista! P4 3.2 GHZ HT, 1GB RAM, 6800XT 512MB DDR3, Seagate Baracuda HDD... i dont think anything else counts...

    stefan_vaziri ....i don't think your card can even run this game because i THINK it takes a 9500 to run it(my previous had a 9550) and it ran at.....20-30fps...omg talk about lag...think about getting a new machine cuz i just ordered a comp with

    Runs on rails. Asus hardware remains the premium system hardware for stability and performance without needing to be a full techy.

    1600x1200, everything on high and Mid AA. I have not seen the FPS, but the picture remains smooth as silk, no matter how much action is going on on the screen.

    Athlon 64 3000+ @ 2.5ghz, 1GB ddr-400, 7950gt OCed. In SP i can get 60FPS @ 1680*1050 with pretty much everything on high and some AA. But when i go into MP i can't get more than 30 IDK if it's my slow internet (300kbps DSL) or if i need more RAM or what? In order to play it smoothly online i have to drop to 1024*768 or whatever the default res. is.

    Won00b nice setup, you ill be running this game awesome, personally I think you should O/C your cpu though, all the C2D CPUs are great for overclocking, you should be able to get it to around 3.00GHz with stock cooling.

    Well, I just upgraded:
    Core 2 Duo E6700 2.6
    BFG 8800 GTX
    4 Gigs RAM

    But on older rigs, I found that it helped to jack the resolution up to maximum, but keep everything else on the lowest setting (fool around with view distance, for optimum performance and view).

    Far from the best, but more than playable on mediumish settings at 1024x768 res. I say mediumish because I was able to jack the Texture Filtering to its max value., and draw distance is at max.
