Dragon Dogma for me is the most interesting between the 2 games (by FAR), but my brother wil buy GRFS,so we'll have both games anyway
Future-set shooter and fantasy action role-playing at retail next week, but which one is more interesting to GameSpot readers, and for which system?
High technology and high fantasy will square off at retailers next week as Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Capcom's Dragon's Dogma both hit store shelves Tuesday, May 22. While we likely won't know for weeks which game did better when it comes to sales, an unscientific sampling of GameSpot user behavior can give some insight into which game has most captured the audience's attention, and on which platform.
The following list shows all the games we believe are going to launch next week, as pulled from publisher announcements, retailer release lists, and other information. We've listed them in order based on the total number of GameSpot users following each title on each platform, as of Thursday, May 17. Every game-specific page on the site has a "Follow" button under the box art that registered users can click to receive updates about the games they care about whenever there's new content posted, so it provides some indication as to focused user interest surrounding a specific title.
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier leads the pack this week, as Ubisoft's squad-based shooter attracted nearly 10,000 followers between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. Interestingly, the Xbox 360 version has attracted more than twice as many followers as its PS3 counterpart.
That might speak to the genre preferences of Xbox 360 players, as the next games on the list, the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of Dragon's Dogma, have a very different breakdown of followers between the platforms. The Xbox 360 edition of Dragon's Dogma still boasts more followers than the PS3 edition, but only by a slim margin. Capcom's fantasy role-playing game might have attracted more followers if it had as much time to gather them as Ghost Recon. While Dragon's Dogma was originally announced barely a year ago, Ubisoft's oft-delayed shooter was originally unveiled in February of 2010.
Another long-awaited game rounded out the top five as Sony's PlayStation Move project Sorcery attracted more than 1,113 followers. Since its unveiling at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo, the game has been one of the most gamer-oriented projects for the motion-sensing peripheral. Designed for a "hardcore" audience, the game features a combat system allowing for spell combos and also incorporates gesture-based puzzles into the gameplay.
Elsewhere on the chart, Nintendo's Mario Tennis Open for the 3DS was perhaps surprisingly trumped by Deep Silver's PC strategy wargame Iron Front - Liberation 1944. Meanwhile, movie tie-ins seemed to suffer for followers, as Activision's multiplatform Men in Black: Alien Crisis topped out at 55 followers for the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions, the same peak follower number for Activision's various Battleship adaptations reached last week.
1. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier--X360--6,786 followers--May 22

15. EVE Online: Inferno--PC--2 followers--May 22
16. Purr Pals Purrfection--3DS--2 followers--May 22
Getting GRFS but also getting Dragon Dogma.
Waste time playing Dragon Dogma since its open world and it doesnt get boring as quickly once get into it.
Shooter games are all the same
Dragons Dogma for 360 all the way! Preordered and will be playing as soon as I get back from work tomorrow...Gotta say, it might be a sleeper hit even though Capcom was the publisher. Gonna be looking forward to the 60+ hours of gameplay... just for 1 character :D
I looked up Dragon's Dogma a while back and if it's going to be a great game, then the trailers sure don't do it justice. I know idk much about it but I think I'd take a Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning or a Diablo III any day of the week over that.
As for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, looks amazing. I will be attending the midnight release of that one. It'll be the first TPS that I've ever been to the midnight release for though, lol.
@smokeless_0225 Going to the GRAW midnight release to pick up my preorder for dragons dogma. You could've played the demo to Dragons Dogma instead of judging it by the trailers.
Getting both... Played the GRFS MP Beta and enjoyed it and Played the Dragon's Dogma Demo and enjoyed it, so between the two I should be all tied up for the next few days deliberating amongst myself as to which is "better".
Gonna be hard to compare 2 games that aren't even in the same class.
Mixed reviews on Dragons Dogma. But the bad or average ratings are actual laughable and in most parts shows how the gamers standard is becoming very streamlined so that if it doesnt play exactly like 40 other games it gets a bad review.
Like some of the things they hated, actually sound fun and a change of pace from the cliche RPGs we see today. Im a little worried about maybe the quests being boring. But check out IGNs review. Named like 15 amazing features and 1 graphical problem and 1 plot issu. 7.5. Makes no sense.
Well going for midnight release of dragons dogma see you guys in cassardis, don't lose your heart Lol. If your interested in trading pawns my systems ps3 id Damarcosg, happy hunting :)
well, just yesterday i've been playing Dragon's Dogma Demo, well, it's a good game, but not that special, but we already have a lot of good RPG games! and... you know.. it's the Crapcom who's doing this game... you can wait for some Super-Dooper-Special-hearted-Dragon-ultimate-Oni, where the DLC is already on the disc...
On the other side, we've got a new Ghost Recon, in a time where we almost don't see nice TPS really good and tactical! and it's Ubisoft, they really know what they do, Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, only great games, and on this one they're working to do a great game! i'll buy the GRFS!
I'm starting to think people don't know what a Third Person Shooter is......can't wait for Ghosts though! Wish a review would come out somewhere so I could so how big the game actually is before I buy it.
I would have been a lot more interested in Dragon's Dogma than Ghost Recon: Future Soldier if Dragon's Dogma was getting released for the PC.
Dark Souls is going to be released for the PC so I'm hoping the same thing happens for Dragon's Dogma too.
I can't stand playing shooters on a console, I'm no good with the thumb sticks. Prefer RPGs in general but there's nothing quite like a good shooter on PC
when it comes to a toss up between a good rpg and a shooter, i'll always go with the rpg...
.... let me emphasize the "GOOD" part.
we'll see dragon's dogma... we'll see.
Dragons dogma is more similar to the game infinite discovery if anybody remembers that than it is too dark souls. the only thing similar to dark souls is the way you hold your shield up
@armedvigilante dragons dogma is an free roam rpg. infinite discovery is a linear rpg similiar to Final fantasy.
dragons dogma will get at least an 8, its alot like "Monster hunter tri". will be well worth the time of any fan of rpg's. Ghost recon is a cant miss also 8.5 at least. Both games will fair quite well.
I'm not that interested in either game. Another FPS with a campaign of 6 hours isn't among my interests and as was said before the Dragon's Dogma demo was quite bad. The game might be much better, but until I see some good review scores, I'm not plunking down $60. It will probably be $30 in 2 months.
@mulder_000 Graw is a tactical third person shooter first off....second no one knows how long the GRAW campaign actually is yet until tomorrow...but with both a single and multiplayer campaign it may be...8-12 hours...maybe.
@mulder_000 have a bad feel for games then. dragons dogma will do well
This is a shooter im excited about. who said the campian was 6hr? where did you get your info? funny the games not out yet. anyway... id gladly pay 60 for it, ill play both cmapain and mp. as far as shooters needing a change, its cod that needs a change. mw3 should have been dlc called mw 2.5. Epic fail. People even bought the elite bs. suckers. enjoy them maps while you can, when the elite subs up you wont be able to access the maps. womp womp. I dont think well see a huge change in fps games untill the next gen consoles have been released. we have already seen the best that a xbox and ps3 can be.
I'm excited for ghost recon but to be honest most of these modern military shooters are getting too similar. I feel like the genre is getting bland for FPS's; I miss games like HL2 that gave you more than just a fire arm to work with. I think if the market keeps chasing the same modern military games we're gonna experience a lack of growth and creativity that the market's gonna get used to. Keep in mind I'm typing all this in between rounds of CoD, but I just want more than a 5 hour story mode and a multi-player experience that hasn't changed very much since CS.
wanted to like dragon's dogma, put off by the demo. I wondered for some time why there weren't more games trying to do the demons souls, dark souls thing and I commend it for taking a stab at that but annoying npc's and weak gameplay, comes off as a pale imitation of better titles from the demo I played. so uh ghost recon I guess.
@flaxgrass there are some interesting gameplay videos online from Dragon's Dogma, seeing as the demo was a bit limited.
im tired of shooters , got max payne and playing BF3 to bits.
DD caught me by suprise , some positive reviews comming through , it looks like a day one purchase from what ive seen . ps. im glad its not like dark souls.
It depends on the reviews for me. Either of these games could flop, though I can't say which is more likely to.
I'll definitely get one copy of both games, DD for PS3 and GR for PC. It would be nice if they bring up DD for PC as well.:)
DD for xbox, I'll wait on Ghost Recon, not sure about that, I heard some wonky things about the multiplayer.
Dragons dogma looks great i wonder but i doubt it could surpass dark souls im definitely getting it for ps3
Me i never liked dark souls.just didn`t feel right to me.at that time i bought dragon age instead.when i buy a game i check the game out as much as possible to see if i like it.
@Busta_Cap_Killa it borrows a lot from Demon's souls but falls well short in the combat department. seems to have good graphics but critics are at odds whether DD doesn't have shallow gameplay. people are saying it looks like souls games, skyrim, monster hunter, even shadow of the colossus, and it does a good job of temporarily resembling those titles in ads anyway but plays nothing like any of them and comparison not really merited except they borrow from the art style.
@flaxgrass IGN, Game Informer, and OXM UK gave it an 8.5 in Gameplay... but IGN gave it a 7.5 overall. So I dunno where you are coming from that critics are divided about gameplay the big issues with the game is technical and narrative...but all agreed on amazing combat mechanics and customization.
@DredWulfgames: Its world isn't as evocatively rich as Skyrim, it's action-oriented combat doesn't have the killer appeal of Dark Souls, and it's single-player focus is completely at odds with the co-op-centric Monster Hunter.
playstation official magazine: If you were in a bad mood, you could hang Dragon's Dogma out to dry for its clumsy camera and controls, simplistic warrior-rogue-mage class choice, shallow combat and bad dialogue
eurogamer: Combat doesn't have the weight or grace of Dark Souls' approach, and the lack of a lock-on button ensures you'll be wrestling with the camera just as often as you try to hang on the back of a writhing giant. But Capcom's action game expertise elevates the fighting above many of its straight RPG peers.
honestly sounds like a decent 7/10 rpg depending who you ask, I might pick it up in a year or so, I mean there's not much on the horizon so this might get more attention than it deserves credit them for releasing it during a dry spell.
@Busta_Cap_Killa I see your point but one of the defining differences between them is that DD has a narrative story while DKS was mostly environmental interaction. Both great games with DKS in some ways better cause it was an innovation at its time, but that shouldn't holster your interest on DD. Think about like adding to your collection of great rpg's :). or you can wait for GS review of the game.
@Busta_Cap_Killa But those two games are nothing alike, and I don't even care for DD.
My last shooter was BF3 caused personally I'm tired of shooters, It's like eating Mcdonalds for 1 months straight. I played the demo of dragons dogma and it was great, The point you can create your player and pawn on the demo before release was convenient, this way i can just jump into the action cause i have usually have a tendency to make very detailed and time consuming players. For anybody getting Dragons dogma my system is ps3 and id Damarcosg if your interested in trading pawns.
@DamacosG Im interested in trading pawns. My pawn will be a Magic Archer if your interested and my psn is CrownClown_
i`ll keep that in mind :) but boils down how your making your pawn though
@resident_jisen Well my player and pawn creation is already complete, but im leaning to creating a mage pawn for magic and healing support for the melee savvy masses LOL.
