Stop right there criminal scum. Our The Elders Scrolls V Skyrim Walkthrough provides strategies for the main quest, crafting tips, and secrets about guilds.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

Joining the Legion or Stormcloaks

You've got your own problems being Dragonborn and all, but for the rest of Skyrim war looms in the horizon. You can choose to take sides in this civil war by joining either the Legion in Solitude or Stormcloaks in Windhelm. The majority of events and fight are either identical or take place within the same area. However, there are still a few unique situations for members of either camp.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

To join up, head to the respective headquarters and talk to the second in command: Legate Rikke in Solitude or Galmar Stone-Fist in Windhelm. Both of them won't simply let you in; you need to prove your worth. Galmar's task is the easier of the two: head to the Serpent Stone in the far northeast and kill a single Ice Wraith. You can easily fast travel to Winterhold and walk a short distance to find this location.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

The slightly tougher battle is Rikke's assignment of clearing Fort Hraggstad, which sits west of Solitude. The majority of enemies here are low defense Bandits. For the most party, a single follower is all you need to quickly wipe out the enemies in the courtyard. It helps even more if you can conjure up a summon or Call of Valor a hero to your side. Otherwise Fire Breath is well suited to stun the crowds of enemies. After clearing out the courtyard you'll also need to kill the Bandits inside the Prison on the right of the entrance, as well as anyone inside the main fort. The hardest enemy you'll encounter will probably be the Bandit Chief who wears steel plate armor. It's best to let your follower tank this enemy while you attack from behind.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

After completing either task, join up with your faction and take an oath of service. Congratulations, you just failed joining the other side (as the game will note for you twice). Anyway your first task for either is to recover the Jagged Crown. Yup, this mission is the same for both Legion and Stormcloak members. Head over to Korvanjund, which is south of the Dwarven Labs at Alftand and Tower of Mzark.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

Meet up with Rikke/Galmar and they issue your orders to storm the ruins. You have enough allies that you don't need to worry too much about the opposing forces. Try to go for the far off archers while your allies distract the close range fighters.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

Inside the temple the enemy forces won't have spotted you just yet. Take this time to sneak and get in at least one critical hit or shot. For the most party, stay with your faction and don't charge too far ahead. As a clustered team, you can quickly overpower smaller groups of Legion/Stormcloak enemies.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

Inside the Halls of Korvanjund most of the enemies will be undead Draugr, but there are still a few wartime enemies wondering about. Not north through the second level and to the west will be a chest behind a swinging puzzle. You can dash through or use Whirlwind sprint to get by easily. We only found potions inside, but master thieves might have better luck. Return north and you'll come to an Ebony Claw laying on the ground. Line up the circles ahead in the order of wolf, butterfly, and dragon to move forward.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

For this next area, the main gate is locked. Head through the northern door to reach the second level and hit the switch on the other side of the room. This will open the gate, but also summon more undead enemies. Concentrate on clearing the weaker enemies before taking on the stronger Restless Draugrs. Your allies should make short work of most of the enemies either way. Once the room is clear, head through the main gate.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

In this area is the Draugr Deathlord. He hits very hard and has a shout that can disarm you. To avoid this stun him quickly with your own Unrelenting Force or Fire Breath. Also let Rikke/Galmar rush in and take tanking duty. If you attack the Deathlord fast enough, you can weaken him or out right kill before his calls in support from his Scourges. These enemies will eventually enter, but if the Deathlord is already dead they can be dealt with quickly.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

Loot the Deathlord to gain the Jagged Crown. Before exiting the temple head south and you'll gain a new world of power: Time. This word of power can be used to make the Slow Time shout, which isn't very useful as it slows you down as well. Once done inside, head to your army's capital and delivery the Jagged Crown to Ulfric/Tullius.

Okay so, I don't know if anyone's answered this or not, but.... If the whole point of this scene is to go through all this sh*t & get fighting experience, then discover the horn ISN'T actually there and you actually have to go to Riverwood to retrieve it....

Can't you just skip this scene altogether and just go right on over to Riverwood? Or is something crucial supposed to happen (besides loot stuff & fighting skills) that you cannot miss?

Just someone please tell me if I can skip it & just go to Riverwood, or if I HAVE to complete this part.

Start a new character and in the first house that you can get your first weapons, the NPC that helps you, waits for you to take a key from 1 dead soldier and open the door..... DONT open the door, go in sneak/stealth mode and backstab him as much as you want.... He does NOT die..... I left there with 44 level 1 handed weapons and 100 level sneak. Character level about 18.  I could wait more to get 1 handed weapons in 100 but i got bored..... ^^

+It's only 50 gold to get to Solitude from Whiterun, and if u don't have 50 gold, then u r spending waaaaayy too much, and only doing the main quest

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there meant to be a word wall in this dungeon? This guide misses out on the shout so I was just wondering if this is a foolish mistake or what?

How do you put spells or souls into your weapons? I just started playing the game, and all the stuff that can be done is a little overwhelming.

slipweav2k
slipweav2k

@YariStar find an enchanting table, there you can break enchanted weapons or clothes or jewelry etc. you break these items to learn the spell, after a spell is learned you can use the table to enchant you own belongings, as long as you have filled soul gems, the bigger the soul gem the more powerful the spell will be. to fill soul gems you need a soul trap spell or a weapon with soul trap capabilities, the bigger the creature the bigger the soul.

Do you have to finish the main quests before going to side quests? or is it just better to finish them first?

hmoobpaladin
hmoobpaladin

@lolgamer73 No, you can finish the main quest and do the sidequests if you want. I always do sidequests first before finishing the main story. It's up to you. Not sure if there are any missable sidequests for completing the main quest first.

OK, don't laugh, please. but I can't figure out how to use the PS3 controls to take and then equip objects. Some of them just "follow" me and I don't know how to pick them up. Some of them make it to my inventory but some don't. What buttons do I push to get this stuff? Before you think I'm stupid, I'm not, I'm just a LittleOldLadyGamer that hasn't forgotten her inner child :)

hmoobpaladin
hmoobpaladin

@lolgamer73 You can't equip objects. Only weapons, armor, rings and necklaces. You can pick up objects by pressing X or drag them around by clicking R3.

Hi guys, I just got Skyrim yesterday and it's a cool game but I seem to be stuck at one section in the golden claw part and it's annoying the hell out of me! When I get to the chest at the end of the tunnel where I've slashed up all the undead dudes and got past the spike door and the swinging blades I pull that chain that opens the iron gate over the stream and then I can only go a few meters into the cave and I get blocked by a heaps of rocks in the way that wont let me go any further. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something that I've missed that makes the game do that? Any help would be awesome! Cheers.

where can i find and enchanted armor, or apparel item ; boots , necklace, shield ; etc. enchanted with firewalker that i can break. my character is a vampire, and i need fire resistance on my armor.

slipweav2k
slipweav2k

@jolene26 just enchant your own armor, you have to disenchant something with the effect first(to learn it), your skills will improve, as will your enchantment, the more you use the enchantment tables.

slipweav2k
slipweav2k

@jolene26 sorry i didnt read you question properly, there is a theft merchant at the college of winterhold that had a necklace that had 30% fire resistance, hope that helps

Doing "In My Time of Need" quest where I need to talk to Alik'r prisoner in jail. Apparently need to unlock the jail cell in order to talk to the prisoner. I have pickpocketed 4 jail keys from guards, but at cell door I keep getting the message that I need a key. What am I overlooking or doing wrong?

Who the Hell is Drelas and why is he trying to kill me?!? I'm quite a way into the game and don't remember how I might have slighted this fellow, but he surely wants me dead and I can't figure out why.

Papajack55
Papajack55

@Lantazan  Drelas is a wizard who has a cottage and if you find him, he tries to kill you with magicka powers. If you kill him though, you inherit his cottage. If there are things that still say "steal," which they shouldn't, unless he's still alive. I was stumbling around and came across his cottage and he tried to kill me, so I zapped him dead with my shout of fire. I instantly got his cottage. You will officially have another home.

Lantazan

.......maybe because I just went busting into his house on a rainy afternoon, but I remember that guy's name from somewhere and the quest log has no record.

I'm stuck on a side quest for words of power.  The area that is stoping me is a riddle of sorts from "the four totums" or something like that.  the door I need to go through is locked and the only way to get to the other side tis to solve the riddle.  The totums must be activated in order.   Each totum has an animal on it's face.

The animals are as follows:  Fox, Wolf, Bear, and Snake.  (Not Nessessarily in that Order).

The Riddle goes something like this:  The first fears all: the Second fears none.  The third will eat the first  and the forth when allone fears the second.  Again I'm not positive agout the exact wording but this ai all I have.  Could someone please give me the correct order for this riddle.

Thanks,  Game_Bastard
