No Steam, no sale. This is clearly just Square trying to cut the middlemen out, and it's going to blow up in their face.

Hm, yes and no. It might end badly in that they lose a lot of potential sales, but if it's essentially just a patched version of the existing PC game they don't have much invested in it. It'll bring in people who don't normally play PC games, giving them a chance to publicize their own store to people who don't already have a preference towards Steam.

They've already got most of their modern PC releases on Steam. From the Eidos stuff, to their own stuff like The Last Remnant.

They'd be absolutely ridiculous to drop Steam now. The difference between releasing this on Steam and not releasing this on Steam is between selling around 12,000 copies, or selling over a million copies.

Square thinks that by cutting out every digital distribution service, they can get the same sales, but with 100% of the profits. Problem being that when you don't have these arms selling your stuff, you're not getting the same promotion and exposure that you normally would. It kind of makes you wonder just how out of touch Square really is.

    Character booster?!!

    *Fist slam.*

Have you all lost your spine?!!

If it can't run well on PC, then it wasn't worth playing.
I'm just saying what I know you're thinking.

    Really...I'm Solid Sonic...

Gotta say, that booster part could be the stupidest thing I've ever seen listed as a 'feature' for a game release.

Achievements and character boosters? Ugh...I'll stick to the original release, thanks.

Heroes don't need plans...just lots upon lots of HP

If you don't want to use the boosters then don't, I won't be.

The reason I will be buying this game is because of the re-optimization for dx9, running the original is just a pain with a new rig.

HAHAHAHA. You honestly think that with the armies and legions of FFV VII fans out there, having the game available on Steam will have that big of an impact?

No way. Won't even make a dent.

This probably puts me in a lame minority, but the character boosting is a huge plus for me. I loved FF7, but I wouldn't have the time to go through as in depth as I did back in '97. I have fond memories of flipping through my worn out Ultimate FF7 guide, raising chocobos, trying to master materia and get really interesting effects when combining them, fighting the weapons, etc. But, I just don't have as much time to play games solo as I once did, so I'd probably only get through <10% of a straight re-release.

With the boosting, I could [seemingly] just buy it and basically play it with God mode on just to essentially give myself a superspeed walk down memory lane, which is all I'd really be looking to get out of a older game at this point.

If it were over steam, I'd skip it. I'm not installing that weirdo crap on my computer, I don't care what game it is.

    I'm interested.

I don't care, Im getting it. They're at least bumping up resolution, why else would we need a 2 ghz processor and 1 gb ram to run something i played at 256mb ram back in the day? Hell, makes me wonder if they will tweak the fps. I've tried modding to a superior fail, it was easier pulling my hair out. Fans want a remake, people will just choke from yesterdays air(not that many will understand that metaphor). I support new ideas.

Because to give accurate system requirements would mean extensive testing on hardware that's they can't easily obtain, and officially support both the outdated hardware and the obsolete operating system running on it. Don't pay too much attention to the requirements for such low-end games, think of it more as "this is what we expect your crappy computer to have before we can be bothered offering you technical support"
It might push the requirements up if they support higher resolutions, but if they were really going to improve things you'd think they would show that in the trailer.

Well, they're pretty smart. Since cloud saving would keep your save on their server, you wouldn't be able to access it to edit.

But this is all assuming that the booster IS a microtransaction.

I would assume it's not a microtransaction, but that just might be optimism. Devs these days don't really do that, do they? Well, other than F2P games. I would also hope that the cloud saves aren't mandatory, since that effectively means that no internet = no play.
