You're on the home stretch now. I actually didn't save in Siren park and didn't have too much trouble with the 3 way fight. Curious to see if you can make a substantial improvement there, as I just went back and forth taking each one's health down. I used vanille as a sab mostly -- poison helps quite a bit if you can get it on both.

Interesting choice with Snow's crystarium. I went all sentinel, for the 2nd acc slot and the 5th atb bar. Another rav attack is probably better than the role levels, vigor, overwhelm etc. Also, you can put auto-protect and black belt on him and he'll have more like 2600 hp than 2100. I think I finished under a minute, not that its any big deal. What's up with the "rumored 6:30 run" that grampaglasses mentioned on your page? I believe it, for what its worth, but hadn't heard that before.

I went for rav to chain faster. I usually finished the battle in under a minute but I had bad luck on the recorded attempt. I saved in Siren Park because of the first battle is annoying to avoid sometimes and to shorten the segment a bit. For the 3way I took the Tyrant out first then the Vernal Harvester. Doing it that way you run the risk of Fang failing to launch him though. What was your time? Mine was around a minute.

I don't know what this "rumored 6:30 run" is.

    Save before PC2 : 5:57:46
    Save before B+J : 6:08:12

Hopefully I will be able to finish this run this weekend. I must have miscalculated I don't need drops from the Adamanchelid or the dogs. I can also pick up 5k and 3k gil chests in between Wladi and Tiamat.

    Save before Wladi : 6:12:25
    Save before Tiamat : 6:17:01
    Final Save : 6:21:35

For Jabberwocky and Bandersnatch I had Vanille rav instead of trying to debuff. My time was 1:22. Wladislaus took 22 secs. I had a real lucky Tiamat battle I took off around 3/4 of his health in the first stagger. Time was 2:01.

Addict -- Not sure if you know or not, but in the back right corner of the big square area where you have to walk up the ramps to get to Tiamat, there's a semi-hidden elevator that will take you up past the elite / wladislaus encounter and drop you right in front of the two dogs. You skip the 5k and 3k chests but it saves quite a bit of time, and a deceptisol usage. Something to consider if you didn't do that already.

6:21....gee, i hope the final bosses can be beaten in 9 minutes.
And have you guys really forgotten the 6:30 thing a while back? There was a link to it and everything....
  • Dec 17, 2011 4:19 pm GMT
Unfortunately I was 15 seconds too slow. Final time was 6:30:15. Bart 3 took 1:31. He was real annoying with his Ultima killing someone 90% the time. Orphan took 3:14. I had to reset several times here because of Progentitorial Wrath or Dies Irae. Orphan 2 took 1:35. He screwed me up with Necrosis on Sazh but it took me a couple hours just to get here due to Ultima, Progenitorial Wrath and Dies Irae.

I did not know about that elevator, but I don't really feel like redoing it.

You asked me if I would submit my run to SDA. I probably will. I don't remember a 6:30 run. I remember a link about a 7:21 run and a 6:47 run but not a 6:30 run.

Nice job addict -- looks like you hit the jackpot on Tiamat, he solo targeted vanille which helps keep the buffs on. That doesn't happen often.

Just an FYI, but not taking the elevator before Tiamat cost you about 1:15 in time. If there is a "6:30" run and you want to come under it, there's your easy way to get there.

I'm done with this game. Looking forward to FF13-2. Hope this thread doesn't die, but it looks like it will now that Addict has finished up.

Oooh, no. Thre is still one thing we haven't done yet.

    Single segment.
  • Dec 18, 2011 6:56 pm GMT
Yeah I'm pumped for 13-2 as well. I'm hoping maybe after a run or two through it I may be inspired to try the speed run on here before doing crazy challenges on 13-2. Just depends on what it's like I guess. But I hope the thread doesn't die either.

I'm looking forward to a 3 Role Challenge in XIII-2! It would be like recreating this game - I personally like being forced to use only three roles per character, hence why I like main game better than post game.

I think it would also be fun to make Serah and Noel divide the six roles evenly - or push it even further and divide the six roles evenly amount monster, and two characters . . . Sounds fun? It does to me The first one rather than the last more so.

Any other challenge ideas? A cumulative level max for all the roles of a character? An even leveling challenge, where your first priority is to unlock all the roles, then you have to level each role evenly so that all roles are always the same level after you reach the point of being able to do so?

    No weapon/accessories is basic ideas.

    Any other ideas?

MFO would be impossible I think, due to the only forced fights being bosses, and bosses give very little CP (from what I seem) compared to FFXIII. Also, it would make it near impossible to get monsters, except for the rare forced encounters against normal enemies. You have Cait Sith forced on you, I think, and I know there is one story battle in Augusta tower. Of course, there are probably many more, we will know once we are able to play it.

I'm soooo looking forward to this

Speed Run of Final Fantasy XIII - 9:58:01. Still trying to work it down to under 9.

I've done almost no reading on ff13-2. I like to play new games without help as much as possible the first time, but it does sound like there will be interesting new features to what, IMO, is a great battle system.

With regards to a single segment run, that's really a matter of time since you can't lose. Even adding a no retry to it wouldn't be all that bad except for orphan 1. Given that the speed run only takes 6-7 hours it's easily doable in a day with lots of free time.

just got platinum and am considering ncu.. but if I tried it, progress would be very slow

I have a save in Ch. 5 NCU/NEU/NI/default paradigms (got 50 fortisol/deceptisol, 30 aegisol), but then I realized ncu is not as easy as e.g. FF9 lv 1 Ozma.

Is tsurutyo like the only person in the world to have beat Orphan without elixirs?

I would imagine it's been done by a few players, but not too many. It's so luck dependent. I'm sure fp could vouch for that as well. Even though I tried to do it way too many times to count, I recall a time when he was trying every way possible, back before we knew it was possible without elixirs IIRC.

It's so easy to go into panic mode on Orphan especially when you hit Opposite Extremes. That said, unless you're trying to 5-star M62 (and the other 61 that are beatable), you can get by using 2 elixirs on Orphan and still beat all the missions. 55 has an insane strategy to do with no elixir, and last I looked that video had been taken down, but it has been done. Basically using L1 weapons, having Light as leader Ruin-spam to get out of range of Screech, and get enough TP to summon again. 62 is still tough any way you slice it, but it can definitely be beaten with 1 elixir, and likely with none, but that's every bit as much if not more luck based than taking Orphan with no elixirs.

Either way, especially if you've already started it, I would always recommend NCU to anyone who enjoyed this game. It made me appreciate it much more, and I liked it to begin with. Good luck.

I know at least one other has beaten Orphan without elixirs (falcoFF), because on his/her youtube page, there is a video of 5-starring mission 62 in ncu. That is the only example I've seen or heard about where someone not only won, but got 5 stars. Its insanely hard to even get fang backed away at the start of that fight, much less win, to say nothing about getting 5 stars. 5 stars requires 3 elixirs to win, and M63 requires the 4th, but it is possible to have all missions completed, 5-starred, on one save file in NCU (which falcoFF demonstrated at the end of the M62 video).

I've been messing around during the holidays (waiting for 13-2), trying to see how many of the missions I could win with only stage 8 crystarium. Rules have been loose (just win the mission), but I have done every mission with 5-star except M55 and M64, which require you to beat barthandelus to access. I'm sure this has all been done before but it was an interesting diversion. Taking down M62 was particularly satisfying.

I guess you one upped me fph. I've been doing all the missions with a stage 9 crystarium. I've been doing them without T3 weapons, dark matter equipment, summons, or shrouds. I may make a video for M64. I may also try them with stage 8 crystarium.

TsuchiFF used to have a full video of NCU Orphan without an elixir, but he took it down.

I know Tsuchi still has the video up of M62 with one elixir, I believe it was 3 stars. That was the first one I found and linked up a topic or two back, and it is still up. But yeah, that's the only other win I've seen on M62 NCU. He had also posted a fail of the no elixir attempt. The first one was so close to downed after his 2nd summon (which obviously left him with no TP) that it leads me to believe it could be done, it just likely isn't worth the frustration. And yes, as you would guess, he wiped from not getting Fang backed up quickly enough after the 2nd summon.

As for Orphan, there's tsuchi and falco, neither of which still have the video posted, but did at one point or were proven (in falco's case) to have done so. Then there's the cut up video by tsurutyo which attempts to give a brief overview of how to go about it, but it's a shame it isn't a complete video. Either way, once you're in opposite extremes you're just hoping not to see Des Irae, though you can summon cancel it once, if it happens too early your chances are slim to none.
