    Doom, Quake, Halo 1, Half Life, Call of Duty 1, Unreal, Duke Nukem 3D.

    Any of the above should get you going.

    "DOOM", or "Half-Life". Both games were the foundation for every FPS out there right now. You should begin with a little history lesson.

    If you want something modern and simple Half-Life 2 would be good. Easy beginning. Builds difficulty. Or maybe you could buy CoD4. Best of the CoD series.

    I too usually play action, RPG games. My first FPS was Medal of Honor (ps3) It was pretty good.
