Trying to get into platformers. Want to start with Playstation 2 and Gamecube.
- Jun 13, 2012 7:49 am GMTI am trying to finally find games in genre's other than shooters that I enjoy. I have a local store that sales used and new PS2 games and used Gamecube games, some still in their oriignal cases. I believe, while I could be wrong, most if not all platformers are probably here since used PS2 games still come in today and they have a vast collection. The Gamecube selection is also pretty sizable. For these two consoles by Nintendo and Sony, I would like you guys to name some platformers. Which I hope i get into the genre and expand from there.

PS2:
- Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex
- Pac-Man World 2
- Sonic Mega Collection Plus
Gamecube:
- Sonic Gems Collection
- Super Mario Sunshine
However the heyday of platformers were in earlier generations. You'll find far more quality platforms on NES, SNES, Genesis, & PS1.

Currently Playing:
Silent Hill (PS)
God Of War: Ascension (PS3)
Demon Souls (PS3)
Darkstalkers 3 (Arcade)
Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis)
Assorted (Game Gear) Titles
Yes, as mentioned the Genisis and Super Nintendoare probably the best 2 systems for platformers.
Imo they were the shooters of there day, over saturated with very little differentiation.
I'd recommend the remakes of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 for Game Cube but to be quite honest they kinda suck, I'm a big sonic fan so I'll play them either way.... Sonic Heros imo was the best 3-D Sonic platformer and its available on both PS2 and GC.
Also Wario Land for the GC I remember being really fun as a kid!

PS2: Jak & Daxter Series (first is a straight up 3D platformer, the other 2 are more action oriented but still heavy on pletforming) Sly Cooper Series (also involves much more than just platforming but still heavy on platforming and a gerat series) Ratchet & Clank Series (focuses more on shooting but also heavy on platforming) Ty Series Kya: Dark Lineage (highly reccomend this) Vexx Sonic Mega Collection Plus Psychonauts Klonoa Series (highly reccomended) Ape Escape Series Haven Call of the King Ruff Trigger: The Vanocore Conspiracy (very underrated)- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.
Hmmm, don't know. I read somewhere that between the 3 consoles the ps2 was the console with the most bugs, especially Warrior Within.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

Now Playing: Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II (GBA), Castlevania (NES), Wario Land II (GBC)
Now Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation
For Gamecube, go with Super Mario Sunshine and Mega Man Anniversary Collection. But as others have said, the older systems have much better platformers, especially the N64 and SNES.
I have beat all 3 PoP games, plenty of times on the ps2, and havent noticed anything glitchy or remotely buggy. They are great games and I would reccomend them to anyone on the ps2.
