I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to ask, so if not just lock and tell me where to put it. It might be a mix of a few forums, but it is mostly audio technical so I am trying here first.
I want to be able to record myself playing the paino with a camcorder for the visual part, but not the audio because the audio is not too great sounding when coming through the speakers. When I put the headphones on it sounds much better and like a real piano. I want the audio to go directly to the computer so I can just split it into the video afterwards so the clarity is much better.
Right now I have it connected via MIDI, but I do not think this sends the audio signal to the computer. I am not sure how to record the audio and also what program would read the format. This is the only forum I frequent, but if anyone knows of a good music one, I will ask it there since they would be knowledgeable about the issue. Thanks for any help!

at my shop, we sell "Midi to USB" adapter from cakewalk, which seems to have a picture of a piano on it for this reason. cant think of any other way to do it. camcorder isnt a bad option but it will be loosing quality if the mic isnt that good.

MIDI offers no sound only musical data (notes, cc messages, timecode, etc.) assuming the piano has an audio out you will need an audio interface for your computer to receive sound from the piano. If your piano does not have an audio and is acoustic you will need use a mic which still you will need an audio interface. So it should look like this piano(digital) > 1/4inch audio cable > audio interface > pc > recording program or piano(acoustic) > mic > xlr or 1/4 inch cable > audio interface > pc > recording program.
**edit** just realized you said you used headphones so yeah the digital audio chain is what you want.

Alright, my piano has two headphone jacks. So I need an audio interface. Right now I have my PC and my piano. When you say audio interface...what exactly do you mean? I'll go out and buy the stuff, but not sure what I am looking for. Also, I see videos of people playing and there is sound, plus they have their headphones on. Since I have two headphone jacks, can I record the sound and play it through my headphones at the same time? Thanks.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

I'll do that for now, but you linked me to a bunch of audio interfaces. I mean what is the best option that won't break the bank? I'm not even sure exactly what options I need on it haha- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

I contacted Yamaha customer support and they said I could just go from the headphone to the line in, but they said the quality would be better with this device http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-Audiogram-USB-Recording-Interface/dp/B001F21RJ0/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1340042013&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=audiogram Is this a good one to buy, or is there a better one for a similar price? Thanks.
Why don't you just try doing it with line in since that's free. If you're not happy with it, then you can spend lots of money. Seems like the sensible option to me.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.
