    Is there any way to password protect either general access to the 3ds or deletion of its files?

    The closest "password" you can get on a 3DS is the Parental Locking Pin Number, I believe.

    No, why would you need it password protected? Keep things out of reach of stupid younger siblings.

    There is a PIN Number setting you can enable in System Settings -> Other Settings.
