"what I mean is, is it the most popular military esque FPS on PC right now (including the FTP ones)?"

Yep, along with MW3 I'd say.

"I have played Mw3 on 360 and I like small maps as well as large ones."

    BF3 has both.

"I mostly play Team Deathmatch since I don't like objective modes."

Here I see a problem, because BF3's primary MP Mode is Conquest and people who play primary play TDM in BF3 are seen in a critical light

"Does BF3 have a good team death match mode?"

Depends on with how many people you play, a small map with 64 people and it's absolute chaos, but I have the most fun in TDM when I play small maps with max of 24 people. Spawn Points are still a pain though in some maps and places, you can spawn right into a knife kill

"with smaller maps so I don't have to run 2 miles to find someone?"

The Maps in TDM are the same as in Conquest, but for TDM Mode you only play on small parts of the map, usually small enough you don't have to run much.

I think so. It didn't grab me immediately like the other Battlefield games did, but the more you play it the more you appreciate it. It's a very fun game.

No. CS 1.6 is the best multiplayer FPS game around the world. Casual or competitive, no game will top it.

is it as popular as CS Source tho. I tend to gravitate towards more of the customization type FPS games cos I love customizing and I don't have much time to practice to be l337 in FPS since I play fighting games kinda seriously.

also the bulk of my fear for objective gameplay is because when I am not playing with my friends on 360 in COD, the level of intelligence of my teammates takes a huge nose dive.

I know that the PC players are much smarter than the average COD console player, so with that in mind, how much do BF3 players play as a team? if you dont have a mic, are there ways of communicating? like typing in a team chat in TF2?

i used to play it alot but , now that im about lvl 46 or (Prestige 1) whatever that rank is called; i don't play it as much. but at these times, it's a very good MP fps game, at least for me; but you could always try older game's like CS:S or 1.6 to see how FPS has beeen degrading along the pass of years

CS as a series has a pretty big learning curve and you'll probably have a bit of trouble starting out. There is also no customization in the game (unless you count mods and stuff, which can be a lot of fun btw). It's definatly worth getting into imo, still one of my favorite (if not my absolute favorite) multiplayer shooters out there. If you are trying to decide between 1.6 and source, i'd either pick source (some people still prefer 1.6 because of the way weapons are balanced, but prefer source personally) I or just wait for Counter Strike: Global Offensive since you are new to the series. As for my opinion on BF3, its a fun team-based shooter that can be a lot of fun with friends and is fairly easy to pick up and play. Team Fortress 2 is also a must, especially now that is F2P.

If it's the best anything I'd say it's the best flight game although we'll have to check again once World of Warplanes, A3, and PS2 are out.

Lol the suppression mechanic is probably the worst thing I've ever seen in an FPS in my life. The game rewards you for being inaccurate, it's designed for n00bs. I honestly can't think of another FPS worse than Battlefield 3, it's even worse than Modern Warfare #16 or whatever number they're at now.

CS 1.6 is more popular than Source. The golden years for Source have long passed. That doesn't mean people don't play though. It's one of the top games on Steam.

Global Offensive is currently garbage and I don't see it being good anytime soon. Don't even bother opting in for the beta.

If you like better graphics and an easier game - play source. It also has acheivements, which are lame. But it has them if you like that sort of thing.

Hasn't source and 1.6 always been pretty close as far as population goes(with 1.6 being slightly more popular) ?

by Steam stats alone, 1.6 usually has 5000+ more players peak for the day than Source.

There are many cracked servers on 1.6 though that are loaded with players. I have been to Europe and most players there used a cracked version of the game but are able to join steam servers. I have heard the same in South America.

Competitive wise 1.6 is still extremely popular in Europe.

You didn't even play when jets physics were overhauled forcing a lot of noob pilots to get better or when the suppression mechanic actually became noticeable i.e after the 1.04 patch and even then your accuracies on all weapons suggests you never learned to counter recoil or even how to minimize bullet spread and your sniping accuracies suggest you haven't sniped in a game before, you're not in a position to complain about suppression or other players being inaccurate, besides which the suppression mechanic was nerfed in 1.05.

    I just don't think BF3 is fun.

Ive had a lot more fun with RO2 (since the latest patch) than I ever will with BF3. IMO its just not a fun game.
