Witcher 2 but the combat is the stander WRPG combat system so it has a bad combat system.
You could try a Xenoblade it is a bit of a step up to most WRPG combat.

has the best combat system of any jrpg
has an endearing and fun if not simple story
timeless graphical style.
very little grinding if you dont want to.
