Is there a RTS where you can also be a soldier?

Well like I asked in the thread title, does a game exist where you can control the action on a grand map in the vein of Total War, but in the battle phase also get the option to control a single soldier on the field as a mortal being who can just as easily die as the rest?
It also doesn't have to be a RTS, but I was wondering if there was a game where you are just a small piece of the huge conflict? And not like in shooters where you are a private who kills more than Rambo on a church day.I don't care if it's a bad game or if it's obscure, I just wish to know if one of such games exist?
I know Dynasty Warriors and their spinoff titles, but in those games you are mostly a demi-god hacking through hundreds/thousands of generic soldiers.
I am pretty sure what I am asking does not exist other than the ''you are a hero'' style of games where you fight in a war. But if anyone knows, please do tell me and I will check it out.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

Mount and Blade: Warband. One of the best games I've ever played. Kind of a mix between an RPG and a Total War game. The combat system is second to none, and by this time the game has been patched to the point of being stable and relatively bug free. The game Wars and Warriors: Joan of Arc also comes to mind, as you can swap between an RTS view and an action adventure game, but it is no where near as great as Mount and Blade.

I think Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War is exactly what you are looking for.

Well, there's Soldiers: Heroes of World War II, where you can control soldiers individually.
Then there's also Wargasm (stop laughing) and Battlezone, which offer something similar. And like somebody else said earlier, there's Rise & Fall, where you can control your heroes on the battle ( in a similar fashion to what Dinasty Warriors offers)
