It it simply because they think they're too " cool " for it, or is there an actual reason?
I heard various reasons as to why they never show up, but I can't actually find any proof if any of these reasons are actually true or not

The closest thing to an official word from Rockstar is Dan Houser whining about GTA III's poor reception at E3 2001.
That doesn't hold water though, because Rockstar went to E3 several times after that. They stopped going to E3 after Hot Coffee, many suspect that has more to do with it.
Whether or not Rockstar attends isn't really all that important. They didn't go to E3 2006, but that's when and where GTA IV was first announced. They didn't go to E3 2007, but Microsoft showed a GTA IV trailer during their press conference that year. Contrary to what a lot of people bray, it was not unreasonable to hope for GTA V info at E3.

I think it's because they don't need to go. Their games always sell, they always get critical acclaim, and they're always high quality. I think R* figures that they don't need to spend the money and resources making a presentation (both of which are much greater than you might think) because their reputation precedes them.

it's because e3 is kind of pointless in this day and age, developers can reveal info whenever and wherever they choose and people will know about it instantly.
I can't blame companies for not wanting to partake in the embarrassing press events and "who won e3??" nonsense.

Rockstar doesn't like being in the spotlight, I respect them for that.
Besides, they ARE too cool for e3. e3 is lame.

This is probably the truth, no one except R* knows exactly why they aren't attending but the conference is increasingly less relevant as the years go by. The only reason we pay attention to it now is because of the Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo press events and they aren't even apart of the conference technically. Less attention is shown to the developers each year and its a tough competition to stand out in a sea of different IPs. R* is in the position where it can unveil previews about its games on its own schedule and it does.

Eh, I don't buy it. A lot of companies could say the same thing. "lol why should we bother showing new Halo and CoD at E3? We know they're going to sell gazillions no matter what." And they'd be right. IMO it's ludicrous to think showing off GTA V at E3 wouldn't increase hype. If that's Rockstar's reason, then they're idiots.

Well the simple fact is R* don't want to or need to. There is no other reason for it. I'm happy about it been that way as I find a lot of dev's show to much of there game before it's even out and when I get the game nothing comes as a surprise.
Sure it's my own fault for watching/reading stuff but i can't help it when the information is just a few clicks away.

hmm, interesting. Well, thanks guys! I'm gonna lock the topic now though before the inevitable fight about nothing starts
Also, it makes no sense why you have to wait five minutes before locking a topic. It's your topic, you should be able to close it when you want
