we can only assume that it would have been too costly to get the licensing from nintendo, as well as the added difficulty of porting a gamecube game to the ps3 would have been considerably trickier (just guessing though). - Apr 28, 2012 9:53 pm GMTF-Rott posted...

They could do that but they would have to go through licensing first, and removing the MGS2 components and maybe the over the top scenes (only one i could remember being too over the top was snake jumping on the missle) due to fan request. - Apr 29, 2012 12:00 am GMTF-Rott posted...

No they couldn't have, Nintendo/Silicon Knights own the rights to it, they couldn't just include it without paying Nintendo who the hell knows how much money to call off the exclusive rights to TTS.
MGS1 is already on the PSN store for a pretty damn good price, and looks decent enough, though it looks better if played on a PSP, and most MGS fans (the people the HD collections are mainly targeting) already own it, and they can't do much for it graphically, it would've been a waste of their time and money trying to improve something that can't be improved on.
Kojima plans to reimagine MGS1, that's most likely another reason why they didn't include the original, or bother to get the rights to put TTS on a Sony console.
Aside from that, besides it being graphically superior, TTS isn't really that great of a game, the voice acting sucked, everyone sounded as if they were ready to fall asleep, most likely due to them already doing the same thing less then ten years before and just not wanting to do it again., the MGS2 gameplay mechanics made the game too easy, the others were pretty much wasted since anywhere you can hide people in lockers, no guard even crosses anothers path close enough to notice the body, the cutscenes were too over the top, and the music they put in there in spots where the original had good points for being emotionally gripping, was now replaced with...well garbage music that just bores the hell out of you and makes you wish the cutscene would end.
Now of course i won't claim to speak for everyone when i say this, but in my honest opinion, Twin Snakes isn't that good of a remake.

I didnt think twin snakes was that bad... i mean the originals voice acting is far far superior to be sure and some of the script changes were just stupid (i.e. [Original] It's not a weak point! I like to think of it as a character flaw. [Twin Snakes] It's not a weak point! It's a weakness. *rolls eyes*). And I definitely preferred Grey Fox's voice on the original. It legitimately sounded like the man's body was in bad shape and that he was in pain... but I liked the gameplay of twin snakes and the graphical enhancments. As for the over the top stuff... that never bothered me. I don't play games for realism and I liked seeing Snake doing some badass stunts

So it's a character flaw that the voice actors did a piss poor job on TTS's voice work? Pfft, no.
The voice acting being garbage compared to the original IS a weak point.
The script changes ARE a weak point, if you're going to remake the game and change the script actually add something into it like the remake of RE1 did, not change two or three words.
The MGS2 elements introduced IS a weak point, because they make the game far too easy, even on Extreme.
Besides the graphics, and that's hardly a good point seeing as the environment in TTS looks dull compared to the original, TTS doesn't have alot going for it.

I am the true originator of the Cookie Demon theory on the SH2 and 3 boards. - Apr 29, 2012 12:32 pm GMTJesus, Twin Snakes wasn't THAT bad. I think they improved some of the voice acting from the first one. I'll take Twin Snake's "Meryl!" over MGS1's slurred "Murrl!" any day.
Yeah, him doing a cartwheel over the missile was a bit much, but geez. It wasn't a super-duper horrible game with disgusting voice acting like some of you are making it out to be. It was basically MGS1 with some MGS2 stuff added. The updated environments are enough to count me in. It was pretty awesome.
As for making the game too easy, whatever. TTS wasn't primarily for first-timers, its main audience were MGS fanatics, and it was a revisit to a familiar world re-imagined and updated graphically. At the time it was released, who HADN'T played through MGS1 over and over and OVER? I just enjoyed it for what it was. The opportunity to play MGS again in a different way. Getting all hot and bothered over it is unnecessary. Go play the original instead, since you obviously enjoy that more.
That's like me huffing over Rob Zombie's horrible remake of Halloween instead of just enjoying John Carpenter's original. Excess stress for no reason.

What? No. Thats one of the lines that was changed on twin snakes. When you call Otacon to ask him how to beat REX. On the original it says "Its not a weak point, its a character flaw. People just arent complete without some type of character flaw, dont you think?"
on twin snakes he says "It's not a weak point. It's a weakness. People and weapons just aren't complete without some kind of weakness, don't you think?"
For all the script changes thats the one that annoyed me the most. That just sounded so stupid to me lol. I personally think TS wouldve been much more well received if theyd just kept the voice overs from the original. I wouldve thought a lot more of it anyway. I still prefer the original but I dont think as little of twin snakes as most people seem to. Personally i liked the gameplay better. the biggest thing i disliked about the original is i dont think they could have picked a worse button to hold down in order to move while aiming if they tried. For we are saved by hope but hope that is seen is not hope for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? - Romans 8:24 - Apr 30, 2012 2:02 pm GMTThis whole MGS1 vs. TTS thing has been beaten to death at this point but ill share my view
Now as for what I think of Twin Snakes? I personally thought it was an awesome remake and lives up to the original in many ways. Saying this I know people are going to think: "OMG WTF NOT A TRUE FAN!!!" or "your opinion is dumb and wrong" or even "you never played the original if you think that" etc. But, to me personally, TTS is not as bad as people make it out to be...
The new recorded VA was a little weak in some parts and some of the script changes were a little pointless, like the one that someone earlier mentioned between "character flaw" and "weakness". I think it’s a bit much to say the VA in TTS is horrid though as some like to say.
Personally overall I thought the VA was an improvement in some areas while being weak in others. For example, I hated how quickly people talked in the original after someone was finished speaking sometimes. It didn’t seem natural to me. That said TTS has problems with how some characters say their lines, as though they aren’t fully there. It still sounds good somewhat, but they don’t seem as motivated this time around. Also, this point is always funny for one reason. For all those saying that they want a "proper" remake on a Sony system, they’d have to get the VA AGAIN. Who’s to say they will want to come back a third time after being a bit wary to come back the second time? David Hayter had to give up half his paycheck to get most of them to come back and do it again for TTS. Who knows if he'd be willing to do that again, or if they will even accept that this time? Also, I like the fact the accents for both Mei Ling and Naomi are gone, they didn’t fit in the original so I didn’t mind that they were gone. And personally, I much prefer Rob Paulsen (i think that’s his name) as the Cyborg Ninja. While I didn’t mind Greg Eagles's performance, I didn’t think it fit overall honestly for the Ninja. My opinion though so don’t take it personally.

Chapter 7, that's all you need to say to a Valkyria fan, they'll know what you mean-Celestial Damnation (see quote) - Apr 30, 2012 2:03 pm GMTCutscene direction overall was pretty bad. I did like some of the new cutscenes, most of them whenever the Cyborg Ninja and Snake were involved at the same time or just the Ninja himself. I also liked the scenes with REX near the end of the game. But overall, many of the over the top cutscenes were unnecessary and downright ridiculous sometimes.
While cutscene direction was bad, however, most of the blame falls on Kojima for this one. Most people either forget or don’t know this, but the guy who made the cutscenes originally had them pretty much identical to what the original had. But Kojima didn’t want it to be exactly the same. So he rejected the original cutscenes and had the director redo them, and told him to do it in the way he is known for. This director is famous for his over the top action sequences in some Japanese movies and the main reason why Kojima hired him in the first place since he was a fan of his work and wanted to see him do his work on the cutscenes in the game. Kojima WANTED the over the top cutscenes, whether they were good or not is up to the player. Could the over the topness been toned down? Yeah probably, but just know that they weren’t intended to be that way in the first place by the director. He wanted to keep the cutscenes the same but Kojima didn’t allow it
With gameplay changes, I thought the inclusion of the MGS2 mechanics were awesome. This was also fueled by the fact that MGS2 was and still is my favorite MGS game in the series and I liked its gameplay mechanics.
While the gameplay changes did make the game MUCH easier than the original, I still felt it added a whole new feel to the game that made playing it all the more better for me. Plus some people make it sound like the guards were completely unchanged thereby making the MGS2 mechanics pointless and game breaking, which isn’t entirely untrue, since they make entire areas and one boss much easier than they should be. However, guards got the behavior from MGS2 as well, by calling backup when Snake is discovered and doing searches in rooms where Snake is suspected to be hiding, which prevented it from being too easy than it already is and a huge step up from the original guards which by contrast were really dumb and easy to avoid, so the guards were updated to coincide with the MGS2 mechanics. In other words, they are smarter, even if it’s only by a little bit. Had the guards been kept the same as the original, the MGS2 mechanics truly would’ve been more game-breaking than they already are. And if you find Twin Snakes too easy, then just play on Extreme, which should provide you with enough challenge to not be annoyed at how easy it is, even though it’s not as hard as the original’s Extreme. Dog Tags were useless but they were there if you felt like going for them. Guarantee they would be a trophy or achievement if Twin Snakes would be updated in HD for the PS3 and 360 though, but that’s beside the point.

Chapter 7, that's all you need to say to a Valkyria fan, they'll know what you mean-Celestial Damnation (see quote) - Apr 30, 2012 2:03 pm GMTAs for music changes, I didn’t mind it too much so I don’t have much to say on the matter. The new music is alright, but nothing more. The new music isn’t bad and tends to fit most of the areas well enough, but most aren’t very memorable.
Overall, the music is alright for what it is. The real improvement I say in regards to music though was each boss getting their own theme, instead of using the same one each time. That in my opinion was awesome and I’m glad they did that. It does suck some of the original key music is missing like “Encounter” though at least they kept “The Best is Yet to Come” for the credits. That change would’ve been one true gripe I would’ve had (to the point of preferring the original, other improvements be damned) if it had occurred but they were wise to keep it. Also some are under the impression that ALL the music was changed, but that’s not entirely true. The music in the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building is actually the same, but since the type of music they used to make the songs in the TTS is updated and therefore different, it doesn’t sound exactly the same. It’s more of a remix but it is the exact same theme. You can look this up on YouTube to see what I mean. Unfortunately this is the only example I have since I haven’t played either game in a long time so I don’t remember much of the music.
Overall, despite some of the things that were wrong with Twin Snakes, the game is worthy enough to be called a true remake of MGS in my eyes. The original does some things better, and the remake does some things better. However, the core story is the same and it’s still the same MGS experience down to its core just with a fresh coat of new paint, only it was painted with some questionable colors if you get what I mean.
That’s pretty much all I got. Whew, man that was long. Sorry for the triple post but i couldnt fit all of it in one post.
