So is the kombat pass not needed anymore?

My friend had given me this game a year ago but it was after he already used the kombat pass.

However a few weeks ago my cousin started playing MK and tried to play online and she was able to join and play matches online.

When I first downloaded the season pass characters back in 2011 I couldn't play online without a kombat pass and already used up the trial. Now three weeks have passed and I'm still able to play online and never downloaded the kombat pass.

So did NRS decide to make the online free for anyone without the need for a pass or is it just my game?

I think when they released the Komplete Edition of MK9 you no longer needed the Kombat pass. It could have happened before that though I suppose.
