I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons for about 4 years now, and I have to say, this game is absolutely amazing. I've played through it many times. Nowadays, you can see how Dragon Age is remarkably similar to this.
Even though this game is surprisingly tolling on PCs (blame that solely on the shadows), Neverwinter Nights 2 is quite the experience. I still play to this day.
@senator990 Well this is only 20$ on Steam with both expansions (Amazing value), But DA2 is pretty good, but not as good as Witcher 2 will probably be seeing as DA2 doesn't have as good of a story as the first but is still worth playing, but not as much as NWN2 or Witcher 2.
@senator990 The Witcher 2 is definitely the best of these three in my opinion, more action-oriented gameplay, and not to mention a freaking amazing story. If you haven't played the original, you should to get the full epic saga.
If only Dragon Age had used this engine in the way The Witcher did, so that we had the same tactical combat as Dragon Age, but with a Witcher/NWN 2 sandbox world and the real true roleplaying inbetween instead of the enforced fast travel and more linear gameplay that DA: O gave us!
I'm playing this at the moment. It requires some tinkering, but once you find that sweet spot with the controls, graphics and camera settings, it's fried gold. I'd say the camera works well; it just has a lot of options.
@Crasian13 First, this game came before Dragon Age: Origins. Second of all, this series was created by Bioware and the original was by Bioware, but the sequel, NWN 2, is by Obsidian. Obsidian are developing Fallout New Vegas by the way.
I never got around to playing this game before, but it was no big loss. A great story and rich chracters can in NO way make up for the crappy interface and game play. I felt the same way when I played Demon Stone and could not get the camera to follow or to show the fight without a lot of needless running around and jumping. I will play Dragon's Age and Oblivion again and be happy for some games with great stories and great gameplay.
This really doesn't sound that good. If I've never played a Neverwinter game, but I really like RPGs, would I have more fun picking up the first Neverwinter Nights? Like the Gold edition or whatever?
I'm playing NWN1 at the moment. Havent done much yet, just created a character and graduated, but my hopes are high. IT BETTER BE GOOD AFTER ALL THAT!!!!
Good review. I agree with the reviewer's conclusion. And they picked the review music well - the game's main theme. This game is very flawed, however. Using the DnD rule set for the gameplay mechanics is a failure formula. Also the playing itself - controlling, interacting, etc - is too "stucky". It's not very intuitive, doesn't flow smoothly. Not sure how to phrase this. Definitely a good story, though.
Funny how every time an rpg comes out, people complain about how it's "ANOTHER swords&sorcerery game." But no one ever complains when ANOTHER fps clone comes out. The gaming industry needs more rpgs, dammit!
I agree the only problem is the camera, damn why dont they let you set it "there" and keep it "there" no changes no adjustments, or why not set it behind a character like action rpgs....
looks really lame. i have never been interested in D&D titles, and this is no exception. never was interested in neverwinter nights, and im not that interested in this at all. ill go back to mass effect, thanks.
