I am having quite a bit of trouble believing wario isnt in this

nintendo isnt stupid. Making mario gather a million gold coins? I dont care who kidnapped the princess, wario is behind it.
Doing this coin thing in the game, without wario, is like DC publishing a comic where batman has to solve riddles to defeat killer croc.

I heard instead of 8 bosses, Mario has to fight 8 gym leaders at the end of every world. He also has a fairy that follows him around. And he gets his banana hoard back at the end of the game.

Well he's not the villain, that's for sure. Koopalings and Wario? Nope.
And I could see there being no Wario in this game EASILY.
Frankly it's shocking that Wario even was playable in the SM64 remake.

I wouldn't be very surprised if Wario shows up when you get 1 million coins and steals your coin stash. Or something along those lines. And the second half of the game is Mario trying to get his money back from Wario (similar to Mario reclaiming his castle from Wario and Wario taking his treasure back from the Syrup Gang). Not only could this part have tougher levels (like the special worlds in 3D Lands), but since Mario collected so many dang coins, the ironic twist would be that these levels would be totally devoid of coins. That's how I hope it would turn out anyway.

Sadly not likely, as for some reason Nintendo doesn't like to use any character that isn't Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, or a Toad, in the main series games (heaven forbid the cast has some diversity). Which is too bad, as I would love to see Wario in a main 3D Mario game, or in a Paper Mario (not saying it's part of the main series).

Oh no worries, Wario is in it. Nintendo knows that if they want a Mario game based entirely around coins to succed it needs Wario in it.
