300th Game hits Wii Virtual Console
N64 classic The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask becomes 300th title on Nintendo's retro-game download service.
One of the key features revealed at the official unveiling of the Wii back in 2006 was Nintendo's take on Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade, the Wii Virtual Console. Launching with just 30 games, the service has gone from strength to strength, with Nintendo updating the store weekly with new content.
Now the Mario Factory has announced that the critically acclaimed N64 classic The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask will become the 300th game to land on the Virtual Console and will be available for 1,000 points (£12.50, $12.50). The game follows on from the events of the N64's other Zelda title, Ocarina of Time. Players once again take on the role of Link to unravel the plans of Skull Kid, via a reliving of the same three days in the game.
Nintendo's download success also extends to its original title service, WiiWare, which recently celebrated its first birthday. More than 81 games from more than 40 developers are available to buy on WiiWare, up from the initial offering of eight at launch. Adding to the list is Square Enix, which, having launched one of the first titles for the service, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, is back with new tower defence game Crystal Defenders R2 available for 800 points ($10, £10), while Agetec makes its virtual console debut with Silver Star Chess for 500 points (£5, $5).
