IDSA renamed ESA

The Interactive Digital Software Association announces that it has formally changed its name to the Entertainment Software Association.

The association that represents video game publishers in the US, formerly known as the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA), has today announced that it has formally changed its name to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). The new name is effective immediately, and the association's Web site is now located at www.theesa.com.

"More than half of all Americans derive hundreds of hours of entertainment from the software they play on their PCs, their video game consoles, their cell phones, and on the Internet," said ESA president Douglas Lowenstein. "The members of the ESA are the companies creating and publishing this entertainment software and our new name is a more clear and direct statement defining this exciting industry we represent."

The ESA is the association dedicated to serving the needs of video game publishers in North America. As well as owning the E3 trade show, it offers publishers that are members of the association a number of services, such as a global anti-piracy program, business and consumer research, and First Amendment and intellectual property protection efforts.
