Halo 3 beta signup begins, new trailer airs

[UPDATE 3] Microsoft opens up registration for multiplayer testing of Halo 3 in early December; new 60-second spot inside!

In November, Bungie Studios and Microsoft announced that they had a huge announcement regarding Halo 3. Many hardcore fans were let down when the news was merely the announcement of a beta program...that wouldn't even start until spring 2007.

Today, registration for the beta program began at the Halo 3 Web site. The beta will initially be open to North American gamers, and not everyone who applies is guaranteed a spot. To participate, gamers must have: a) An Xbox 360 with a hard-drive; b) A valid Xbox Live Gold subscription; c) A valid Microsoft. NET Passport account with a Xbox Live GamerTag linked to it. More details on the beta-sign up can be found on halo3.com.

[UPDATE 3] A new 60-second Halo 3 ad aired during last night's Monday Night Football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers. It is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace, Xbox.com, and via the link below.

Halo 3 is due out in 2007 exclusively for the Xbox 360.

    i find the more i anticipate a game, the faster i get tired of it when i actually get it. Bungie should have kept details under wraps until like a month before launch, then it's fresh in your mind when you buy it.

    I never played any halo at all, but I'm excited to get it though none the less. I'm actually new to shooters period, I got gears of war and suck at it but love the heck out of it too.

    I personally think the video was good but I noticed these videos are only fixed on Master Chief. They don't show any of the other main characters or even hear their voices. They also don't really show the Convenants that much as well. Obviously there are new weapons because of the trailer, vehicles, maps,...etc. The thing I'm wondering is in the first trailer I personally think it's a halo built into the planet Earth and is actually aimed and shot at a planet that the Convenants were trying to do in the first place but never had a chance too. I also think it can also self destruct and destroy the planet Earth but then again what do I know? Plus the second Halo is still there so it could also be like a second key and reactive the Halo / work along with the halo.

    I can't wait to play H3 but i hope they added new weapons like the honeycomb hideout grendae and i wonder if a new kind of race will come from the convenant soooo many questions. that can't be answered until 07 and cool vid.

    Why does this games graphics look like a Halo 2.5? Whooptie doo, you upped the texture resolution and polygons! I remain unimpressed.

    I've played halo and halo2 and I wasn't that impressed. I mean yeah they were fun first person shooters but so is call of duty. It took me a litle over 10 hours which i know some of you could annihilate me in to beat halo 2 for me I like a game that takes 100 hours or more so oblivion dominates.

    The only thing halo is good for is buying a keg with 4 friends and playing xbox live as a team. And then i still get annihilated

    I've seen the making of that trailer and alot of that is live action and not in game. Check out when he picks the helmet up. Still very good though

    lebbsouljah dude so have agree with you on the grenade thing there, I dont know about anyone else but I know I always hate it when your on a map with veichles and the first thing some dude does is mow you down with a hog or a banshee before you even know what going on. Sheild grenades that could send them flying would be excellent. But thinking like that it could be used offensively too. Flag carrier running into his base, you throw the grenade throught the door and the shield pops up around him giving you ample time to get to him while he's stuck in a bubble hehe. Or what about some dude on a turret mowing down you and your team, bubble him up and give everyone some time to get away lol. It could be amazing

    ohhhhhhhhhhhh the hype. i get cracked up when i see people saying things like halo set the standard for FPS. Uh... what about half life, doom, far-cry, Unreal, and BF1942? Halo, maybe all hte console FPS goodness that some may need, but HALO is not really innovating the genre. Good console game, but nothing new here. Looks great, cant wait to play it, but fanbois, please, try to keep from crapping your self, the stink is overwhelming.

    caiyu13; no that isn't what that means. If you hadn't noticed, there was a huge battle going on and the Master Chief temporarily lost him helmet and couldn't respond, hence, his communication device is built into his helmet. He put this helmet back on and poof, he was able to respond.

    That trailer is the gameplay footage if you didnt see bungies prefcon they staited that every trailer shown of halo 3 is the game engine (IN HIGH DEF). So yeah it is nice i just hope they take the noobie stuff out of it that they had in halo 2 like AUTO AIM and the Melee Lunge. It makes it to noobified.

    Well yes i believe that Halo 3 will sell consoles and that back in 04 when halo 2 was launched that game even sold Xboxs and i believe Halo3 will do the same and probably even better..and plus its gonna nuke PS3 soooooooooooooo bad

    I think people are getting over hyped about this. Dont' get me wrong I can't wait to play the game but for people to say "that trailer just blows my mind" well that kinda seems a little over board. Now if that was gameplay footage well ya you could say that. But come on...its just a trailer.

    Did anyone notice that some one over the radio said "I think we lost the Chief" and all Chief say is "Not yet". Is he hinting that he is going to die in halo3?

    If Bungie can manage to incorporate the shield grenade into halo 3 multiplayer properly, I really think it could make the game a lot better... not worse. It just depends on how they do it.

    I think it'd be pretty interesting to have it as a throwable grenade (as oppose to one that is simply activated and used upon yourself)...

    For example: Your teammates are driving away with the enemy flag and you see someone locking on to them with a rocket launcher from a fair distance. The timer is frozen at 5 seconds because your teammate has the flag and if he and the driver were to get hit by the rocket no one else on the team would be able to contest it in time. You have nothing but an smg and your shield grenade, so what do you do? You throw the grenade so that it lands right behind your teammate's hog. It activates for 5 seconds and shields the escaping hog from certain doom. You score the flag, gameover.

    I'd like to see something like that, basically the grenade would just deploy a shield wherever it lands. A shield in which nothing can go in or out...

    Yea the Guns will be on your backs for sure. BUT if you look closly you see a new race when cheir is jumping. I also hope they dont put the shield thing in. IT change gameplay too much and would suck for multiplayer.

    OMFG that shield thingy is awesome. And i think i saw in a screenshot that they put the guns the arent using on their backs, like on CS: Source..!!!

    Halo 1 was amazing. Halo 2 was good but not good enuf. Halo 3 had better be amazing to bring PS3 fans in to 360. Gears of War is doing that. Gears of War trailer has turned alot of my friends away from PS3 and towards 360.
