Virtual Console dates set for AU

Nintendo to add Virtual Console games every Friday for Australia/New Zealand Wii owners; 28 games to be available before end of year.

Nintendo, still flushed from the Wii's record-breaking debut in Australia, isn't letting up with announcements on the Wii front. We don't get Turbographix games because they were never released in Australia/New Zealand. But, if you set your PAL Wii's region To "Europe" you can get them."

    This is true, in fact there's a New Zealander on youtube who shows you how to do this very thing. Unfortunately for us it doesn't work from US to JP.

    @SpiderFreak:
    Edit: btw, have there been any compatibility issues with GC games on the Wii?

    The only ones I know of are that the Gameboy Player "works" in the disc drive, but there's no where to connect the cart slot of course. Also, you can't access the Wii's home menu while playing Gamecube games like you can with Wii and Virtual Console games. So you may have to shut off the Wii to stop playing a Gamecube game. Oh yeah, and I imagine that the Phantasy Star Online games (I & II, Plus and III) cannot be taken online with the Wii. I've never tried it, but I'm assuming that the Gamecube components cannot access the Wii's internet system through Gamecube memory cards, even with the USB Ethernet adaptor.

    So will Nintendo gives a good reason other then "We are waiting for a dry month"?.It feels like a slap in the face that Americans are NOT getting the massive list of VC titles every other country is getting and Im not buying the excuse they tossed out.

    Sure Gunstar Heros owns hard (Very Hard) but still its the principle.

    @SpiderFreak:

    "Where's ALttP? And Donkey Kong Country? And Majora's Mask?

    I have a feeling that the same complaining about the 360's backwards compatibility is going to happen with the Wii's virtual console...Except the fanboys will be much, much more passionate."

    Backwards compatibility and virtual console games are apples and oranges. 360 buyers were pissed off after learning that their original Xbox games wouldn't run on their new system.

    "Go Here:

    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm"

    In what way is that related to the selection of games that nintendo decides to make available for DL? A more accurate comparison would be XBL Arcade vs. Wii VC.

    Edit: btw, have there been any compatibility issues with GC games on the Wii?

    "SF...

    I seriously doubt it.

    How many games are backwards compatible with the 360?

    There are probably more games on the Wii Virtual Console already than that number, and more are being released every week... if anyone complains, they obviously lack the patience to wait.

    I personally want to see the Castlevania series as well as Streets of Rage and Final Fight... I don't even know IF they're coming out yet."

    ...Go here:

    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm

    Now that you're a little bit more educated on the number of backwards compatible games on the Xbox 360, I would like to again state my hypothesis: Nintendo fanboys who were greatly excited by the ability to play classic Nintendo games on the Wii will probably react similarly to some of the gamers who were disappointed not to see their favorite games on the backwards compatibility list, and were even more disappointed when they learned that it would take a long time to get most of the Xbox games compatible and some might never be.

    Just think about it. What happens when fans of some obscure (yet probably good) game on the NES are waiting for weeks and weeks for their game to be added, when there's no garuntee that it'll ever be on there?

    This could get very, very bad for Nintendo.

    This is great, but I wont be buying many of them unless Nintendo matchs Microsoft's prices. I love Donkey Kong Country, I bought it from the VC and felt riped off by the $12.50 price tag I had to pay. I'd buy lots of these retro game that are coming out for the VC if they were the $6 I pay for retro games on XBLA.
