Burning Crusade CE fetching $$$ on eBay

Sold-out deluxe edition of first expansion to popular MMOG is drawing almost three times its retail price on online auction site.

The eBay bonanza of next-gen console auctions was all the rage over the holiday season, with shoppers hoping to snag a hard-to-find Wii or PlayStation 3 and willing to pay extra for the convenience. The console auctions have since settled down dramatically, but now a new gaming product high in demand and low in supply is getting attention in auctions.

The Collector's Edition of the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Expansion Pack is drawing bids of almost three times its retail price on eBay. The add-on to the popular PC game will be launched in mid-January, and preorders of the expansion's deluxe edition have been sold out for months.

The CE of The Burning Crusade retails for $69.99 and includes the Art of the Burning Crusade book, a behind-the-scenes DVD, two WOW trading card packs with three exclusive cards, a mouse pad, the soundtrack, and an exclusive in-game pet.

In addition to the aforementioned goodies, the CE is a rare commodity for those who play the game, which had amassed 7.5 million subscribers worldwide as of November.

When asked how many copies of the Collector's Edition would be released, a Blizzard representative told GameSpot, "We're unable to provide a specific number, but we can say that a very limited quantity of them will be made and no more will be reprinted after the initial allotment."

Currently, some auctions for the CE of the original World of Warcraft are going for more than $300. For more on The Burning Crusade, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

It just goes to show how huge this game really is, the best of it's kind of all time.
I have to say one that plays the game when I can that I really like it and can see just why people can get so into it. WOW is a great place to be and I hope it lives like Ultima Online has so far.(6 years so far in UO and hope the same for WOW).

WoW is ok..I played EQ1 for 6 years and enjoyed it for most of that time, but the latest expansion was just more of the same..so I tried WoW and liked it. I now don't play EQ anymore, but I'm not nearly as fond of WoW as I was EQ1. I'm not sure if it's WoW, or me....I'm probably just getting to old too enjoy this stuff anymore...sad in a way..heh.

    lol.

these CE's are amazing. Burning Crusade is fetching 200

and the ORIGINAL which is now rarer because of its age is now fetching a 300 dollar price range for the CE.

    blizzard must sure be happy....

why should they make more of those CE, then it wouldnt be a CE.

I think its sucks that eBay allows this, they allow it on their website.
    it must be forbidden

i played the wow beta, and i buyed WoW, i played like 4 months, had some high lvl's ... then i got tierd of always paying for it.
    so i quit..

Actually some of us have better reasons for not playing WoW. It's a decent game, but it's dumbed down, and pretty linear that you can only get decent XPs for questing, and if you're not interested in Battlegrounds, there's nothing to do once you reach 60. There's more reasons that I stopped playing... but none of your reasons even hit close. So before you start generalizing, realize it makes you just as bad as the bashers.

Note also, that I'll probably play for a bit after BC comes out, after waiting for a couple of weeks for them to get the big hit to performance, etc. of the expansion releasing and to correct any launch flaws. But I'm by no means a basher, as I played for quite a long time before cancelling my subscription.

dont blame blizzard for delaying Starcraft 2 or starcraft ghost on WoW. There are only 3 reasons people dislike WoW and that is 1) your to cheap to pay $15.00 a month to get an amazing game with tons and tons of new stuff practically every patch and 2) You dont have the money to play it per month so you say blizzard is a greedy company and needs on another game ASAP. (i agree they need toto stop giving WoW so much support and work be working on another game alongside WoW, but im sure they are we just dont know it yet.) and 3) your to embarressed to admit you play one heck of a nerdy game. All WoW nay-sayers need to stop complaining....WoW is here to stay for at least another few years and im sure you many of you secrectly like it but wont admit to it because of the 3rd point I made.

I know that but you kill blue boars, red boars. "Raged" boars. Could it of killed them to add some varity to the monsters, wile I bo admit some boss battles are great like Nefairian, you don't ANY interesting battles until 60 and for me getting to 60 is borderline impossible without getting bored and loging off.

Well what do you expect in an MMO? If you can't quest or grind then it wouldn't be much of an MMO.

  • Theclow

    Posted Jan 5, 2007 11:43 pm PT

I don't think the're is any diffrence between the 2 versions execpt the pet(the pet in the last CE was useless), CD and DVD versions(Useful when you needed to install it), and maps and stuff, honesly I don't see a reason to buy the CE. (I'm not a WoW addict actually I just stoped playing because I realised I was just in a infinate loop of questing and grinding.)

detoam13: Monthly fees are used for server maintenance, a constant stream of new content, and paying the people that maintain the game. Do you honestly believe that Blizzard would offer a game that's so bandwidth intensive for just $50? That's like saying, "Hey, I paid for this car. I shouldn't have to pay for gas to make it run!"

  • undox

    Posted Jan 5, 2007 9:42 pm PT

Even Steel Battalion didn't cost that much and it came with a giant 40-button controller with foot petals. There is no way that I am paying that much for a video game, no matter how good it is.

WoW is good but wtf? Come on $250 for a game? How stupid. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Agree with u there but the auctions for the PS3 auctions should have taught u that most of the public IS stupid.

Someone really needs to get a life. And to all those that pay monthly fees to play any game online... same. I still don't get it. You BUY the game, but in order to be able to play you have to pay more? That's the dumbest, greediest thing I've heard of. Even M$ does not charge monthly fees. They would make a killing though. Play games like Guild wars and put monthly fees in Ur bank. Best retirement plan ever.

I can't say that I didn't like WoW, However I know alot of other games are lots more graphics intensive. When i played it, I wasn't that impressed to pay the monthly fee to stay on. IMO i think Guild wars is much better because of this, and the graphics are better. I wanna see what games are up in this genre once the DX10 comes out.

WoW is currently the best game on earth imo! I'm 15 and have played plenty of games in the past. You name it i have every classic game. I played SWG, EVE online, everQ 1 and 2, guild wars etc etc. then I bought this game in mid 2005. After seeing all the hype on this game i thought...meh, its all hype! But then as i noticed this game becoming more popular i decided to buy it. The first day i played it i was completly hooked! I thought f**k guild wars, EVE, and the others. This is THE game. The one to beat them all. I have been playing it for over a year now, the longest i've been hooked to a game. So everyone that says this game sucks I think you either haven't played it or you have never played MMO's. I seriously doubt a better MMO will replace this for years as currently developers are focusing on graphics rather than gameplay for MMO's. But why is this game addicting? Basically it's fun, rewarding and doesnt require high end PC. A prefect classic that lives up to all the hype and will LIVE ON FOREVER!!! I hope xD I think blizz will update the graphics for this game by next year anyway because of vista.

Yea, quite a few of my WoW friends have specific times of the day when they play and can't be bothered with anything else. One of my friends won't hang out with anybody from the time period of 8-10, as that's when he goes "dungeon raiding". Even on Fridays and the weekends. Now, I'm not saying this is sad, as he'll probably be more comfortable raiding dungeons than going to the movies or a party, but it's still a little crazy, ya know? To devote 2 hours every night to the same ol' game, week after week... I guess it says something about the quality of the game and its community in general. In any case, I'm not going to be playing WoW anytime soon. I just worked off my CounterStrike addiction and I'm not too privy on getting hooked on something new...

For all of you saying wow sucks or it's lame or whatever else, get real, there are 7 million plus people including myself who play and enjoy this game, just because it didn't happen to do it for you doesen't mean you should knock it. WoW is totally worth 15 a month and it's a lot cheaper than paying 59 a month for a 360 game which I can sit down and finish in 4-5 hrs, whereas I have played WoW for almost 2 years and still find the littlest things like hanging with friends and fishing the best time ever.
