C&C3 360 dated, demo confirmed

Kane and company command the Xbox 360 on May 10; demo of RTS scheduled to conquer Xbox Live Marketplace soon.

Electronic Arts is convinced that there is a market for real-time strategy games on home consoles. Traditionalists believe that the PC is the only home for the RTS genre, but the publisher took the leap of faith with an Xbox 360 version of Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II last July, and the critical reception was positive.

The company is braving the waters once again with an Xbox 360 version of Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, and EA today finally solidified a release date--May 10.

The game sees players controlling armies battling in the year 2047 over an alien mineral called tiberium. There are three factions in the game--the good guys of the Global Defense Initiative, the evil Brotherhood of Nod, and the extraterrestrial Scrin--all with different ideas of what to do with the parasitic tiberium.

EA has taken the traditionally keyboard-and-mouse-centric controls of the RTS genre and adapted them for the Xbox 360. The console version will also support the Xbox Live Vision camera peripheral, showing each participant on a portion of the screen and allowing the winner to take center stage at the end of a match.

A demo will also be hitting Xbox Live Marketplace "in the coming weeks," but no further details have been revealed.

Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars for the Xbox 360 is rated T for Teen and will retail for $59.99. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage or check out the review of the PC version.

for the person who asked why the 360 games cost less, and im no expert on this, so dont quote me, but p.c. games, while definitely harder to develop for, there is no charge to make software, while any company that makes a 360 game has to give microsoft a large amount of money. Hence the reason why microsoft and other companies make good money from these things - licensing fees.

p.s. computers cost a hell of a lot more anyways. the 10$ a game you save on the p.c. games does not add up to the money you save from buying the 360 hardware.

Nope, they don't give a damn as long as the PC is a better RTS platform.

"Titanfan2083 RTS will always be easier on a console, and thats a fact..........but hey im not gonne buy this for my 360 cuz i already got it for PC"
RTS will always be easier on a console? What blasphemy is this?

"EA has taken the traditionally keyboard-and-mouse-centric controls of the RTS genre and adapted them for the Xbox 360."

There are 2 USB ports on the front of the 360 just begging to have a mouse and keyboard plugged into them...It can't be THAT hard to allow mouse/keyboard support for console games.

The controls for LOTR:BFME on 360 were mediocre, but still lacked the ease of the mouse/keyboard combo. I don't get why they won't suppport the only really good control scheme for RTS games considering all the hardware's in place.

I'm very excited.... despite the fact that it runs pretty well on my definitely aging computer, I really would like to be able to play it on my tv, with a comfy controller, and over Live. One thing though... why in god's name is it $59.99??? It's straight up robbery in broad daylight, and it's getting old. It's one thing to pay 60 bucks for something as mind-bogglingly jaw-dropping as Gears of War, but it's quite another to be charged 60 bucks for a sharper version of The Godfather. 60 dollar games are supposed to cover the cost of "next-gen game development"... I'm pretty sure it's just as "next-gen" on the pc, and the game retails for 10 bucks less on that platform. I call shenanigans on that.

Please, eliminate the mili second freezes that plagued BFMEII! I don't care about the frame rate as much (it was ok), but the pauses were extremely irritating.....

Im really looking forward to this game. It's just what the 360 needs, some more variety in the games library. As long as EA is very careful to make sure the control scheme works, I"m sure the game will be a success. I will probably be picking this one up pending positive reviews. These days games cost way too much to just blindly make a purchase no matter what the game is.

for the people saying that their graphics cards aren't that good for this game, you dont really need a high end video card to play this game at high settings. i play with everything maxed out at 1440x900 on my x1900gt (587/693) and get creamy smooth fps. a 7600 would probably be able to handle this game on all medium with good fps.

I'm looking forward to this release. Even though I'm historically a PC gamer, my PC needs an upgrade to play modern games, and I'm not ready to pay for that yet. So I might wind up with the 360 version.

Would be really nice if they let PC and 360 owners meet up online. Isn't that what the Windows Live! experience is supposed to do for us?

Command & Conquer 3 on the Xbox 360 is a GREAT game!

Being able to play Real-Time Strategy games like Command & Conquer 3, Lord or the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth, and the upcoming Halo Wars on the leading next-gen home console is a great thing, because it will let us sit back, relax, and look at our HDTV sets and listen to true 5.1 sound in our living room, while holding a controller in our hand while playing!

I agree...RTS really need a keyboard and mouse. It will be net to see how that new controller with keypad works but even then.

And I did play BFME and it worked better the I thought but still not as good.

Also fighting over a natural resource?...forget oil wait till we run out of water!

check out LOTR: BFME II on the 360 to see how well the 360 controller handles RTS.

Although there are some frame rate issues with BFME II on the 360 the control system is excellent.

I prefer to play rts games on a PC with mouse and keyboard but my current machine is way to old so I have to buy the 360 version if I want to play this in a near future, heh. I'm kinda concerned over the controls in the console version but It will probably feel pretty natural after playing for a couple of hours.

In an interview with Les Derni ères Nouvelles d'Alsace, Georges Fornay, president of Sony Computer Entertainment France, hinted at the possibility ... Said Fornay, "As far as Final Fantasy XIII goes, I can tell you that the exclusivity is in discussion." Square-Enix has yet to comment on Fornay's statement.

Hey kujel, PC might cost a whole lot more. But I can do a helluva lot more on my PC than I can on any console. So, if anything, you need to sit down and shut up. Prices of everything are on the rise: games, consoles, computer systems, computer components, etc. That's life. I accept that. So do everybody a favor and narrow down the scope of your argument before you go shooting your mouth off again.
