Lost composer gets Medal of Honor

Michael Giacchino will pen the soundtrack for the latest title in EA's war shooter franchise.

The composer of Lost, Alias, and The Incredibles has been enlisted to provide the music score for Medal of Honor: Airborne.

American Michael Giacchino was also the original composer of the theme music for the Medal of Honor series. His work on the popular TV series Lost earned him an Emmy in 2005 for Best Music Composition for a Series (Dramatic Underscore).

Medal of Honor: Airborne is the 12th in the series, which started in 1999 with the Medal of Honor PlayStation title. The latest version focuses on the experience of paratroopers in World War II, who were dropped behind enemy lines to wreak havoc among the German units.

Giacchino commented on his work for the latest Medal of Honor title, "Video games are another vehicle to tell a story, and music plays a vital role in that."

Medal of Honor: Airborne will be released on August 24 in Europe, and August 28 in North America for the Xbox 360 and PC, with a PlayStation 3 version also due to land in November.

If they delay the PS3 version till November I'm not gonna buy it... there are so many better games coming out in and around that period. EA always finds a way to lose a majority of the PS market.

well, this tells you something. EA, not playing. they know after MIDways huge flop, they cant make any mistakes. so, now we know there serious, and most likely this will be a good online mp game.

The medal of Honor games are all well and good, and I will continue to play each one as it comes out (except euro, never got it), but they need to follow CoD4's lead and get away from WW2. It's just so.....done! I think I've played every ally side possible....with the exception of the aussies

If they must stay in WW2, an axis campaign would be nice for a change. Anyway I look forward to picking this up at the end of next month (quite late for the music to just be starting recording, eh?) Gotta love that MoH theme song the first time you load up a new game.

I started from MOH #1, got underground, frontline, rising sun, and european assault... I liked all of them except for underground. The music is awesome too, especially European Assault. And I wish I could tell some1 they were stupid.. this has always been playstation.. and now xbox and pc are getting it before PS3? That's bullcrap... xbox has enough to hold them, and they already brag about the system enough without sony selling all their rights to them......

I'm glad he is back, after his work the new composers just reused it and changed it a bit. This MOH may finally bring back the series after many disappoints (rising sun, european assault, vanguard)

Since he won an Emmy in 2005 for best music composition for the show.

Oh man, best news I've heard in weeks. I guess fans of the original MOHs would rejoice. I happen to like the soundtracks of the first game, Underground, and Frontline. But I think we'll hear less of that old style, now that MOH is more about big battles instead of sneaking around behind enemy lines.

Agree with the below comments about "Pegasus Bridge". I loved how the noise--but not the action--of combat in that level gradually dimmed so that the quiet, almost reverential score could be heard. Neat touch.

I didn't even like most of the Medal of Honor games, but I've still paid attention to them just because I like the scores so much. I'm half tempted to pick them up again just to hear the music.

As good as the music in Call of Duty was, I found that Call of Duty 2''s soundtrack was more appropriate, and fit the theme of the game far better than Giaccino's did.

" Michael Giaccino is a great composer, just remember that classic and heroic music background that were composed on Call of Duty and the Medal of Honor theme...anybody remember "Pegasus Bridge" on Call of duty? "

Do I ever. I never played Call of Duty beyond the PC demo, but I've listened to some of the music and it is just fantastic. Pegasus Bridge is one of the most moving and emotional pieces I've ever heard. I love the way it reworks the powerful main theme of the game to beautiful effect. For those that want a taste:

Good orchestra music makes every game, especialy in FPS. And in my opinion, if the music sucks, the game sucks harder. But Ive always loved the music in medal of honor games (Frontline, the first, underground, a little bit of European assault) it realy adds to the experiance of all games.

Erm, Giacchino ALWAYS made the music for Medal of Honor. He started with "The Lost World" videogame for the PS1 and continued making music for videogames. The first 3 Medal of Honor videogames where composed by him.

GrimBee: Don't worry, Giacchino is one of the best composers for videogame soundtracks currently working in the field. Listen to the score for Medal of Honor: Frontline. You'll be pleased. If you read my blog "Score Double" on my profile page, you'll see that his scores feature quite a lot
