PS3 MOH: Airborne grounded until November

Sony console owners won't be able to strap on their jump boots in EA's WWII shooter until the fall.

In April, a trailer for Medal of Honor: Airborne debuted on online retailer GameStop's Web site. Though brief, the preview contained some big news: The latest installment in Electronic Arts' long-running series would arrive in stores on August 28, beating the fourth-quarter crush of releases.

Today, though, EA revealed that the trailer's release date only applied to the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. Tucked inconspicuously away at the bottom of the announcement that Lost composer Michael Giacchino would score the forthcoming World War II shooter was official word that the game would arrive "in November for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system." No explanation was given for the delay.

Much like the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, Medal of Honor: Airborne follows a group of US paratroopers as they jump out of a perfectly good airplane and into Nazi-occupied Europe. As outlined in GameSpot's previous coverage, the game will feature several missions based on actual WWII battles, such as D-Day and Operation Varsity, the largest military airdrop in history. Each mission will begin with a parachute drop to a starting point of the player's choosing, and will then become a free-roaming action game.

    We all know the reason for the delay, oh well I will just get it on the PC anyway. FPS's are better on the PC anyways, and there is so much FPS's coming out this holiday season i dont really care.

    Is it me But I just watched the HD version of this trailer. And the lighting is real weird. Vary cool, but kinda weird. They use tuns of lighting effects in this game it seems. And they give it a real wild look. Not perfectly real. But perfectly different. m not big on FPS. But I have played every MOH. And I used to play online on my PC alot. It just as something in the look "epically when I saw it in HD" I have not seen in other games.

    wando77, for your information, the PS3 is selling more than your crapy, always broke down 360, in a lot of places around the world, sure the 360 is out selling it in America, but that's only in America. in Aus and Japan, the PS3 is selling more. PS3 has sold 3.5 million consoles in almost no time. It's only been out in America and Japan for 9 months, and the rest of the world for 4 months. yes the xbox has more games now, but in two months some great ps3 games are coming out, so give it sometime. the first true xbox game that was worth anything was Gears of War, which was released 13 months or so after the 360 launched. In my opinion, Sony has done a better job on their first year of PS3 than Microsoft did on their first year of 360. At least we have great games to play like Resistance, Motorstorm, R6:V, and NGS. In November we are getting a library of great games that you will only dream of playing. Top that out with the reliability of the PS3. I can definitely afford an 360, but why would I want to buy that peice of crap only to have it break down. the warranty doesn't make the 360 appealing at all.

    Are you PS3 guys MORONS???? Quit with your rubbish about how the PS3 has only sold less because it's been out less time. SIMPLE FACTS -
    1) Wii came out at the same time and has sold THREE times as many consoles.
    2) XBOX 360 is STILL shifting more consoles than the PS3 in weekly sales.
    Are you guys totally deluded or something. You bought a crappy console and you come on here spouting to try and justify your purchase. 360 and Wii are cheaper, have better games, have more games, have more exclusives, 360 has live(tonnes better than ps3 online) & wii has virtual console, 360 has extended warraty to 3 years so who cares if it breaks cause its covered for THREE YEARS(lets that sink in), 360 gets all the good games MONTHS before the PS3 due to it being easier to program for. And don't begin to say they cost the same cause ps3 is £425 and xbox 360 premium is £229 on PLAY.COM. You can get 12months live on ebay for £25 and bt even give you 12months free live if you use their broadband. The hd-dvd drive is OPTIONAL(something you ps3 boys seem to forget). You bought a games machine NOT a dvd player and you always have the option to move to hi-def dvd later if you choose. Besides, most people dont have a hi-def tv and most that do use hi-res modes are using their pc screens(a 19/20" monitor will never do blu-ray or hd-dvd justice, you need at least 46" to do 1080p justice and if you dont beleive it read up on the MANY hd-tv sites or mags). If you choose to argue with these FACTS then you clearly haven't let each point sink in. Carry on holding out for MGS and Killzone 2 (which may even suck believe it or not) Laters losers.....I'm off to play colin mcrae dirt (something else you have to wait months for LMAO)

    indigovenom you aren't very bright. It IS the difficulty of programming and designing on the PS3. That is what killed the Saturn. Sony released a much easier system to work with, hence it got all the games. And dragonspank, this has nothing to do with developers, they don't HAVE to support the PS3, just like they didn't HAVE to support the Gamecube, Saturn, N64, Virtual Boy, Xbox, etc. The easiest system to develop for equals less money spent by the developer. And since the 360 has unified RAM, and less complicated, but equally powerful components, the games coming to 360 first won't end. And you can argue all you like, but unified VRAM in the 360 is proving to be the deciding factor. 256MB of ram isn't alot, hence the crappy framerates and sloppy textures on most ports to the PS3. It just can't do what the 360 can without some serious reowrking of the game. Oblivion does look great on the PS3, but it also came out something like a year later. EA is about making money, not impressing PS3 owners.

    yes he was fired or forced to retired. because before the announcement of his "retirement" he was in articles talking about his plans for the Ps4 & 5. which makes no sense with the lackluster sales of the Ps3 so far. i guess the CEO's of Sony thought he was an idiot to n said "retire or be fired...". why else would he walk away from his 'baby' like that when it needs the most help. either way, i'm done with this arguement. EA, get ur s**t together.

    What your looking at is the last days of the 360. Developers will have no choice buut to raise there brain levels to develope for the PS3. I see a lot of companies like EA looking like fools come this E3. If anyone from EA is reading this I just want to say one thing. All of you became video game designers to be the best.....and now your failing all your fans. Cut the crap, do your homework and start naking the right games for PS3. Your leaving sony no choice but to take what your giving them because they don't want to let there fans down.....just remember...what goes around comes back around.

    the problem is not the difficulty in developing on the PS3, its the companies choosing to start developing on the "lowest common denominator " . If they would develop on the PS3 then we would have a good release date instead of delays. its difficult to work on the PS3 now because every one is using the 360 to develop and then trying to do a direct port to a totally different machine that has more options.

    the explanation is plain and simple... the PS3 is hard to develop for so they develop the simpler versions for the PC and 360 First, and then proceed to move it to the PS3 (i.e. Rainbow Six Vegas). Usually they'll add some more content and take advantage of the massive space available on a Blu-ray Disc HOWEVER I personally would much rather have the game on a normal release date. At any rate, it just takes longer to develop a game for the PS3 just because the console's processor is so complex. I dislike that, because whenever I see a cool game on my friends 360 I need to wait like 6 months to buy it for ps3

    I sold my 360 and I'm getting a ps3. They delayed MOH because ps3 is just a lot more confusing. But I don't really care because Killzone 2 is gonna come out on ps3, so whatever.

    First, the man didn't get fired. second of all if that is the case the MS is scrambling. with over 33% of there consoles dying and losing 1.05 bil over it. not to mention they aren't doing so well in the numbers race themselves, special to have been out almost twice as long as both the PS3 and Wii. Not to mention MS has not made a profit off of its games division since they started. Nintendo is also scrambling, they don't have enough games to satisfy everyone and also the Wii is becoming a fad. More and more people that have bought it are also putting it to the side because its great for parties for a little while but not all the time. If sony is scrambling all the companies are scrambling cause they all have issues right now. MS is probably scrambling the most, with being in the lead over sony by only a very small margin. I say sony is not scrambling because scrambling is rushing around, so far i have only seen one company rush anything truely and that is MS scrambling to get those faulty 360's out to the stores before any other system came out. Someone retiring is not a reason to think a company is scrambling. in japan retiring is what they do often, move out the old guy to bring in the young guy. It happens.

    if they weren't scrambling they wouldn't have fired the actual creator of the orignal playstation and the ones after over the lack of success of the Ps3. the Wii came out around the same time the Ps3 did and they are almost to 11 million units sold already while the Ps3 hasn't even reach 4 million sold yet. you might not feel Sony is scrambling but i know they're over there trying to find some answers. anyone would in the situation they're in.

    sony is not scrambling. why would they be, they are still in the early phase of a new system. Trust me sony is fine. 360 has had more time, I mean what were people saying when the 360 came out, "there are no games". i mean no one was really raving about 360 until GOW came out several months later. So give PS3 its time to bring out its killer app. Anyway, to get on topic. The reason for this delay is this, a quote from EA about why they are doing this:

    Patrick Gilmore, executive producer, explained that both the Xbox 360 and the PC versions have always been further in development than the PS3 version.

    Gilmore stated that the PlayStation 3 version is looking good, but they just want to give a much more polished and complete experience.

    “I think it’s a great machine. We haven’t had as long, but the Cell processor is very, very powerful, and the challenge for any developer is figuring out how to leverage all that extra power… We’re a platform-agnostic company, so the challenge for Medal of Honor Airborne is always fully leveraging the platform, and not doing what some of our competitors do, which is cater to the lowest common denominator.”

    now, i wonder what the lowest common denominator is...hmm....

    i'm not biased at all and you Ps3 owners really needed to stop punching that ticket when it comes to this. my plan before the launch of both systems was to purchase the Ps3 because it is the better system...on paper atleast. i wasn't patient and wanted to get into the NexGen experience so i brought a 360 with enough left over for a Ps3. the problem i ended up having is that the Ps3 came out but i only saw one game i actually wanted...so i didn't buy it. months keep passing and i don't see any reason to buy one still. that's what most people are thinking who don't own one yet. but u guys are on here getting offended, lashing out at people just because they don't want to spend $600 dollars to sit n wish they had some games to play like you guys are. but i do plan on getting a Ps3 when it gets itself on track. but i agree, EA has been putting out low quality merchandise lately and they do need to make it more about making good games. but to say they should make the game for the Ps3 then port it to the 360 wouldn't be a smart business move, lol. the 360 has 11million systems sold to the Ps3's 4 million...do you really expect them to make it all about the Ps3 and forget about making good money for thier business!? only you guys are swept away with blind dedication to the Ps3 like that. did the CEO of Sony jump infront of a bullet for your mother or something? all this is making you look like u live in a dream world. like you guys don't try to make money in life, you know you do. but when they do it against and it's against your system thier corrupt and unsensitive to consumer needs. from my standpoint they're real user friendly though. most the games i'm going to get are on the Ps3 to but mines are going to run better and look as good or even better than the Ps3's...AND FOR LESS MONEY!!!

    Sony is scrambling right now over the problems the Ps3 is having while trying to figure out what to do. it's just funny to see you guys on here shouting out it's greatness like it already has done something great. it hasn't, yet. so keep holding the Ps3 up over your head like it's a worthy offering to God...i'll be happy to join you when it actually starts seeming like that.

    I sold my PS3. There is no compelling reason to have one right now, other than having a fancy piece of entertainment art deco in my living room. Maybe next year, but definately not now. Before you PS3 fanbois start **** let me just say; I bought all three consoles. I was hoping for a good start for Sony. But with a garbage line-up and nothing to play now, plus exclusives making it to more systems, there is no reason to have a PS3 right now, unless it's the only system you own. I have a Wii60, so until there are at least 10-20 solid, 8.0 scored, exclusive gaming experiences to be had on a PS3, I cannot justify having a $600 console to watch blu-ray movies. A standard that's no where near having a broad-based consumer acceptance. (Which is important, believe it or not.)

    Homelesstrees, you're spot on. I don't care what system stuff appears on, as long as it's good. And if we have 2 publishers controlling a ridiculous amount of the marketshare, where's the incentive for them to try harder?
    Black is my pet hate for a game because when I heard Criterion were making a shooter, I was over the moon. That was crap, and burnout's taking a turn for the worse. Why? because EA know the pwer of branding.

If not for EA owned (bought out is more accurate) studios EA has they would not have very much going for them besides the rather pathetic shell of a football game Madden has become. EA has, througout its life consistantly cut QUALITY and always tried to cash in on a quick buck. The fact that EA has bowed out and taken the easy road should not surprise anyone, Do you recall Dreamcast? They boycot it, it was easier to program than the PS2 at the time, but rather than make games for it they decided to skip it in favor of the market that they could take a hold of and cll their own. Smart business sence, yes, but these same tactics are being applied still today. These smart business tactics are not conducive to what makes a great game. Take publishers like Konami, and Capcom sure they have put out bad games, but NO WHERE NEAR the pile of filth EA has seen fit to release. History has taught me a great financial lesson and because of this I personally boycott most every EA title they come out with. Why buy third rate garbage? There are exceptions to be sure (Half Life, for me, being the only one).

    While it frustrates me to be the owner of the PS3 at times, I own a 360 and REMEMBER what their lineup was like pre GoW and I see what Sony has planned and what games are on the Horizon, and I laugh at people like you who only like to give the side of the story that makes them seem correct. Its no secret that publishers wish to turn games around quickly to make money. A higher install base and easier to develop for console affords 360 a lot of clout these days. If you people really love your respective consoles then you would know that the more competition there is the better it is for us gamers.

    Support the talented publishers and force the hacks to own up, or we all lose.

    This sucks. I love the ps3 and the games are surely but slowly coming, but it gets rattling after awhile that it comes later when this is a game im actually waiting for. Or how we get the shaft alot lately with games ie: R6 vegas. Im not a big fan of the whole 360 / PS3 debate, but times like these i regret getting one. Even on GS all the photo releases or newest stories cover 360 always then below it is ps3. Im assuming the same fellas as myself who invested in one are still waiting for Sony to make us a proud owner. Im not pleased enough with it =S

Ps3 owners just need to face the truth. the Ps3 has major problems right now, just admit it. but even as a 360 owner i know the Ps3 will probably get real strong later down the line (if it can't last much longer that is). just right now the 360 is smacking the Ps3 up and the Ps3 has to come up with something to rebound from all this. it's losing exclusives left and right and you guys yell and complain n threaten to boycott but no developer with any sense would stay a Ps3 exclusive right now. they don't even have 4 million systems sold to 360 (and soon the Wii's) 11 million. with all the work n money put in making these games to be a Ps3 exclusive they'd HAVE to take a serious financial loss especiailly with the kind of work that needs to be done to program for the Ps3. i understand you guys standing by ur choice n u should but to praise the greatness of the system when it's obviously failing RIGHT NOW is only making u look stupid. the system wars needs to stop...their just video games systems and you guys are acting like you want to gangbang over this mess. even sony is saying how great thier console is anymore....

    watch, i bet that even though it is coming out later than the 360 version...that it still wont be better. for example, look at rainbow six vegas...it got delayed so much...but it is still the same as the 360 version...as for online...they did add a few extra maps, but you can still download those extra maps of xbox marketplace.

    I am thinking that maybe the reason for the delay was so that EA could further develop the game to run properly on the PS3 hardware. The cell processor is really unique in it's own way so they may have to develop the game properly to take advantage of the Cell Processor. If they go and port the game on the same date, it might not run properly on the Cell Processor. I am not saying that's the real reason for the delay, I am just predicting that it could be the reason for the delay. It doesn't have anything to do with the American Developers being lazy or anything. I am sure some of them are trying their best to fully utilize the uniqueness of the processor for the PS3. Simply saying that American
    Programmers are too lazy to program for the PS3 is just a bit childish, no offense.

    Like it really matters this year. From the end of august on the number of top flight games is just plain crazy. The biggest worry for a lot of these publishers should be getting noticed in the flood. What is coming out this fall will take me all 2008 to buy, and most people are in the same boat. Meanwhile I can`t think of a single title to buy this month, and it`s my birthday. When you can`t even think of a third stringer to ask for its more than a little lean. When will publishers realize people game year `round?

    This game works on Unreal Engine 3.

    Which suxx on PS3.

    To date only ONE game with this engine WORKS on PS3.
    And it taken ONLY 7 months of porting.

    R6:Vegas.

    If game with less effects, slightly worse framerate and 1080i scaling problem is example of how UE3 works on PS3....
