Crysis coming November 16

[UPDATE] EA further crowds jam-packed holiday season by nailing down launch window for Crytek's groundbreaking PC shooter.

The fourth quarter of 2007 may go down as having the most high-profile releases of top-tier games in history, with the three months following Halo 3's September 25 launch being positively jam-packed with games. Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Lost Odyssey, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Warhawk, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, Half-Life 2: The Orange Box, NBA Live 08, NBA 2K8, Conan, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, EA Playground, Clive Barker's Jericho, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Need for Speed ProStreet, Assassin's Creed, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (PC), Gears of War (PC), The Simpsons Game, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, Virtua Fighter 5, TimeShift, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, World in Conflict, Beowulf, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2008, Army of Two, Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway, Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, SimCity Societies, Rock Band, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Universe at War: Earth Assault, SOCOM: Confrontation, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Devil May Cry 4, Unreal Tournament 3 (PC and PS3), Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NIGHTS, and many other titles are all currently scheduled to arrive before the midnight bells chime on December 31, 2007. The majority of those titles will arrive in November, after Grand Theft Auto IV's mid-October launch and before the end of the all-important holiday shopping season in mid-December.

Now, PC gamers can add one more title to their overflowing Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa shopping lists. During today's post-earnings report conference call, Electronic Arts CFO Warren Jenson narrowed the ship window for Crysis, the eagerly anticipated shooter from German developer Crytek. "We are now planning to launch Crysis in early November," he told analysts. Previously, the game only had a tentative 2007 release date.

[UPDATE] Early Thursday morning, EA announced an exact ship date for Crysis. The game will arrive on Friday, November 16, exactly one month after GTA IV. "We're thankful to our fans for their support and patience, and we're excited to bring them Crysis this year," said Crytek CEO and president Cevat Yerli in a statement.

Crysis is Crytek's first title since its groundbreaking 2004 game Far Cry. Ever since it was first unveiled at the 2006 Game Developers Conference, the game has caused mass salivation among shooter enthusiasts because of its high-intensity graphics. Most recently, it was named Best PC Game of E3 at the 2007 Game Critics Awards. To find out more about the game, check out GameSpot's ample previous coverage.

Um..... I have a Intel Pentium 4 dual core E6700 or something, 3 GB Ram, ATI Radeon 2400 HD Series and i can play on high settings perfectly, axcept at the end it lags alittle cause of the action so even with a crappy computer like mine (im using the new Alienware Laptop M17x now) you can play Crysis. So no worries about updating your computers unless yours is extremely old! if so i agree with f789790 just build one. Gert help if you dont know how. Oh, Crysis Warkead is one year older than this and it has hoirrible graphics compared to Crysis for some reason anyone else noticed that lol??????

Ibanez423, it should run full res since BioShock - also DX10 - can run max settings on my GTS as well @ 1680x1050. You'll need a fast CPU though for Crysis since it'll be more physics intensive so stick with Intel's Quad Core - btw, I'm no fanboy since I had a AMD 3400+ before my QX6700

I hope I can run Crysis on near max settings. I have a 8800 GTS and hope to get a quad-core AMD Phenom processor since Crysis is multi-threaded. And I agree with Lonelynight. Console fanboys keep to your consoles and get off our backs.

I just got a 8800 GTS to upgrade my Dell 9150, up from a Nvidia 6800. Also have xfi sound card, 2 gig ram and pentium D 930 3 Ghz. I really hope ican play crysis on high settings with a few things turned down. Guys please tell me the 8800 gts is good enough for this game as i cant get anything higher due to psu. Its technically the 3rd best card to get at mo, ahead of the 2900 xt hd even.

Should it be possible for me to get high settings then with an xfi soundcard, 4200+ amd dual core, 2 gig corsair and an 8800gtx running in vista? hope its not going to need a quad core to max this game out.

2Gb is more than enough no need to get anymore than that.
You should be able to run it on med-high to High settings, however The developers of Crysis have designed the game to have special graphical settings that no computer or graphics card out at the moment can use therefore ensuring that it stays upto date with even more powerful graphics cards to come out in the future.

So With my core 2 duo 2,4 (running at 3 Ghz) and a 8800GTX It must be possible to play on high grafics I suppose? Is 2GB memory enough, or better get 2 GB more?

  • FF-Tidus

    Posted Aug 8, 2007 2:20 am PT

Yeah u will be able to play crysis on med-high settings,

The recommended specs for High detail on Crysis are as follows:-

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 processor
    2Gb RAM
    8800GTX Graphics

So u should be fine with ur system as it is!

well. I have a intel core 2 duo 2.0 Ghz, a Geforce 8500 GTS, 2 GB ram (what else is there to mention?)
anybody think i'll still be able to play the game? even on a really, really low setting?

Honestly though, I appreciate the 'Christmas Rush' but don't you think some of these people would make serious cash by coming out in March-April when there are no competitors for your cash? Some of these games are just going to get lost in the shuffle/masses because there are only so many games you can buy/play at one time. Wish Game companies would learn to stagger the games out a bit. Summer becomes a dead zone because everyone holds their titles for x-mas...

I doubt that to be honest, look at games like F.E.A.R when they came out - my 6600gt barely played that when it came out.

Going by that my system at the moment AMD 64 3700+ / X1800XT will struggle to play this on anything higher than low... Hence my forthcoming upgrade.

Far Cry Ran very well on 1.8GHz P4,256 MB ram, nvidia 5200 fx. They are not fools who design a game such that only 4 people in world can play crysis(Crytek, EA, Bill, Bush). They heavlly optimize games to be scalable. so dont worry and a game at medium pr high settings is normally very playable. so dont worry for crysis, unreal 3, half life 2 ep 2, a 6600Gt will play them and a 7600 gt will be sufficient to play them at reasonable quality. As a matter of fact unreal 2005 can run on intel cards in software mode and at reasonable quality 640x480 if u have a geforce 4000 even. These games have a long history of being scalable. But some games unjustily demand much though they have lower graphics. It is only a mtter of optimisation effort by developer. and crytek, epic, valve has always optomisedtheir games to the limit or otherwise such cutting edge graphics are not possible untill they utilize awilable hardware fully.

The genre of gameing is a good one this year indeed.

There is always a constant argument about systems and what to buy, why consoles are better than pc...ect.

What difference does it make where a game comes from and what platform it will be utilized on? No matter what hardware you have we all share the same interest. We love gameing and we wish and hope everyone can enjoy a good experience while playing.

There are similarity benefits to consoles and desk to pc's. Consoles are in fact eveolving to mimic the pc's, yet they can never be as complex as a home computer. This doesnt mean that microsoft and sony wont keep trudging on to gain more of the masses.

Its apparent to all of us that consoles rehash games of the past and right big checks to game developers to write new games of the future exclusively to them. These are contracts, yet when the contract runs out the developers sell the rights to other companies, be it pc or a console.
Meaning we all will eventually play the game on what we own.

The pc requirements are indeed next gen. But how much do we really know until we try the game itself.

Buying a new rig to play this game is a good investment as long as you have all of your other financial priorities up to date. The track record of the developers alone is enough to trust what they design as being a reason to spend our hard earned cash to play the game the way it was designed to be played.

Reading alot of these previous posts, recommending certain hardware upgrades, I encourage most of you not to get your information here. Direct yourselves to more reputible sites where people actual test numerous amounts of hardware before coming to a conclusion of what is the best.

There was a guy who stated he just bought a 8800 card and would be angry if they release the 9800xt's. The release of this card wouldnt be enough for you to drop your drawers and sholvle out another $600 to tell your friends, "I have the latest and greatest." Many of the cards coming out can't add more to an already saturated Video card market. These new cards will only prey on your addiction to spend more unecessary cash. Face it thier offerning OC version of a previous card and calling it a different name. Both ATI and NVIDIA are guilty of this.

So lets all try to get along as we wait patiently for a game that needs no demos our special introduction.

Your system will have no problem with it lol, tho The AGEIA card will do nothing for you because Crytek isn't to my knowlege using or giving game support for that Physx Card.

Ps. Vista is just Pretty but with alot of problems, IMO please stay away from it until a service patch comes out for it.

Crysis, Unreal Tournament, and Orange box are the greatest games on that list. I'm also looking forward to Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, Warhawk, Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Army of Two, Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Assault, SOCOM: Confrontation, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Devil May Cry 4, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Since Resident Evil is the only wii game I want, its no point in buying a whole console for 1 game. I'll just wait until my cousin has it or rent and and bring it to his house.

    Kool_j um
"no they also said it runs in ultra high on 8800GTS, 2GB RAM and e6600 with smooth fps. u mean they said that in 3 years they will be using technology that will come out to make it look even better. ovb. u can run it ultra high cause they have been playing in ultra for demos and trailers."

Once again someone that can't / doesn't read

CY: At E3, we were running on a [GeForce] 8800 video card and a dual-core Intel [CPU]with 4 gigabytes of RAM at very high settings. Not the highest, though! Most of the time, it was running smoothly.

And yes the spec of that game won't be able to be run on ultra for a few years as quoted by Crytek themselves.

But this just means the longevity of this game will be years!

It's gonna look amazing on high"ish" settings and you'll be able to get this with a 8800GTS 320mb, you just cant run it at 1920x1200 and so on

  • broca

    Posted Aug 3, 2007 5:26 am PT

Thats not really true Humorguy_basic. How much is a PS3? about £400?
you can get a new good spec motherboard, CPU and GCard for that.

Besides, game developers are striving to make their games work on low end PC's and the gameplay will be just as good, you just wont get all the nice graphics.

And as I said in my post before, to get the HD graphics a PS3 or xbox360 offer then you're gonna need a HDTV - How much are they?

And if you dont think you need a HDTV then thats the same as playing it at low resolution so it will be just the same as a low end PC

  • Spookhouse1

    Posted Aug 3, 2007 5:22 am PT

thats good to know, i was worried that it was another delayed into 08 games. I only hope that EA/Crytek release a demo before, due to the graphics and system intensive nature of the game will not buy unless i know i can run the thing, though given EA record, it seems likely.

  • Humorguy_basic

    Posted Aug 3, 2007 5:14 am PT

A well defined group of hardcore gamers here. But the general gaming market? They will buy one or two games for two different genres that will run on whatever PC they have this 4th quarter. I still say the quantity doesn't matter, and not even the quality, it about what hardware is needed to run them. What does it matter how good Crysis is, for example, if you don't have/cannot afford a Vista machine? Same goes for all the other PC games. It would seem the vast majority are going to need a high end machine. One that gamers leaving messages here may have, but most gamers don't.

So by all means get exicited that you have a long list of games you want to buy because you know they will all run on your uber PC, but think about everyone else who may find only three or four of the titles will run on their PC setup and the cost of being able to play more will run into £100's -making the consoles more attractive and potentially leaving an even smaller PC games market, not a larger.

Look at the big picture folks, not just your little world of your £2,000 setup you bought last month!

Well... Grand Theft Auto isn't in this list for 2007 games now

I can't wait for crysis to come out! But it is a shame it will cost me about £500 to play it as I need a serious upgrade! I think, unfortunately, I will have to wait a bit to play this.
