Okami prowling on Wii

Capcom enlists the help of Ready at Dawn to bring Clover Studios swan song to Nintendo's console next spring.

Just prior to its dismantling, Clover Studios finished a pair of PlayStation 2 games that stood out from the pack: God Hand, a fighting game with an over-the-top style to match its daunting difficulty, and Okami, a critically acclaimed adventure game that added a unique "celestial brush" gameplay mechanic to a framework reminiscent of the Zelda series. Today, a full year after Capcom first announced that it would be dissolving Clover, word has arrived that the publisher is porting Okami to the Wii.

With Clover gone, Capcom has turned to another highly regarded developer to bring the game to the Wii. The Wii port of Okami will be developed by Ready at Dawn, the studio behind the highly regarded Daxter on the PlayStation Portable and the highly anticipated God of War: Chains of Olympus, which is also for the PSP.

As would be expected, the game's controls will be revamped to make use of the motion-sensing Wii Remote. For example, players will use the controller as if it were main character Amaterasu's celestial brush, painting symbols to invoke powers that help solve the game's puzzles. Okami is expected to see release on the Wii in spring 2008.

To the people below worrying about it not being clover studios.
This is going to be a port, not much can go wrong with a simple port, look at Resident Evil 4? been ported from the Gamecube to the Ps2 then to the Wii. It was fine so will this.

If not it will still be worth buying just because its a lovely game.

Um this sounds great except the game is not being made by Clover. So I am not sure it will turn out so great.
But its a port, what can they do wrong?

Why is it Spring 08, yet GameSpot lists it as Q3 08? Last I checked, Spring is either late 1st quarter or 2nd quarter.

Been toying with getting this on the PS2 for some time, but it sounds like an ideal release for a post-Zelda funk!

If I can drag myself away from Oblivion for five minutes...

Okami is an awsome game!!! At least it was two years ago when I finished it on the PS2. This is why my Wii mostly just sits in my entertainment unit next to my PS3 doing nothing unless my extended family is over. n Wii sports showed us that there's so much to this console and so much potential, but instead of mining that potential Nintendo's just been doing 1-5 year old ports. Jesus H Christ, develop some games with controls as smooth a Wii Sports for the system.

I was wondering why this game wasn't a Wii game. I mean, I would think that painting attacks would be one of the most original Wii concepts. It's a shame my PS2 broke down before I could play this game. Finally, justice...

awesome. Okami's art style will work well with the Wii.

I also like the idea of painting symbols with the Wiimote.
Lets just hope religious fanatics don't go spouting off about it being an evil magic game that subtle introduces satan to youngins.

Clover was dissolved because of bad sales... It's really sad, since the games they made were awesome.

God Hand is a classic Beat 'Em Up game in a 3D environment, with an action-RPG touch.

I haven't played it yet, but it is my girlfriend's favorite game. Of what she tells me, it'll be great. The Wii is a great place for this game and I don't mind it being a port either. Since Clover isn't doing it, they chose someone else to do it. I don't want them the tinker with what Clover created. It just isn't right for the new developer to add or take away content. They should put it in progressive scan and perfect the controls. Then it would be even better than the PS2 version. No new content necessary. That's what I think.

A PS2 with a new controller? I think not, it's more like a GAMECUBE with a new controller, but i digress.... A CHEAP PORT???? Okami was one of the best and most original games on the PS2 and now even more people can experience it. I plan on getting it again just to have the new controls, just like i did with RE4. Seriously, just the thought of getting to use the wii remote as the celestial brush has me drooling. Stop being a snob and lighten up a little.

And to all the people calling for an original Wii game that doesn't suck: there's a little game out there called "Metroid Prime 3", go pick that up if you want something awesome.

Love Okami! This is great for all the people who never had the oppertunity to play it. I may buy it again if it has enough new features and if the gameplay is better (dont know how thats possible though, Okami's gameplay was great on the ps2). I must go play that beautiful game again.

Cheap port. It looks like the Wii is just a ps2 with a new controller. I didn't pay $250 to play games I can play on my PS2. Let's see some NEW, EXCLUSIVE games!
    You'll like November 12th and February 10th.
