PC Gears of War golden

Epic Games' brutal sci-fi shooter now menacing factories in anticipation of November 6 release.

Having sold more than 4 million copies worldwide and being the recipient of numerous awards, including GameSpot's 2006 Game of the Year, Epic Games' Gears of War isn't a game that needs much of an introduction. Suffice it to say, Microsoft announced today that the PC version, announced during this year's E3 Media and Business Summit, has gone gold and will be churning the retail cogs on November 6.

As with its Xbox 360 counterpart, Gears of War on the PC features Marcus Fenix and his merry band of thick-necked brutes saving the planet, one eviscerated Locust at a time. The PC version adds five new levels to the original game's campaign, as well as three exclusive multiplayer maps and a game editor for creating user-generated levels.

The PC version also includes the seven multiplayer maps and annex game mode released as downloadable content over Xbox Live. As a Games for Windows - Live title, it will also feature achievement points and online matchmaking for Gold subscribers. Unlike other Windows - Live games, it will be able to run on both the Windows XP and Vista operating systems.

Gears of War for the PC is rated M for Mature and will retail for $49.99. For more on the new additions to Epic Games' shooter, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Com'on M$...give us paupers a little demo so we can have a taste of the game before shelling out our hard earned $50....

ALthough I heard that it is a great game on 360...but after the Halo2 example, it is no longer for granted that a good 360 game makes a equally great PC transplant....really want to see the demo before purchase....

But according to fileplanet, it seems that the demo is not likely to come out before the acutaly game, in which case will make the demo absolete for the review would be up on GS.....but still...better know what you are buying....for who knows what's going to be in that fancy big GoW box...hehe......

now here's the thing? am I going to need a paddle to play, or will my handy dandy mouse do all my shooting. I was sorely disappointed when I had to use a paddle for Res Evil 4 for pc...it would have been so much cooler with a mouse to shoot with...that's why I like FPS for PC better.

This game came out for the 360 & the game was a success. Now PC gamers are going to get an even greater experience with the addition with a bonus level & boss unlike the 360 version. I myself never owned a 360 nor the games. PC GAMING ROCKS and Gears of War is finally going to hit the PC realm. Now of course people are going to have to upgrade the PC's to keep up with their gaming. It may seem expensive at first to just go out and purchase a brand new spanking PC it's worth, including building it yourself. Gears of War is a graphical tour de force.

Sweet. And I'm building a new PC, so now I know how to christen it! I really don't understand the fanboy thing; if it's a great game, why wouldn't you be thrilled that more people can play it? I prefer FPS and RPGs on the PC; I like action games on console. It's just a matter of preference and affordability. Get over it. I have a 360; I'm getting GoW for PC, because that's where I want it. To daveg1: Every game released under the Games for Windows banner is programmed to work with a 360 controller, which is part of the label's requirements, along with the Live multiplayer capabilities.

Fan-freakin-tastic, another made-for-console game lovingly ripped onto my PC. Thank you Microsoft for buying all the good developers so that I can struggle with controls not made for my keyboard, but hey I could always buy an Xbox controller for my pc!! What a great bloody idea. Well having blown off some steam at least I enjoyed playing this title on my friends 360 so I have some hopes for a decent build.

Unfortunately, as bugged as my XP/Vista partition is, I'm be getting it for XP. I'm not shelling out to get a better processor just becuase Vista and GFW drains my CPU to awful levels.

The sad thing in itself is that if I had better knowledge of the source code and acess to it, I could probably make Vista and GFW more effecient. But the only way to do so is to work for Microsoft, and I don't want to go to hell.....

The extra content can't be released on Live because the pc version is using a different engine. They'd have to reprogram the new content. I think they said the new content can't be on the engine the 360 uses.

Gears of War kept me busy for a LONG time on Xbox Live, the only reason I stopped was because of Halo 3's launch, I had some good time with GoW and it's cool that they made a PC version. It would be nice if Epic released the extra content on Live
