Metal Gear Solid 4 delay liquefies Konami stock

The company's stock price had its largest one-day drop in four years after the second postponement of the PS3 exclusive.

Konami put out a statement yesterday explaining that game hero Solid Snake's latest outing, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, would be delayed to the second quarter of 2008. It was the second major delay for the game, which had originally been scheduled for this holiday season.

Meant to be released in "winter," the game was set back again so that "further improvements" could be made, the company said. Gamers were dismayed--and so, it seems, were shareholders.

Konami shares plummeted 6.8 percent to ¥3,160 (about $27.50) at the mid-morning break on the Tokyo stock exchange, reports Bloomberg. It was the largest drop for the company's stock since December 8, 2003.

UFJ analyst Hirotoshi Murakami commented, "Investors were active sellers today because of disappointment over the delay. It may be the company's strategy to boost earnings next fiscal year with the game software."

    If and that's a BIG IF, Metal Gear Solid 4 goes to the 360 the game will be completely worthless. They would cut so much out of the game MAYBE it would be 2 discs long. You would be getting such an inferior game that the value of it will drop and no body will buy it....Now where have I seen that before...OH YA! Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. X-Box fans got the inbred half retarded cousin of the real Substance. And I laugh in their faces for it.

    If Konami don't care about the fans, then the game would be released a long time ago.They don't care if the games full of bugs or if it looks like S*** cauze "they dun give a F*** about the fans". If konami reali wanted to make cash they would have anounced the game going multiplat a long time ago.(No Offense to the MGS fans)XP

    Yeah it does suck....but look at the bright side.

    If they release it now...we'll all be complaining about bugs and things left out.
    But...if we stay patient, we'll get an even greater package, without worrying about AS much as we would if Konami would have listened to us all and our lack of patients lol.

    I'm disappointed with the delay, but I doubt I'll be disappointed when it comes out. In the past, there have been delays for MGS, but since Mr. Kojima and his team are such perfectionists, I think we're in for a real treat. It's better to wait for a great game, than to rush things and get a steamy turd. Personally I'm sorta glad it's not here yet, because it gives me time to save up for my PS3; and I know I'm not the ONLY guy who hasn't played MGS4, so it's not so bad.

    May I please add my $0.02. Metal Gear Solid 4 will come to the xbox 360 because Sony didn't buy the exclusivity rights and also Konami needs to make the only thing that matters to them, the green stuff. When it comes to money companies don't give a **** about the fans and when they look on the internet and see the demand for a 360 version of MGS4 being as big as it is they will release it. And what does it matter if it does go multi-platform? Ps3 owners still get to play the game first as it would take a year or two to convert it to 360 and when the 360 version comes out then alot more people will get to play. There is no need to get worked up about these things!

    Wow, you people hurt my head. The creator of Metal Gear Solid Snake said,"I will stay true to Playstation" Which means, there will be in no way a Solid snake on XBOX... Xbox tries to steal another thing from playstation could it be because their scared....(by the way why do xbox controllers look so familiar?) That reminds me...Home is comming out....can't wait for Xbox to try and copy that too...the Wii is a PG13 system but atleast their smart enough to have free online play....cough cough F*gBox mite wanna take some notes....but....well just wait into the naruto ps3 is finnished and compare and don't even try to say...ps3 is copying xbox with naruto....naruto has always been playstation and nintendo

    you 360 fanboys are soooo dumb. mgs4 will never come out for the 360. its going to be a ps3 ''greatest hit '' . it woulndt make sence either. there is no mgs3 so the story would not make sense . ya im sounding like a ps3 fanboy but it is the truth plus the 360 version would have 6 disks. the blue ray disks have way more memory than any old360 disk. mgs4 on the wii sounds plain stupid .its good they delayed this game it would be better than any 360 or wii game.

    p.s. i gave my wii to my sister because is sucks

    I don't care how many times it is delayed all i want is the game to be perfect. And putting it on the 360 would allow konami to make more money but it is just a better experience on the ps3. It will fit one disc and will be in HD. If it were to be for the 360 it would be like the ps2 days like final fantasy having 4 disc's lol i remember those days.

    As the dev costs of this title spiral up & up it only makes it more likely that it WILL be on the 360 @ some point , that is if Konami want to make some real $$$ from this title . PS.     Lol you guys always bashing the ps3 accept the truth is the ps3 is actually finally becoming successful god of war 3 will be ps3 exclusive if you say its not then your dumb because Sony owns it MGS4 will be exclusive for at least a few years because Sony has a contract Drakes Unforted Island is exclusive haze is exclusive Kill zone 2 is exclusive Gran Terismo HD is exclusive Ratchet and Clank was as well so will be Final Fantasy.

    And the system is at 400$ finally and it’s very powerful 400$ for blu ray technology is outright amazing plus the systems power it self. PS3 is finally on a role and I think some of you guys hate to see it.

    @ Nolan16 : a Guy from KONAMI said: " whats the big deal of Blu-Ray ? its just a storage meduim" and when asked about if they will be able to fit it on DVD he said :" we will be able to do something about it, whether reduce textures or split the game into half, konami will do something about it" or something among these lines .... So no you got it wrong there.. just because its a blu ray game, doesn't mean it cannot be ported to other platforms JUST 4 THAT, btw, he didn't actually say they will port, he was just commenting on this blu ray fuss ... PEACE^^

    1. It can't go to 360 because Sony and Konami have a contract ever since 360 started taking over the gaming industry. 2. Blu ray disks are huge it's nearly impossible not to be able to fit the game on a Blu ray disk it can hold twice as much as a 360 disk, one of the reason you wont see it on 360 the other is because Sony jumped on Konami as soon as the ps3 was released and paid them money for a contract, You might see a 360 version a year or two later but that at best.

    3. I've been a metal gear solid fan since number 1 and the last time they dropped liked that was when they delayed metal gear solid 2 which became one of the top 100 games of all time and got a 9.8/10

    So Konami is great unlike EA, Which will just release it because they don't want to loose money Konami will work on it more and make it to a level that the game is epic and outstanding.

    Disappointed about the delay but still, this WILL be another hit game from Kojima and you must admit it looks amazing

    ps, there are a lot of ex Sony people on this page. This time next year the 360 will be history. You may think I am a 'fanboy' but I tried with the 360. I went through 7 premium consols and 2 Elites before giving up on the 360. My PS3 and Wii work perfectly.

    Only $27.50 per share?, I wouldn't mind having a few small nibbles of Konami. So MGS is slightly delayed again, its not like the company is going to be going anywhere, anytime soon. The markets are so shaky these days, the slightest change in profit or revenue sends your company into the hole now.

    This means we should all buy stock in Konami now because it can only go up once the game is actually released. Plus this has been announced a PS3 exclusive. No 360 counterpart. I'm not being a PS3 fanboy I'm just stating what has been announced from Hideo Kojima. Being an owner of all 3 consoles I love Exclusives, it cuts out the wondering of which console do I buy any Games on???

    oh, and by the way IKKF, i think it would be delayed way further if they were making it for both consoles. they go on record consistantly saying that they could not have possibly done this game on any other console, which i know isn't true, just that it would be very difficult to cram it all into a 360 game.
