Namco planning spring We Ski trip

Publisher confirms its alpine-sports-themed Wii title is headed for US within the next few months; title supports Wii Fit balance board.

Less than a week after it announced it was bringing its multiplatinum Tales franchise to the Wii, Namco Bandai has unveiled another title for Nintendo's console--We Ski. According to the publisher, the game will arrive in North America in the "spring," around the same time snow at real-life ski resorts begins to melt.

Released earlier this year in Japan as Family Ski, We Ski aims to re-create the experience of hurtling down a snow-covered mountain slope. As revealed during last month's Game Developers Conference, the game will achieve that goal by being the first third-party game to support the Wii balance board, which will be released bundled with Wii Fit on May 19.

We Ski will also feature a single massive mountain ski resort with a range of runs, from green to double black diamond. Players can either use the Wii Nunchuk and Remote by themselves or in combination with the board "for additional realism," according to Namco. Events include such downhill staples as freestyle skiing, moguls and slalom, with night skiing and photograph contests thrown in for good measure. Players can either import their Mii avatars into the game or create all-new characters with dozens of accessories, such as skis, poles, goggles, and other assorted snow gear.

Unfortunately for fans of other means of downhill conveyance and would-be virtual Shaun Whites, Namco informed GameSpot there will be no snowboarding options in the game.

I smell another tech demo. If you are going to make a Ski resort game, make it have snowboards and the like at least...

Well the graphics sure look as lame as the wii sports game. so I agree that's why trhey chose to call it We Ski, not to be confused with a mini game.

@okassar I like that they chose to have it We Ski instead of Wii Ski because if it was Wii Ski some people might think it was in the Nintendo Wii series of games like Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wii Fit, also Nintendo probably has a Patent so no other company can use Wii infront of there games, Camelot has a We Love Golf game for the wii it was suppose to come to the PC and it was suppose to be titled I Love Golf.
Also this game looks interesting I don't Ski but it would be great for people who like to ski but can't ski in the Summer.

No,how about Wii Ski?That's a no brainer,I mean you could obviously make the we connection with the Wii but it should be Wii Ski.Doesn't look that bad,I just hope they don't underwork it and base it soley on the motion sensing like most Wii games, with an exception of big hitter like Zelda and Mario.I like how you could import the avatars though

They should have just called it Ski. We SKI makes me think of the time when the Chinese tried to rip off the Wii by making something called Vii.

If this game turns out great it might convince me to get the balance board. Until there are more good games for the balance board wii fit is a no sale for me.

Doesn't seem like a bad idea at all and should hopefully start to show ways that the balance board can be used outside of Wii Fit. I'm looking forward to this title and many others that will follow making great use of the balance board. Oh yea, and also I can't wait for ToS II either. =p
