Europe getting Hazed May 23

Free Radical's PS3-exclusive first-person shooter has been given a precise target in the UK and EU; NA release date still foggy.

In February, Haze was slated for May, but gamers were perhaps loathe to actually believe it, since the game had originally been planned for a release in the first half of 2007. The release date was then shifted to sometime before the end of March this year, and then put back further, to autumn.

Now Free Radical Design's first-person shooter for the PlayStation 3 has been given its (hopefully) final release window in the UK and the rest of Europe. Today, Ubisoft announced the PS3 exclusive will ship on both sides of the English Channel on May 23. The sci-fi shooter still remains without an official North American launch date, although online retailers are listing it as hitting stores on May 20.

The Haze date sets up an interesting battle. Yesterday, Electronic Arts announced that Rock Band would be coming to European shores as an Xbox 360 timed exclusive on the same day (albeit at a price of about £180 once peripherals are included).

Haze is set in the not too distant future, where governments have been outsourcing their military operations to private military corporations (PMCs). One PMC, Mantel Industries, has its troops dosed up on a drug called Nectar, which gives them heightened senses, reflexes, and strength.     I used to want this game... alot. But now I have a feeling it's going to be a letdown. GT5 and GTA4 are all I'm looking forward to in next month. I'll prob get or rent Haze... but it's been so long the hype has come and gone. it's blah.

    you cant honestly wish for them to cross platform this, i mean think about all the exclusives for the 360 and now you complain when you get the first glance at how the future will be when the PS3 pushes the 360 fully into its place.

    BigSmitts07: Well the producer said that it's a PS3 exclusive and he was pretty pissed at all the people who kept asking whether it's a PS3 timed exclusive or not.
    It's been confirmed for PS3 only.

    I really hope this game is up to it's reputation.... I'll be getting it more than likely unless it gets a really low review rating or it has a really short single player mode.

    Lots of additional great games coming out for the PS3!! YES!

    wow, yeah Fourty, I didn't know that. If halo was on ps2 that game would have been so incredible in sales. PS2's are still selling.

    I really don't understand the hate for this game that hasn't even come out and that seems to be using some pretty interesting ideas... It looks solid to me. Nothing out of the ordinary but still a great title. They did shoot themselves in the foot releasing between GTA 4 and MGS 4. But hey better late than never. And I seem to be saying this alot lately but here's a little saying by Shigeru Miyamoto "A delayed game will eventually be good. A bad game is bad forever."

    All this pushing back for what? A game that might not even get a decent review? I'm tired of this date dropping and then disappearing act devs/publishers are doing lately. They act like their games are like movies. Movies have pissed my off with the same garbage tactics, but they usually don't push back dates... unless they movie in question has some serious issues, like it SUCKS! This is true for games too, so Haze is looking bad right now.

    While the kiddies argue below, I'd just like to say that they've delayed this game so many times now that unless its awesome its gonna be a total anti climax... and tbh I think its an 8.0 game tops I hope I'm wrong.

    There's a reason the PS3 doesn't break down as much the 360. Duh!!! People don't play it nearly as much. Of course it's not going to break down as much. It's just a Blu-Ray player. Duh!!!

    This looks like one of the better BS3 exclusives (which isn't saying much). The only game I'm really looking forward to on this lame system is FF. But, I'm still going to fork over $400 to purchase the BS3 in the next month or so because its the only Blu-Ray player worth owning - that is, the only player capable of playing all the Blu-Ray movies out, not just the old ones. This game looks great, but knowing the BS3 true capabilities, I'd be surprised if it wan at more than 20 fps. Still, at some point, I'll probably get it - but only if the reviews are good.

    This game better not suck, I'm still trying to work out why I bought a PS3 as I've had almost no use out of it since release, they need to offer up some goods to justify the 500 quid or whatever it was that I spent, I've got the arse with it already. Good job the faithful 360 doesn't let me down or I'd have nothing to play

    I saw this game in action and in hi-def and it looks like a higher quality Halo 2 on the original xbox. It looks like a cookie cutter game made to satisfy the lack of original and exclusive games for the PS3. I want a PS3 but I still have no reason to buy one.

    cool, its coming from the guys who made Timesplitters, so it should be good.

    The story does look interesting and so does the gameplay.

    Well Apparently I can't voice my opinion. I would have liked this game to be on the 360 because I own one. I am NOT intentionally trying to make anyone mad because I don't like it being PS3 exclusive. How many people were excited to have this game then have their dreams crushed by a cancellation. Sorry If my overly simplistic response offended anyone.

    free radical are a great company. im still yet to reserve judgement on weather the bluray3 i bought is capable of being a games console (and not just a bluray player) without mgs and gt5 (not prologue-the real one that wont come out for millenea) im not sure if this game is it yet. back to my elite for now...

    Haze! this game has no loading screens. I havent played an FPS that doesnt have loading screens yet. Its going to be a very awesome game! very very awesome If not.. i may edit this comment at some point in the future lol. Haze not going to Xbox360 = Good. Because there wouldnt have been so much effort put into the game. Look at how the game was ment to be when it was multiplatform and look at it now. Much better

    rocoswav i agree with that. The 360 has no good games this year. unless you say gow 2 is a good game than i guess it has one. In my opinion its complete doodie.

    Why does every fps game that has some hype have to be called a halo killer? I know im going to like this game. But why do people think halo is so great. So every fps game that is going to get a 8 score or higher is being called a halo killer. I think if anything they should call these games COD4 killers. Like halo has no means of being a killer app for anything. It just sold alot. Call of duty 4 is at least 9 times better than that piece of ball hair would ever be. yeah i know haze is going to be pretty good but, they should try to compare it to a better game like cod4, or some game with better means than old gameplay and really old online.

    zeferU is right!!! I have gone through 3 xbox360s and I'm tired of it. My PS3 has been perfect. I think Microsoft is just in it to get as much money as possible out of people. Thats why you have to pay extra for EVERYTHING.

    Want to know why there are people that promote PS3 and putdown 360? Heres my reason! I Have a xbox 360 elite and I have sent it in 3 times know for repairs this is getting rediculous. I have had my PS3 since launch and guess what it still works perfect. Another thing I hate about XboxLive is that it cost money per month WTF I allready pay for the internet. Some may argue well its a better network or we get more DLC in our games so let me get this right. M$ cant make their money to run their Xbox live by selling addons for games alone they have to tax people another 5$ a month for it? 60$ for a game+???$$for the DLC and $30+ for a good ISP and they still want a fixed rate for their online service. I will agree that the LIVE service is amazing and simple but look at Xfire for the PC it has all the networking functions of Xbox live and is free.. well not all the functions but the Joining of games and managing a freinds list are all there. also 360 failure rate second paragraph pathetic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems

    PS3 failure rate ,, well from what I have saw on the net so far its actually less than 1% and that is amazing. I am not a fanboy I am a well informed consumer......
