DualShock 3 dated down under

New rumble-enabled PlayStation 3 controller to debut in Australia on April 24.

Sony's DualShock 3 controller for the PlayStation 3 came out in Japan late last year and debuted in the United States just last week, but until now, Aussie gamers have had no indication as to when they could expect the new peripheral. It seems we won't have long to wait, however, as Sony has confirmed that the DualShock 3 will be available in Australia on April 24 for A$99.95 ($92) and in New Zealand on May 9 for NZ$109.95. In the US, the controller retails for $54.99.

Say hello to the DualShock 3.

The controller features the same motion-sensing technology that the Sixaxis has built in, so it's backwards compatible with most PS3 games. Some games in the PS3 back catalogue already support rumble, while others will have it added via a patch.

Last week, GameSpot confirmed that Sony had discontinued the Sixaxis controller from production, making the DualShock 3 the default controller from here on in. At the time of publication, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia could not confirm when the company would start shipping PS3s with DualShocks in the box or if the games compatibility list in America differs for Australia.

    The prime example - Silent Hill series. Without eumble you are unalerted of the option to die :/
    If rumble is available, your controller will vibrate as a heartbeats, thus alerting the player, that medications should be applied. And quick.

    I reckon Sony did this on purpose, they are smart, give us a no rumble controller then come out with the good one a year later for MORE bloody money, and i'm still gonna have to buy one, the games are $120 get stuffed for a second and give us this cheap, im working my ass off just to buy every good game. ive got 16 games thats umm whats 16x$120??? Oh and stormtrooper88 what are you a baby? Waah the dualshock 3 is too heavy for my tiny little girl arms, Harden the Fu** up! And with no rumble sometimes you dont know if your getting shot at

    boys and girls There is no need to cry over the control being delayed or expensive in aus. Serious we're australian and everyone know's how relaxed and also cunning we are. There are also ways to get games over here to the aus even if it is banned. So your milk isn't spilt its just a matter of how much you want it. If i could leave a suggestion for all the aussie people like myself a little bit cheesed off that so many good if not great potential games get banned here try to order from hong kong. It works there are dual shock 3's for $65.04 AUD well $59.99 USD its for a japanese version but all you do is plug and play it's easy. Just look up yesasia on any search engine and you shall have results. Also PS3's are multi region so you can play maybe a banned game or two if you really care that much. But check it out if you want to save some dosh (money) enjoy!!!

    my thoughts exactly ichtus

    PAL gamers seem to get the leftovers of what NTSC gamers get. we get all the games delayed for example we are still waiting on super smash bros brawl, and it has no set date on release here, we sometimes dont even get games NTSC gamers do, we pay more for most games, and here in Australia we have a lot of games banned since we dont have the R18+ rating for games

    i currently dont have a ps3, but probably plan to get one soon, so i wont be able to fully tell the difference between controllers

    But still - I pay those double sized prices and I prefer originals. But, NTSC gamers are getting exactly the same, but much cheaper.

    This sucks.

    why do PAL gamers must pay a whole lot extra? it isnt very much difference between them except the regions. no wonder so many people get illegal modification chips for their consoles because in the long run, they save money

    stormtrooper88, there are just to many cases like this one:

    In US something is released with price tag 30USD. In Latvia (my country in Europe, bordering with Russia) the price often is the same in terms of digits, but not the value. So, often we here in Latvia have this random item with price tag 30LVL (Latvian Lats), which is 67.8USD (1 USD = 0.4425 LVL)

    So, people in Latvia often have to pay twice the price, set in US, if they are not ordering the goods from US or elsewhere.

    let me tell u this i live in the US and im not even willing to spend what they charge here for it. and quite frankly i dont need it. i like the controllers as they are since they're practically weightless and ive heard that the rumble addon makes them quite heavier. plus i havent really missed the vibrate function from that of the PS2.

    Sony hates Europe and Australia, and non-america in general. In US the goodies are almost allways released with lower price tag. But the non-americans and non-japanese people are getting gangbanged with every release from Sony - game or peripheral, whatever - the same gangbanging politics.

    You can order Dualshock 3's online easily enough.

    Picked mine up for about $65AU including shipping from the below site.

    Sony just likes ripping off aussies and zealanders.

    I bought a white DS3 for NZ$70 about 2 months ago. It amazes me that private individuals importing these things in relatively small quantities are able to sell them for so much less than what Sony is asking us to pay.

    Moral of the story: check those online auction sites, people!

    Whats the difference? Dual Shock 2 and 3 kinda arethe asme except this rumble thing. I'm sticking with the xbox 360 controller. More roomy with your fingers than the PS3 controller which is to cramp.

It wouldn't cost more than 10-15 to ship each individually, and because they ship in bulk it costs even less.

    So, it's criminal.

    Quoted for truth. It's f-ing BS. So it's our problem that they made a blunder on strategy to make something so next-gen it wasn't even used. Bl**dy SixAxis. I've got two of them, and none had ever been used for motion sensing. And now we can't trade in our SixAxis remotes because production has been discontinued and Sony has practically overnight made them worth $0. Great...thanks Sony. Looks like my MGS4 is gonna cost me $210 instead.

    I am pretty sure that all controllers in the 3rd Gen release of the PS3 would be changed to the Dualshock 3.

    Wow... twice as much as what it costs in the U.S.! That's harsh!

    But, I can say that I didn't realize what I was missing until I got mine. It just seems natural to have the rumble in games.

    O wow the "all new" Dualshock 3. A Dualshock 2 with some irellevant motion controls inside. Its a nice touch sony is still bundling the sixaxis in Aus and UK to clear remaining stock.

    Well at least the system isnt completely gimped now, Sixaxis is complete crap, they feel light and cheap. Im so glad sony was eventually able to break the laws of engineering and physics to do what "couldnt be done" and put rumble in a sixaxis. Something that should of been there at the start, nice work marketing it like jesus's second coming

    $100? you can get one of these sexy things for $80.

    ?? Yea its expensive but am i really the only one whom expected it to cost around a $100 here ? The Sixaxis is $80 and 360 controllers are around $70 - $80 i believe ... Wiimote+Nuncuck is $100 ... Yea were getting ripped off compared to the US but you can always import and besides just be glad SONY made PS3 region free so you can easily import stuff ...

    And they said it couldn't be done because of motion sensors. It would have been awesome if these were out when I bought my PS3. I already have 4 controllers. Thanks much Sony.
