Raven Squad infiltrates 360, PC

SouthPeak enlists to distribute Hungary-based Atomic Motion's RTS-FPS hybrid on Microsoft platforms this fall.

Formerly a PC stalwart, real-time strategy games are becoming less of an oddity on consoles, particularly in light of Command & Conquer and Halo Wars heading to the Xbox 360. The genre is getting a little more crowded on Microsoft's platform, as SouthPeak Games today announced it would be distributing Budapest, Hungary-based Atomic Motion's RTS-first-person shooter mash-up Raven Squad: Operation Hidden Dagger on the Xbox 360 as well as Windows PCs. Evolved Games is set to publish the title.

Scaling down the full-nation approach to RTS gameplay, Raven Squad drops two mercenary squads consisting of eight members in total in the middle of a conflict in the Amazon. While exact gameplay details have yet to be revealed, SouthPeak noted that players will be able to seamlessly transition between the RTS and FPS approaches to accomplishing missions.

SouthPeak expects to unveil more details on Raven Squad via its official Web site as the game's fall release window approaches.

I like the fact that MS are pushing and nuturing PC/360 X Platform gaming, games like this are simply the beginning of the MS roadmap whereby both platforms become very close, enabling Devs to simply make a game for PC and making minor changes (graphics, controls, etc) then simply transfering it to the 360 and Visa-Versa, therefore saving Devs alot of Time & MONEY, as well as allowing them more Dev time to ensure a great product when released, and not a rushed one. A very smart business move, why target just one audience (eg 360) when you can target 2 (360 & PC) therfore targeting the largest gaming audience on the planet with a game that has only been developed for 1 base platform 'Vista'.

The key to any great game is simply for devs to put TLC into thier products and not to RUSH them for release. This game looks quite good and refreshing, am very intruiged.

Considering how much Two Worlds sucked this or any game from SouthPeak Interactive will always be a pile of crap.

Hopefully they will make this a good one. Two Worlds needed a lot more work on it when they released it. If they take their time with this one then it should be good.

(sad) .... i se that there is a massive attack of low qualety games comming .... and everyone ses that they are good, now probebly they are ... but this game,i mean the "hood" is so bad designed ... the animation ***** whoooooooo ........ ,i realy can't promise somthing about this,or space siege or what ever ... the storyline, come on iven a kid of 6 year can get that idea (syborg whaaaaaaaa ***************** ) , jsut say the throy , don't lie, i think this games are kine of a "beta" to the top gmaes that we do'nt evin know the name of....and will come out in mabe 2011 or 2010 - 2012 ... now we need to give real commetns and no lie comments to have points

Sounds ambitious. How much compromise will be made to mix FPS & RTS though? It would be cool if you could play CnC style then jump into a character and run round BF2 style. Doubt it'll be a good FPS or a good RTS but its a genre that could be brilliant if done well.

If you think FPRTS is something new: Battlezone - as in Activision's '98 remake, which got a 9.4 here - wants a word with you. It had the concept down back in 1998...

Yeah, FPS-RTS hybrids are going to be huge in the near future. I always thought the STALKER series could benefit greatly from something as simple as a few squad commands and followers.

Now with games using humongous maps such as Supreme Commander and the Battlefield series, I could see this style take on a whole new dimension of gameplay.

You know, after playing Warcraft II and Goldeneye back in the day, I thought it would be an awesome idea to merge the genre's together... I with now that I had gotten a patent.

Seriously though the 360 is now over flowing in RTS games. Infact the 360 is pretty much overflowing with all the genres...
However you can never have enough can you

This game sounds fun. RTS, strategy and MMO's are becoming more apparent on the 360 and are getting some pretty damn good transitions if I do say so myself. I can't wait for Halo Wars though, that game looks friggin amazing

It really does work to MS's advantage that the XNA tools allow for easy transition between PC and 360. It's one of the huge advantages that MS has being a software company.
