Dead Rising on US, EU Wiis this winter

The week after Capcom confirmed its Japanese release, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is given a North American and European release window.

Buried in the information overload that was last week's E3 Media & Business Summit was the announcement that Dead Rising is coming to the Wii. Leaked scans from Japanese game magazine Famitsu revealed that the popular Xbox 360 game was being ported to Nintendo's console. Capcom reps confirmed to GameSpot that Dead Rising: Zombie no Ikenie was indeed in the works, but wouldn't comment on any release plans outside Japan.

Today, though, Capcom formally announced Dead Rising will arrive on North American and European Wiis this winter. Called Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, the game will utilize the Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition engine. Screenshots show it has a similar setting as the Xbox 360 version, albeit with lower-quality graphics and fewer zombie opponents.

Like its 360 sibling, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop follows Frank West, a photojournalist whose craving for a scoop lands him in a small Colorado town overrun by the walking dead. After being dropped off by a helicopter, he finds himself trapped in Dawn of the Dead-esque shopping mall jam-packed with brain-hungry zombies shuffling around the grounds. Using a variety of items to defend himself--including everyday objects plucked from store shelves--West must fulfill his mission by snapping exclusive, up-close photos of his undead foes.

more moey for capcom and nintendo for an inferior game, yay!! but in all hinestly, i will pick up dead rising for the wii, if nothing moire to show my support for dead rising, and it seems like this game is much more structured, something hopefully the devs of dead rising 2 might keep in mind when making it...

I wonder how they'll handle the fact that it was developed for the 360, a console that has much higher powered hardware than the Wii. Will they just lower the graphical quality of everything until it works?

    I'm really curious.

I mean I could understand DR on the PS3 but they are majorly down grading the game to put it on the Wii? Does anyone get that? It's like taking gore out of Gears of War, yeah it's the same title but it loses one of it's key mechanics. Removing the masses of zombie from dead rising? It's basically a different and lower quality title now. good job money suckers."

OMG! THE GAME WON'T BE IN HD! A few less zombies!!!

The screen shot seems to have plenty, and RE4 had plenty, so...tough **** kids.

What's really awesome is, how you're all crying about the Wii getting one of your *precious* games. Oh, and anonther hardcore game.

    Tough.

No, it was a brilliant idea, that was met with unanimous praise and sold like mad for a game that had already sold like mad.

Your post is just sour grapes. Soon all of the first wave of development will be on the Wii, just as the sales charts are now beginning to be DOMINATED by Wii games.

Making Dead Rising for the Wii is like making Call of Duty 4 as a downloadable cellphone game. They're trying to sell the name, not the game.

So you guys don't think that because Capcom is able to work on a Wii port of RE4 and at the same time work on RE5 they wont be able to do the same here?

So they didn't announce it on E3, so what? Next gen games take alot longer time to make than ports. For all we know they're in production in the game but can't give an exact release date!

How about we get Dead Rising 2 out for the 360? That would be nice to play and it will look so much better. It's nice having a system that can put 300 zombies on the screen at once and not bog down. Looks like there are 12 in that shot. Seems like they are dropping the zombie count and in doing so changing the core of the game to get a quick buck on the Wii.

Not too excited about this to be honest. Not because it is on the Wii but because it is Dead Rising it's self. That game was a missed chance. It probably sounded good on paper but in the final product it was partial disaster. Poor controls, poor save features, a crappy time limit on when the story should be finished instead of a no limit free roam styled gameplay. Nah, if they make a sequel it better sort all that is wrong with the original.

Was actually hoping more for a straight port, but didn't expect the Wii could handle it. Never know, might turn out to be a great game, but I'll wait for some word-of-mouth before I throw money at what looks to be a lesser version of a game I already have. Might give it a shot if they make some better picture taking mechanics, kinda tough to shoot good pics on the 360.

@AlucardsFate: Doesn't look like many at all after the original, and why wouldn't you try to fight them all? Frank West is a beast with a baseball bat or sledgehammer. Hell, he's even pretty good at beating stuff with manequins and cash registers. =D

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Lets port a game to Wii with less zombies. That was the whole point of the game. The amount of zombies on one screen. Without that feature this isn't a Dead Rising game, it's Capcom trying to capitalize off of all those old farts playing bowling. Oh, that's right, old people bowling won't buy this game. Port the game to ps3 like Bioshock. Get real Capcom. Seriously disappointed in Capcom. Another wiitarded moment brought to you by Nintendo."

Angry much that an once Exclusive Xbox 360 Game is no longer an exclusive? I don't get why people get so mad when a game gets ported over to another system. Do you not want your game developers to make all the money they can, so they can still make games with said money and keep games coming out? Obviouslly not.

i proberbly wont buy this, but i bet it would run better on the Wii than PS3 from the Abysmal port of Lost Planet...it managed worse graphics than 360 and still couldnt run it as smoothly...so from the latest capcom game on PS3 id say the wii has got a chance...still wont buy it though...damn capcom...

DiabloRaul has the best attitude about this. He's just happy for us Wii owning folks that we can experience a good game. I'd give you a cookie if I could. As far as stillerize's "this isn't a Dead Rising game" comment...

I could swear it's titled Dead Rising....a game about being in a Colorado Mall filled with Zombies? (Hey I've lived in CO all my life!) Yup...certainly looks like a Dead Rising game...

It still looks like a good amount of zombies are on the screen, not as many but still more then one man can handle alone. (You can't fight them all at once anyway...can you?)

Why not use the Resi4 engine to produce a version of Res5 on the Wii?

Instead we get a game that does less zombies than Hunter on the XBox - great! I shall probably get it but it won't be the 100's zombies to slay fest that it is on 360

I guess they are responding to the demand of people without HDTV who want to play this game since most people who own a wii own standard defs. I actually bought my HDTV so I could read the font for the XBOX 360 game. Not worth it for the game alone but I'm glad I have my HDTV. I think for the Wii crowd they would need change things within the game like preventing respawning zombies and make it easier to save. I

Who said that Galaxy is the best it can do? We are too early in this generation to tell exactly what the full potential of any of the 3 consoles is. "Stupid Waggle Controls you say?" Motion control is awesome when correctly used. Ever been to a large scale Wii Party? Play Wii Sports with like 6-14 other people...you have to pass Wiimotes around...but it's a blast. "Everyone, just get Dead Rising on the 360. The Wii version won't even be close to the real thing."

Oh yeah...your assuming everyone has a 360. I don't. Are you telling me to buy one? Don't you dare tell me how to spend my money. I don't have so much of it.

  • mjc0961

    Posted Jul 22, 2008 5:13 am PT

"Screenshots show it has a similar setting as the Xbox 360 version, albeit with lower-quality graphics and fewer zombie opponents."

And that's why I can't believe they're actually putting it on the Wii in the first place. We all knew they'd have to drop the graphics quality considerably and still have to reduce the number of zombies on screen at once to make it run. I can live with the graphics being worse than the 360 version, but less zombies = less fun. Then again, with stupid waggle controls, you probably want less zombies on screen anyway so you don't get sore killing them all.

Everyone, just get Dead Rising on the 360. The Wii version won't even be close to the real thing.

"Clearly some of the blame lies with Capcom. I think Super Mario Galaxy has so far set the bar for what the Wii is capable of in terms of visuals, and this certainly doesn't come anywhere close to that bar."
No, it's not Capcom's fault Nintendo made a weak console. You try putting as many zombies as there are in Dead Rising with Super Mario Galaxy quality graphics and watch the Wii version slow down to a crawl, if it can even run at all.
