Guitar Hero World Tour dated down under

Four-piece Guitar Hero game to ship on November 12 in Australia; four new tracks announced, including one from Aussies The Living End.

Activision Blizzard's Guitar Hero franchise has been a boon for the megapublisher, with its yearly iterations selling millions and turning the rhythm game into a bona fide cultural phenomenon. The next instalment in the series--Guitar Hero World Tour--notches the volume up to 11 by going down the Rock Band route and including guitars, drums, and vocals into the package. And while the publisher hasn't detailed when the game is set for release for the rest of the world, it has confirmed that Australians will get the full package on November 12, 2008.

The November 12 Australian release date was revealed at an Activision press event being held in New Zealand, with publisher reps saying confirmation on other global release dates would be made soon. Four new tracks were also unveiled, including one from Aussie rockabilly act The Living End, whose song Prisoner of Society will appear in World Tour. The other new songs are "La Bamba" by Los Lobos, "Scream Aim Fire" by Bullet for My Valentine, and "Our Truth" by Lacuna Coil.

Australians haven't had much luck when it comes to band rhythm games, with World Tour's main rival--Harmonix's Rock Band--still not available down under despite being released in the US last year. Rumours have been swirling about an impending release for both Rock Band and Rock Band 2, but the release date confirmation for World Tour may mean Activision's game will beat both Rock Bands into this country.

Better songs from Lacuna Coil please, last song was way too easy a caveman could do it, and Our Truth is pretty easy too, they have better ones.

Harmonix and E.A only care about their U.S market. And to be honest they treat the rest of the world like dirt.

I Really like it that a developer is finally Acknowledging our continent by saying our release date first instead of a few weeks after. Like the article said, the Guitar Hero Franchise is BILLIONS of times more reliable than Rock Band will ever be in Australia. I mean A YEAR, COME ON.

Sword-Hunter277: You need the Rock Band 1 Disk to do the transfer of songs.

Oh wait, we don't have Rock Band 1 Here.

Even though gamestop refuses to use the "unconfirmed" resources, I'm pretty sure that the release date in the US is end of october and it will be priced at $190.

I hope all of you Australians are aware that you will be able to purchase most (if not all) of the songs in Rock Band 1 for under 5 dollars.

It was stated by Harmonix themselves. Don't sell yourself just to be disappointed by Guitar Hero and their hyped-up features

Great news....much prefer the GH World Tour instruments. But will most likely only buy the Rockband games, eventually......agree that Rockband 1 should be bonus with purchase of Rockband 2. Also the Rockband instruments WITHOUT the game will retail for just under $300! Go Guitar Hero.

  • Sellwin

    Posted Sep 1, 2008 6:58 pm PT

If Rock Band's distributors want the game to even put a dent in Guitar Hero's sales (let alone compete) in Australia, they need to up their game big time. Release Rock Band 2 ASAP, with a bonus disc containing all the tracks from the original Rock Band. Then they might have a chance, otherwise kiss the Aussie market share goodbye.

wow, its hard to believe that Guitar Hero World Tour will beat Rock Band to our shores. At least Activision isn't giving us a big, "screw you" like those folks at Rock Band are!
