TGS 2008: Some More Heroes Wii-bound next year

[UPDATE]: Marvelous Entertainment preps Desperate Struggle, followup to Suda-51's cult hit No More Heroes; European and North American publishers confirmed.

A week before No More Heroes went on sale in North America earlier this year, Grasshopper Manufacture CEO Goichi Suda told GameSpot he was already eager to jump into a sequel. It appears as if the self-styled punk game developer is going to get his wish, as a teaser trailer for No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle has been spotted on a number of sites on this, the first day of the 2008 Tokyo Game Show.

The trailer shows the original game's protagonist Travis Touchdown sporting a partially obscured T-shirt that appears to read "Travis strikes again." In the brief clip, Travis flashes out his beam katana, yells "I'll be back," and jumps into battle with an outlandishly armed female adversary. The trailer ends with the shorthand "NMH 2" giving way to a logo for No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle.

If a series of flags shown at the outset of the trailer is anything to go by, Grasshopper will again be developing the game while Marvelous Entertainment will handle publishing duties, at least in Japan. Rising Star Games and Ubisoft published the original game in Europe and North America, respectively.

The teaser trailer gave no indication as to the platform(s) on which Desperate Struggle will be released. Regardless, the game won't be able to command Suda's undivided attention. The auteur (often known by his nickname, SUDA-51), is also working on a collaborative project with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami for Electronic Arts. That project is being developed using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3, and is set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii.

[UPDATE]: During Marvelous Entertainment's TGS International Press Event today, the company offered a few more details about Desperate Struggle. The game is only being developed for the Wii, is set for release next year, and is being made by the original No More Heroes creative team. International publishing has also already been arranged, as Rising Star will again handle the European release, while Marvelous will copublish the title in North America through a deal with Xseed Games.

I can't wait to own the second one. The first was very humorous and fun to play. Plus, it was just an overall damn good game. I'm sure this will be even better. Hopefully this is a sign of the Wii doing even bigger things in '09.

Motion Plus would be a bad idea guys. The reason NMH was good was because of the lack of motion. The only time you really, really swung your arms around was either doing a finishing move or the part time jobs. Motion Plus would seriously kill the game with the amount of action that goes on in the game.

NMH was honestly the best Wii game. They do need to fix the game a lot though. Boss fights were boring (though each boss was cool in their own way), needed more part time jobs...they were surprisingly fun, and the hub needs a bit of improvements. Needed to be a bit more exciting (like surprise challenges from the "low ranked assassins" or something)

Hmm. It's a shame Ubisoft didn't want to publish the second one. Doesn't matter, though, 'cause we're still getting it! Can't wait!

The first game was cool and a pleasant(and non typical)surprise for Wii owners. this one, though, now has something to live up to and hopefully old Suda can pull it out of the bag. No doubt he'll have a few more odd ideas to fit in this time as well-after all wasn't he responsible for the madness of PS2's Killer7? High hopes again after a fine first outing for Mr Touchdown.

No More Heroes has to be one of the coolest if not the coolest game that I've played for the Nintendo Wii. Its indeed very good news to know that they are working on a sequel, but I just find it so unfair that most of all of these conventions end up in Japan.

Yes! I've been waiting for this. Hopefully that multi-platform game Suda is working on will help give him a higher profile. This could help boost NMHS sales!

@ohioyankee [sarcasm]Yes let's tell the creative guy to stop creating! Let's stay in our bubble of games that are exactly the same! [/sarcasm]

Maybe it's not that people don't like his games...maybe they aren't opened minded enough to try them....a sad fact indeed. Because his games are really good.

it will be as big of a failure as the original. take the hint Suda, not enough people like your games for you to warrant making more.
